to wonder why MN is so let wing

That's it really; MN seems to be overwhelmingly Labour leaning and that's not obviously indicative of the country as a whole, and I'm under the impression that MN covers a very wide social/ economic spectrum so you'd think it would be more representative of the electorate a s a whole
Rational non insulting reasons would be good

I don't think it is - I think people who aren't left wing tend to keep quiet on political issues more so than you think.

SasBel · 07/06/2017 13:09

It is not! I am a lib dem supporter, lots of tory and a few upkip on here. Not seen much by the greens.
Plenty of SNP supporters on Scotsnet too.

I'm not sure as it does cover a wide social/economic spectrum.

A lot of the people here (not all by any means) are middle class.

StinkPickle · 07/06/2017 13:10

I often think the same. But then I think because anyone with right leaning political views gets absolutely savaged on here we tend to not join in those sorts of threads.

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 13:10

impossible you may be right. Tory voters are described as basically evil on here so lots of people may decide they don't want to be insulted

I don't think it is either. I've seen many a benefit bashing thread on here.

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2017 13:10

I think everyone latches onto the thread titles that stir them up. I've just been looking at exactly the same threads as you, but I could only see True Blue right wing scaremongering, whereas you can only see JC has come to save us all.

I don't think it is at all.

Just as I don't think the BBC has a left bias.

We all see what we want to see.

The vast majority of the country seems to veer to the right, I really don't get why people complain when not everything is right wing.

I don't like the Daily Mail, but I don't wonder why everyone on it is a right winger, I just accept that it represents views I don't agree with.

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 13:11

You see, there's a case in point by smeaton

onlyconnect · 07/06/2017 13:12

I think in life generally, on average, Tory voters are quieter about their views. I live in a Tory constituency for example, but have seen only Labour and LibDem posters on display. No Tory ones at all!

jensterr · 07/06/2017 13:13

I also think Tories tend to keep quite because of how nasty and irrational left wingers can be (example up thread). I do think there are more people from urban areas here than the countryside where Tory voters are more concentrated.

impossibledreams · 07/06/2017 13:13

...and as if on cue, Smeaton demonstrates my point. No one is going to put their hand up when the response is to be called a 'c**t'

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/06/2017 13:14

That's not to say all Cuntservative voters are only looking out for themselves. Voting in the Cunts because that bunch of cunts serve their purposes and they're too stupid or selfish to see the damage the Cunts have done to the wider society.

I think this level of "debate" is probably why Tory supporters are keeping quiet.

RandomDent · 07/06/2017 13:14

Because Left is right. :o

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 13:14

And yy to the amounts of benefit bashing on here.

And on a thread I am on earlier, accusing left wngers of being terrorist sympathisers and " screeching hand wringing liberals". When the rest of us were trying to have a reasoned debate. (then having the cheek to accuse the left of being "nasty" Hmm)

There is plenty of right-wingedness on here, but I think what you want is for "lefties" r=to not argue or debate really, just shut up and put up.

jensterr · 07/06/2017 13:14

Also Tory voters tend to be more reserved and don't feel the need to force their opinion down other people's throats.

OutsSelf · 07/06/2017 13:14

I haven't found MN to be particularly left wing.

But it might have something to do with the high intelligence of Mnetters Grin

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 07/06/2017 13:14

I don't think it is - I think people who aren't left wing tend to keep quiet on political issues more so than you think

Am inclined to believe this. Lots of 'shy' Tories on here who just keep their head down and vote Conservative when the time comes. Most have worked out some time ago that it is an exercise in futility to try and have a reasonable discussion about politics without being called evil/brainwashed/racist/xenophobic/stupid/selfish etc.

TheNaze73 · 07/06/2017 13:15

A lot of Conservative voters are at work as well

MorrisZapp · 07/06/2017 13:15

I loathe Tory policy but calling people cunts is beyond the pale. Why would anyone risk that kind of abuse.

shinyredbus · 07/06/2017 13:15

another poster private messaged me that - that MN is left wing and that I shouldn't take most of the comments to heart (I started a thread a while back) I think most of the Tory voters are just quite afraid to voice their opinions for fear of being shot down by the large majority of labour support in here.

Stickerrocks · 07/06/2017 13:15

Massive Tory majority here, but the hedges are awash with a sea of blue. There's are a couple of solitary Labour posters and nothing at all for the others. Our conservative MP refuses to engage with the electorate by any means except pen & paper - no email address, Twitter account or FB, so perhaps the locals need reminding of who he is in case they tick the wrong box.

SovietKitsch · 07/06/2017 13:15

I don't think it is either. But the demographic is mostly mums with children who are still under 18, and within that demographic left leaning voters have a higher proportion compared to the over-60s for example. That would explain it to some degree.
