Former head of mi6 says Corbyn is a danger to the nation and wouldn't pass security vetting

Because of his terrorist links. That's pretty strong stuff! In today's telegraph. Behind a paywall though but the first few paragraphs are visible.

They're all crapping themselves that he's done so well, the papers today are off the scale scaremongering.

I'm not a Corbyn fan (though am voting Labour to try to keep my excellent MP) but I am glad he's caused a shake-up and this has not gone how May planned it. She'll have to resign herself if there's a hung parliament.

JigglyTuff · 08/06/2017 10:25

The people who have trashed this country are the Tories who have raped and pillaged it for the good of their friends and big business. I despair at people voting for them unless they are the super-rich. It's so very stupid.

iamEarthymama · 08/06/2017 10:25

Scraping the barrel now.

pinkpanda101 · 08/06/2017 10:26

And besides which, Corbin isn't applying to join GCHQ, MI5 or MI6. Loads of perfectly ordinary people wouldn't clear their security vetting, even without having ever talked to terrorists! I really struggled to get clearance for applying to the forces for officer training, because one of my parents wasn't born in Britain. As someone's pointed out, Corbin is already a Privy Councillor so he can't be that dangerous!

scottishdiem · 08/06/2017 10:27

He is on the Privy Council. Suspect the vetting for that is not dissimilar. Seeing as you have to stand with the Queen and all.

Dont know which is worse. Propaganda in propaganda outlets or idiots who believe propaganda.

TheWitchAndTrevor · 08/06/2017 10:31

Well I was reading something yesterday, that would put this into to perspective.

Basically mi6 had been using 3 of the recent terrorist atrackers for years, which is why they could move around so easily. They had restrictions lifted on them and were allowed/encouraged to go fight in Libya.

This was all done with the blessing of the government.

So if Labour are to get in, the exposer of what mi6 and the Tories have been up to, would be massive.

Hence maybe why mi6 are scare mongering in the papers........

TheWitchAndTrevor · 08/06/2017 10:34

I shall just rewrite my first paragraph again.

Well I was reading something yesterday, that if true would put this into to perspective

Xenophile · 08/06/2017 10:34

It's interesting that someone who was in his job doesn't understand what vetting actually is.

It's also pretty fucking funny that some people are following lies.

And I say this as someone who has been vetted repeatedly and also vetted other people so therefore a person who does know what vetting entails.

Corbyn will have been vetted, as pp has said, he meets with the bloody Queen, do you really think they let any old body do that?

NeoNeoClassical · 08/06/2017 10:35

link?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/06/2017 10:36

I was in the Socialist Workers at Uni. I doubt I'd pass any kind of vetting. Doesn't mean that at 52 I'm still plotting to bring down the state.

Sittinonthefloor · 08/06/2017 10:36

That maybe true pink, but does it mean what he says is untrue? Or are you saying that links with particular organisations / past comments are important? In which case you are surely saying that JCs links are important, and we shouldn't trust what he says either.

I do remember there being a lot of discussion about his suitability to join the privy council - but as the leader of the opposition is always a member there wasn't anyway rond it. Nothing to do with vetting.

And no, he's not applying to join mi6 - but it would be nice to think that a potential pm was trustworthy and loyal enough to his country to pass their scrutiny if he wanted!

I have never seen such biased reporting as in this election. It is appalling the amount of venom that has been aimed at Jeremy Corbyn. It is character assassination.

QuiteLikely5 really? Most people want a Corbyn gone? He is incredibly popular amongst Labour voters, young people and those normally disinterested in politics. I think lots of people have recognised him as a truly principled, decent man and a good leader regardless of what the Media would have us believe.

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/jeremy-corbyns-rallies-are-biggest-since-churchills-claims-michael-crick-a3559696.html

I have been disgusted by Labour MPs who have refused to get behind him and delighted that people have got behind him despite the best efforts of Tony Blair etc.

Leaderwithsoul · 08/06/2017 10:37

Lies

KatherinaMinola · 08/06/2017 10:38

And besides which, Corbin isn't applying to join GCHQ, MI5 or MI6. Loads of perfectly ordinary people wouldn't clear their security vetting, even without having ever talked to terrorists! I really struggled to get clearance for applying to the forces for officer training, because one of my parents wasn't born in Britain.

Yes. To clarify, we are not talking about JC not passing vetting to be an MP or even PM. We are talking about the internal security vetting standards of MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.

Like the PP, I wouldn't pass that vetting either, due to foreign family links. I know plenty of other people who wouldn't pass it due to country of birth, very minor criminal records, membership of campaign groups, etc. It does not mean that they pose any kind of threat whatsoever, to anyone. Developed Vetting for these agencies is very rigorous indeed (and discriminatory towards many people for no fault of their own).

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 08/06/2017 10:39

O my god they really are getting fucking desperate now aren't they??

As a member of the Privy Council, he has already been vetted, he stands next to the Queen ffs.

And not wanting to blow people up, and going to peace talks instead of bombing the shit out of people makes him a terrorist sympathiser, does it??

Ffs.

This just proves my point that people will believe whatever they want if it fits in with their world view, and ignore anything that doesn't.

Use your brains people, its fucking election day and TM and her lot (Telegraph owner is not exactly a lefty, is he?) are shitting themselves.
They will pull anything out of their arses at this point.

TheWitchAndTrevor · 08/06/2017 10:39

neo I shall try and find the links I read, although i have not verify the sources, so not sure if they are just conspiracy theories.........

I read them with a pinch of salt but given what has been written in the telegraph today. If made me wonder if there is some truth in it.

Leaderwithsoul · 08/06/2017 10:39

Such articles should not be allowed.

JiminnyCricket · 08/06/2017 10:39

Brilliant Grin

He'll be eating disabled kittens for breakfast and soley responsible for every terrorist attack since 1066 by the end of the day Grin

The tories have an actual ex IRA member as an MP and have been selling weapons to terrorists for 10 years, but sure, let's talk about how having peace talks with people makes us definately a terrorist sympathiser Hmm

BertrandRussell · 08/06/2017 10:40

He's a Privy Councillor, ffs!

Sittinonthefloor · 08/06/2017 10:40

Xeno- the queen has to meet loads of people who wouldn't get clearance for other things - mcguiness? The clearance for meeting her is to do with her security, not whether the person has dodgy mates.

This link seems apt here

tuckered.co.uk/2017/06/07/jeremy-corbyn-made-jam-with-isis/

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 08/06/2017 10:41

And if he is talking about vetting for the security services, litereally no one I know would get in, due to many reasons, none of which involve terrorism.

And I bet that applies to a lot of people here on MN.

Ditto tons of politicians.

So fucking what?

KatherinaMinola · 08/06/2017 10:41

Of course there is truth in the article.

"Wouldn't pass security vetting" (for a job at MI5 etc) is probably a fact. "Danger to the nation" is a loony opinion.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 08/06/2017 10:41

The tories have an actual ex IRA member as an MP and have been selling weapons to terrorists for 10 years
