To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

I am not sure replacing her on the day the before the election with Lyn Brown inspire confidence.

If it were Yvette Cooper I would switch my vote to Labour immediately.

hackmum · 07/06/2017 09:35

Halle71: "There are so many people who feel sorry for her/think she is being bullied but this total hypocrisy - imagine if this was a prominent member of May's cabinet - they would be hung, drawn and quartered by the press."

Do you think so? Given that almost all the main papers in the UK (the Times, the Telegraph, the FT, the Mail, the Sun, the Express) are all supporting the Tory party, and that some of those papers have engaged in nasty smears against Labour politicians, do you really think they would be savage towards a Tory frontbencher fluffing an interview?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/06/2017 09:36

Who is she being replaced with?

WalkingOnLeg0 · 07/06/2017 09:39

But seems she is only being temporarily replaced. He didn't have the courage to permanently replace her.

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 09:41

Much as it pains me to stick up for Corbyn, would you expect someone on sick leave to be permanently replaced? There are plenty of reasons not to vote for Corbyn's team that don't involve Abbott in my view.

Justanotherlurker · 07/06/2017 09:41

Who is she being replaced with?

Lyn Brown

I believe she was one who was campaigning for a living wage whilst replacing an employee with an unpaid intern.

Top notch appointment it seems

Two4One2017 · 07/06/2017 09:41

Replacing her 24hrs before we go to vote, after she had been caught in an email scam admitting her illness was made up - replaced by someone who stood down "for the good of the party" during frontbench resignations in 2016. She said of JC "for the good of the party and the country I believe we should seek a new leader" - so why should we vote for JC if she doesn't think he will make a good leader?

JC's not exactly got a bench full of talent to choose from has he? DA will be back next week

Meanwhile, Paul Johnson from the IFS savaged JC this morning saying there's no way they can raise £50bn in tax they need from the measures announced SO FAR

citroenpresse · 07/06/2017 09:42

mmmm hackmum re The Telegraph and May. Definitely some anger there and questioning whether she is up to the job after the manifesto and campaign.

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 09:46

I've not heard Paul Johnson say anything I disagree with yet - on R4 or on the IFS website/twitter. The IFS are particularly good on the long term NHS and pensions cost pressures we face.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/06/2017 09:46

Abbott can be annoying, condescending but hiding behind her is McDonnell it's a shame her career has been overshadowed by her stupid comments

Corbyn and McDonnell are of the same ilk (along with Livingston who has always divided voters) that have been seen as difficult an annoyance and agitators in the Labour Party or the left of politics and there connections have been questioned many times but they were never much more than a thorn in Labours side no one took them seriously. Corbyn comes across differently to McDonnell and people (well some) do warm to him they don't to McDonnell

Those behind the party campaign know this and this is why McDonnell has remained in the background but he along with Corbyn will be very much making decisions together along with McCluskey, Milne and other hard lefters

That is what people will be voting for not just the nice principled Corbyn with his manifesto of hope that ignores that very real difficulties our country is facing with Brexit

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 09:46

yeah who the hell is Lyn Brown? I'm somewhat pleased she's previously rejected Corbyn, shows some judgment, but does that look like a workable governing consensus?

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 09:48

Having systematically cut police resources for almost a decade, leaving her nation in danger, Theresa May is now turning on the very rights of her own citizens.

She should be the one stepping aside.

And she should do it now.

citroenpresse · 07/06/2017 09:49

I wonder how many people, having been loyal and supportive to their boss for years would be then applauding their boss for 'his courage' if they were dumped unceremoniously. She's not gong to be Home Secretary. Hilarious that Tories worry about qualifications here when it could so easily have been Andrea Leasom leading Brexit negotiations. Depth of talent - hahahaha.

citroenpresse · 07/06/2017 09:50

Leadsom

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/06/2017 09:52

Good morning to the dedicated duo.

How is Andrea Leadsom relevant? She tried, and wasn't elected and it was all over.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 09:56

I wonder how many people, having been loyal and supportive to their boss for years would be then applauding their boss for 'his courage' if they were dumped unceremoniously

now that is some twisting

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/06/2017 09:57

Wow, will you all vote Corbyn now Dianne Abbot has been replaced?!

Abitofaproblem · 07/06/2017 10:02

DA is being dumped. It's the day before the election. Unceremoniously or not? I don't know.

bruffian · 07/06/2017 10:03

Wow, will you all vote Corbyn now Dianne Abbot has been replaced?!

I doubt it. Google Lyn Brown.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/06/2017 10:06

Oh God. I don't want to.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/06/2017 10:07

I still think replacing the line-up - due to er illness - is not half as weird as writing and re-writing your manifesto/policies on the hoof. (Especially when you called the fecking election!)

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 10:07

it's a huge signal to me that I'm having to google members of the labour front bench when I'm a party member and have previously been a labour voter for 20 years - so hardly politically oblivious!

bruffian · 07/06/2017 10:09

I agree with you

I did vaguely know who she was but only for negative reasons, I remember the unpaid intern thing.

Totally bizarre choice.

bruffian · 07/06/2017 10:09

I imagine she's one of the only ones who will work with him.

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 10:14

I did feel sorry for Kezia Dugdale - I saw her quoted as saying that she'd never been on the fence about Jeremy.

I've never been on the fence about Jeremy either and his lukewarm support for Scottish labour, Kezia or the remain campaign (EU or UK)
