So sad that he lost his seat. Really liked him.

Oh goodness, that's a priceless mistake to make😂

Sad to lose Cleggy, but so glad that Cable got his seat back. Parliament needs someone who can add up!

Oblomov17 · 09/06/2017 07:28

I also think this is quite sad. He's not that bad. Compared to the others!! TM? Corbyn? Yuk.

Enidblyton1 · 09/06/2017 07:33

Such a shame - one of the best MPs

MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 09/06/2017 08:12

I like Nick Clegg. Reasonable, intelligent, decent. He'll be missed.

Mimbletora · 09/06/2017 08:24

Also gutted he is out. I think he paid the price for the coalition and tuition fees, and how much the Lib Dems held back the Torys was underappreciated. Seems mad he kept his seat two years ago but lost it now.

Agree it looks like voting for policy rather than person

Montsti · 09/06/2017 08:24

I'm not a Lib Dem supporter but he seems like a nice guy (unfortunately that counts for nothing in politics)...really sad to see him lose his seat...ironic that it's the cause he championed that screwed him over😢.

NotACleverName · 09/06/2017 08:26

Oh well. He lost his spine years ago.

Sandsnake · 09/06/2017 08:27

Yes, very sad. He took it well though. His voice of intelligence and reason will be missed in the sea of sensationalist memes and headlines that is politics at present.

I think he was ousted due to Labour's (in my opinion) ill-conceived but ultimately vote-grabbing pledge on tuition fees. As a highly intelligent man I'm sure that the irony will not be lost on him.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 09/06/2017 08:28

I always felt he was put in an impossible position, in a coalition government he was never going to be able to make most of his manifesto pledges a reality, and was unfairly judged for that. I hope he comes back into politics and stands in future as I think he seems like a really decent person, and there are worryingly few of those in politics.

ssd · 09/06/2017 08:31

I love Nick Clegg, he talks so much sense. Am gutted for him. We've lost a really brilliant politician there...for the meanwhile.

TempsPerdu · 09/06/2017 08:32

Also very sad about Nick - hope he doesn't give up on politics completely. Seems he suffered from the same 'youth surge' that helped Labour in many other university seats - a different seat and he probably would have clung on. Good to see Vince Cable back though, and to see Norman Lamb hang on to his seat.

Mothervulva · 09/06/2017 08:35

I genuinely don't get this "Lib Dems lied about tuition fees" thing. They didn't win the fucking election, so of course they weren't going to get to deliver their entire manifesto. They did save us from undiluted Tory rule though - the only things that government did that i liked were Lib Dem in origin

This.

Vango · 09/06/2017 08:36

His mistake was to enter into a coalition government. I lost respect for him and wouldn't trust him after that. He's got to face the consequences, however long in coming.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 09/06/2017 08:36

I really like him too. One of the good guys. His wisdom will be greatly missed.

Wormulonian · 09/06/2017 08:39

He deserves it. The LD's should never have gone into coalition with the Tories they should have looked to work with the other parties. Look at the things they voted for in coalition that have hugely damaged this country. His "leadership" by going into coalition with the Tories has decimated the vote for the LD's. Power hungry. "A nice man" - in what way?

AllThePrettySeahorses · 09/06/2017 08:42

It's such a shame. We have so few great politicians and we couldn't afford to lose him. In fact, I can't think of any decent politician left now apart from Cable - but at 74, how long will he stay?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 09/06/2017 08:42

I don't think he will be back.

They were saying last night he was very likely to stand down at the next election. He stood again due to it being a snap election.

caramelgirl · 09/06/2017 08:53

Really like Nick Clegg. One of the few grown ups in politics.
I think he acted for what he believed to be best for the country, not Lib Dems or himself. And he was an easy fall guy.
I am sure he will have an easier life now (unless he did take on Brexit trade negotiations as PP suggested).
Farron undermined him when in coalition.

Mothervulva · 09/06/2017 08:54

I doubt he'll be back. He'll be snapped up somewhere quick enough a la David Milliband.

TheDowagerCuntess · 09/06/2017 08:54

Politics is brutal. Utterly brutal.

And the collateral damage is that fewer and fewer good people go into it.

Which means we end up being governed by half wits and despots.

Mothervulva · 09/06/2017 08:57

I agree Cuntess

80sMum · 09/06/2017 09:03

I really like and respect Nick Clegg; I'm very sad that he lost his seat. Sad

specialsubject · 09/06/2017 09:09

Vince cable, the man who gave the post office away cheap and city investors made a fortune.

How mn has changed since yesterday.

HS2whattodo · 09/06/2017 09:12

Corbyn played a blinder with his scrapping tuition fees pledge. Hoovered up the student vote and got young people out to vote. Clegg, decent as he is, was a casualty of this.

ChestnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 09/06/2017 09:13

I like Nick Clegg and thought he was a decent leader. He was too naive and made a play for power at the wrong time with the wrong people. He won't come back from that.
