To not understand how any parent could not vote for Labour, our kids need the NHS don't they?

April2013 · 06/06/2017 12:51

I just don't get it, our children need the NHS, me and my children would probably all not be alive if it wasn't for the NHS, and if we had to pay for private I probably wouldn't even have children....and even if you have private healthcare we all need our police force. I just don't get it. How do people justify this to themselves?

OP posts:
ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 06/06/2017 12:54

Because they don't believe that Labour are the answer to the NHS's problems.

April2013 · 06/06/2017 12:55

So how will Theresa/Hunt fix the problems in the NHS?

OP posts:
LaContessaDiPlump · 06/06/2017 12:58

Seen this?

Greggers2017 · 06/06/2017 13:00

All this mess is labours fault for the overspend the last time they were power. They spent money that wasn't there.

Enidblyton1 · 06/06/2017 13:05

I've listened to a few people in the medical profession recently who were very convincing at explaining that it's not more money that the NHS needs - it's total reorganisation. Just blindly throwing money at it won't help. It will just get our country in more debt, which may have far worse implications for your children/grandchildren in the future.

Enidblyton1 · 06/06/2017 13:07

Sadly none of the parties have convinced me that they know how to improve the NHS - it's a complicated beast.

April2013 · 06/06/2017 13:07

So depressing...but conservative voters don't see it this way and I just can't understand if you have had your babies with the NHS, childhood vaccinations, various appointments etc etc how you could want that to not be available for your children when they are adults, unless you have a truly giant stash of money. Fully aware that the NHS isn't perfect but it has saved my life at least 3 times and that's without any major health problems or accidents, and meant my children have safely arrived - without the NHS my pretty standard birth complications could quite easily have resulted in my children not surviving. Why do we take his amazing service for granted?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 06/06/2017 13:07

My mum was a gp for 40 years and is entirely convinced that throwing more money at the current NHS structure is a waste of time.
Ps I see labour hq has now stooped to emotional blackmail - corbyn as man of integrity anyone?

Lindy2 · 06/06/2017 13:08

Because I don't trust Labour to actually deliver anything they say they will.

MissionItsPossible · 06/06/2017 13:08

We desperately need a new political central party in this country. The problem with going back and forth from Labour to Tory is that one party takes its time to implement all these new things which costs money, then the next party comes along and undoes all the work of the former party which also costs money, wastes time and leaves us wasting money with nothing to show for it. Or maybe a permanent hung parliament.

bruffian · 06/06/2017 13:09

Because the conservatives haven't pledged to get rid of the NHS afaik? Stop believing all the memes you see on Facebook.

Labour totally fucked the NHS in the first place.

MissionItsPossible · 06/06/2017 13:10

So depressing...but conservative voters don't see it this way and I just can't understand ...

You've been given responses as to people's reasonings but because it's not the view that you like you're not taking them on board. Like throughout the referendum and elections, actions and words like yours as though you have the superior view and anybody who disagrees just 'doesn't get it' and 'doesn't understand' is exactly the reasons why we are where we are now.

elevenclips · 06/06/2017 13:10

Yes we all want the NHS OP.

However, Labour and Corbyn are not going to be able to sort it out so I'm not voting for them. I can justify it very easily to myself because I think the only party that could raise money effectively for the NHS is the Lib Dems.

Not all people share your thoughts and your OP reads as though you are trying to guilt people into voting Labour. You can't. We will all use our votes as we see fit because that's democracy.

April2013 · 06/06/2017 13:12

But it's a no brainer that the NHS needs the cuts to stop, significant investment to start and to reorganise - this costs money too. Of course things have changed and it needs reorganisation to reflect that, but cuts clearly can't be the answer, investment surely is the answer isn't it?

Tissunnyupnorth · 06/06/2017 13:12

Agree with Enidblyton1.

I know many people in the medical profession, from Care assistants to Consultants. I have also just spent two years going through one of the largest Cancer care hospitals with my mum.

It's not all about money. Many nurses & consultants believe the NHS needs to be reformed from the grass roots up. They feel too many changes are forced through without thought. Throwing money at the NHS will not solve it's problems. It is naive to think this.

Roomster101 · 06/06/2017 13:14

I've listened to a few people in the medical profession recently who were very convincing at explaining that it's not more money that the NHS needs - it's total reorganisation.

Many who work in the NHS would say that some of the NHS problems (apart from the lack of funding) are due to the fact that it has been reorganised so many times over the years generally by people who have no idea what they are doing. It uses up a huge amount of staff time and resources not to mention redundancy payment and management consultancy costs.

BeyondDespairandRepair · 06/06/2017 13:14

My hospital went under - under Labour government - we were not given the MW we needed and there was a massive crisis at that time.

Now its much much better and really getting there in terms of improvements etc.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 06/06/2017 13:15

I'm a student nurse btw. Working in a hospital stuffed to the gills with pfi funded wards.

strawberrygate · 06/06/2017 13:16

Can someone please point me in the direction where conservatives have said they're getting rid of the NHS. seems to have been a pretty big news story that I've missed

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 06/06/2017 13:17

And I agree, the NHS needs a total rethink, not just more money.

It's not a straight choice between the NHS as it is and an American style system. There are other options, look at europe.

TheNaze73 · 06/06/2017 13:17

So depressing...but conservative voters don't see it this way and I just can't understand ...

Labour's shameless denial for getting us in the shit in the first place is probably the reason why. You need to accept not everyone will have the same views as you OP. It's a bit like a Conservative belittling Labour's argument with snowflake, unicorn glitter & magic money trees and then not understanding why not everyone agrees with them.

lougle · 06/06/2017 13:21

I work in the NHS and until a few months ago would have said that to save it you needed to vote labour. Then I heard JC and his manifesto. I realised that there is no realistic prospect of him meeting his manifesto pledges. At all. It's pie in the sky. He's spending the budget about three times over in every sentence. So, reluctantly, despite having a job in the NHS and a child with a disability and relying on tax credits and being afraid for our future, I cannot in good conscience bring myself to vote Labour. And I will not vote Liberal Democrat after the way they lied their way into Parliament at the last GE. At least the Conservatives did what they said they were going to do. Sad

coconuttella · 06/06/2017 13:25

April

The Tories are pledging £8bn extra for the NHS, not cuts.... yes, that may well not be enough, but all this talk of them getting rid of NHS is wrong.

I want my children to have an NHS... this means that responsible decisions on the country's spending so we don't spiral into a Greece like financial crisis which will be far more damaging to the NHS. I'm not especially enamoured with the Tories and they are far from perfect, but I trust them more than Corbyn with the national finances.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 06/06/2017 13:25

I have to use the NHS a lot.

Labour do not have the answers.

It needs a proper non political partisan talk about the way forward.

Won't happen though because people can't not point score.

x2boys · 06/06/2017 13:27

I worked for the NHS for years Labour started all this shit ,I was redeployed twice in 12 months due to cuts in 2005, The NHS cannot continue in its current form labour threw billions at it but mismanagement and incompetent advisors meant the money didn't improve patient care IMO the NHS has totally lost sight of patient care.
