To not understand how any parent could not vote for Labour, our kids need the NHS don't they?

I just don't get it, our children need the NHS, me and my children would probably all not be alive if it wasn't for the NHS, and if we had to pay for private I probably wouldn't even have children....and even if you have private healthcare we all need our police force. I just don't get it. How do people justify this to themselves?

I don't get the celebrity endorsements tbh. It comes accross as patronising.

Remember that Owen Jones headline in 2015?

Russel Brand has endorsed Labour and the Tories should be worried

That went well.

UrsulaPandress · 07/06/2017 08:19

I really don't care who other people are voting for.

Farmerswifeupnorth81 · 07/06/2017 08:20

Labour caused the problems in the first place with the over spending they did last time they were in power. Hope to god they don't get in again

Farmerswifeupnorth81 · 07/06/2017 08:21

Me neither ursula

ssd · 07/06/2017 08:25

celebrities can bugger off here too

MyOtherProfile · 07/06/2017 08:27

All this mess is labours fault for the overspend the last time they were power. They spent money that wasn't there.
I just can't understand people still trotting this out. At the end of the labour govt debt was 900 billion. At the end of the Tory govt it is 1.7 trillion. Who is spending money that isn't there?

TotallyConkers · 07/06/2017 08:28

It's bonkers isn't it to think that anyone would vote for a party because some famous person is. I also think it's just as barmy though on here where lots of posters want other voters to justify their vote and do so 'aggressively' or 'name call' and think they will get people to change their minds.

20nil · 07/06/2017 08:28

Cannot understand how people can make an argument out of anecdote. Just because you use the NHS or your mum was a GP or you know some nurses doesn't mean you have any real insight. Of course you have a view on your own situation, we all do, but to extrapolate that to a national overview is just odd. This applies to people on both sides of the fence on this issue and many others.

Depoliticising the NHS would not necessarily lead to its privatisation. I would prefer a Bank of England model. Likewise for education. Health and education affect us all and should not be used as political footballs. Genuine experts and not politicians should oversee them.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 07/06/2017 08:37

I also think it's just as barmy though on here where lots of posters want other voters to justify their vote

Thing that winds me up is posters who say

I am so fed up with people slagging off (insert party name here) that i am now going to vote for them

So a few randoms on the internet have managed to persuade you not to vote for your original party because they are rude...

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 07/06/2017 08:39

And those posters who say ' i have always voted labour, but...'

I am sure they are telling the truth but i have no way of proving it...they could have never voted labour...how am i to know

And i am sure there have been posters on both sides pretending to be tory or labour saying something so awful that everyone goes...fucking tory/labour wanker

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/06/2017 08:53

It makes me cringe when people start 'who should I vote for' 'how does the system work' posts.

It's a site with a strong left wing bias. So instead of asking randomers, why not actually read the manifestos, in fact read anything you can find.

The 'don't vote for the Tories unless you agree with killing puppies' posts are ridiculous too.

Not as cringeworthy as the 'I really fancy JC' threads though

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 08:55

The 'don't vote for the Tories unless you agree with killing puppies'

Well I'm more worried about May's attack on the rights of the people.

bruffian · 07/06/2017 08:58

I rolled my eyes at jcs comments on terrorism

Oh we'll do it all by talking to communities (fair enough) AND by detaining those terrorist suspects

How does he think labour will detain them without changes to human rights laws?!

bruffian · 07/06/2017 08:59

Celebrities are cringe making

Where even IS Russell Brand this time

ShatnersWig · 07/06/2017 09:00

The fact that huge swathes of this country can't put aside one hour over the last month to at least read the two main parties manifestos and/or local election literature is, quite honestly, a disgrace to those who fought to get us the vote (men and women). If you still can't decide which way to vote, spoil your ballot, but turn the fuck up and do something. The lack of engagement is pathetic.

BarbarianMum · 07/06/2017 09:03

I don't trust the Conservatives with the NHS or the economy and I don't trust Labour with the economy either. Will vote Lib Dem, even though there is no chance of getting a Lib Dem MP in my constituency.

eelbecomingforyou · 07/06/2017 09:04

I think the NHS should be privatised. It's a huge organisation eating up billions of pounds and a whole lot of that is wasted money on managers, not on front line nurses and doctors.

I also think that if people had to pay for doctors' appointments they would think twice about making an appt for every cough or sneeze.

I'd raise taxes to pay for the reorganisation and I'd also introduce health insurance on a sliding scale so that people who earn say under £20k have access to free healthcare for certain things.

But I'd also introduce fines for people who failed to turn up to appts.

bruffian · 07/06/2017 09:05

I strongly believe the NHS needs a complete overhaul and I KNOW labour will never do that. They will just keep pouring money into a bottomless pit.

Bambamrubblesmum · 07/06/2017 09:05

Talking to communities isn't a new thing. There are anti extremism forums that involve Muslim communities, Police, social workers, military, judicial system, government and so on, that have been running for years. These are designed to enable communities to spot trouble, raise concerns and discuss issues. JC isn't saying anything new there.

bruffian · 07/06/2017 09:06

I agree. I like the idea that you pay at point of use unless on a low wage. Once your payments hit 80 per year it's free then after.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 09:09

What's the point to Russel Brand? Did someone once tell him he was clever or talented? Pathetic little silly man.

Who cares how Stephen Hawkins votes either? Bizarre you would care or follow celebs like a sheep.

The NHS needs top to bottom reform and cross Party imfeodndant management not more tax payers money.

It would collapse under labour along with the economy

flipnfill · 07/06/2017 09:12

This election seems to really be bringing out the worst in a lot of Labour voters, not all Tory voters are thick and selfish and hate the NHS and poor people you know. Maybe we are voting for what is realistic and what's not going to get the country in even more of a mess.

20nil · 07/06/2017 09:18

Not all Labour voters are uneducated, economically illiterate, pie in the sky dreamers either. The clichés go both ways I'm afraid, especially on a platform like this one. It's different in discussions with friends and colleagues where you have to retain a degree of civility. This is an anonymous free for all and many of the comments reflect this.

ShotsFired · 07/06/2017 09:30

I agree with most of the people on this post - OP is trying to create her own right-on echo chamber of saying Labour = God-like saviours, Tories = Black-hearted Devils incarnate, and no other possibilities exist, when that is patently idiotic.

FWIW, I think out of town hospitals on cheaper land with (for one thing) plentiful, affordable parking and transport links would be great - along the lines of park and rides, say. Whether you are 999'd or outpatient or visiting, it would be easier to get to and use.

I am currently flitting between two town/city based sites and the time, stress, traffic and cost of getting to them is outrageous. And then even travelling between wards and departments on site is a rabbit warren of link corridors and stairwells added on piecemeal to outdated and fairly crumbly buildings. All of them are on prime development land that could raise massive revenues.

20nil · 07/06/2017 10:17

And again. Who knew that mumsnet was so full of NHS experts who think it should be reorganised comprehensively, or that throwing money at it is not the answer, or that their particular experiences with buildings and services provides a blueprint for national reform? I know it's not fashionable, but please, do read what various experts are saying. There's a range of views from the IFS, the King's Fund, the BMA or this very comprehensive report: www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld201617/ldselect/ldnhssus/151/151.pdf
