To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

Other than an inability to perform on television, what are her failings as shadow Home Secretary?

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 07:46

Perhaps Dianne does not interview well.

But let's be clear here. Our current situation, with terror stalking the streets of our country, rests completely on the shoulders of those whose prime task is to keep the public safety.

The Tories have abdicated this responsibility, while focusing on the enrichment of the upper class. The have nothing to fear tucked away bending concrete watching their wealth rise.

Perhaps Diane doesn't interview well.

But strong and stable repeated like some masochistic mantra is to me more idiotic.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 06/06/2017 07:48

The sad thing is that Corbyn cannot replace her as there is absolutely no one else in the Labour party that will work for him. If he wins the country is going to be run by literally the dregs of the party. God help us.

Dandandandandandandan · 06/06/2017 07:50

Oh bollocks, make. It's not about not interviewing well. It's about not understanding your own policies. She clearly has no clue.

I talk too quickly, esp when I am nervous. If you stuck me in front of a camera, I wouldn't come across well. But you could do it with 10 seconds warning, I could still answer any question about my sodding JOB and the strategies that I've put in place for any one of my clients.

And sorry but if you think politicians don't need to be media savvy in 2017 then you are v wrong. It's shit but that's the way the world has gone. #covfefe

Brokenbiscuit · 06/06/2017 07:52

She isn't a clever woman

She is a clever woman. She is a Cambridge graduate and used to be very quick/sparky. I don't know what has happened to her - have just read the other thread and feel bad now because people are saying that she looks ill. Regardless, I don't think she is fit to be home secretary at the moment.Sad

Sunshinegirls · 06/06/2017 07:52

Time and time again I read that people let an individuals personality affect their decision on who to vote for. Please read a parties manifesto. Please think about the policies of each party, the direction in which the party wants to take our country and society. How each party treats the vulnerable, how each party values the NHS.

This isn't the fucking X factor final.

The conservatives do not care about you, they care abut money.

stonecircle · 06/06/2017 07:55

Not only does she appear unwell/ill-briefed/incompetent, she always comes across as really patronising and sneering. She tends to close her eyes too much anyway but her long fringe and the positioning of her glasses makes them look closed even when they're not.

I've voted Labour all my life. It's my default position. I'd recently reconciled myself to JC as I think he's getting his act together. McDonnell has been kept out of sight. If they would sack her today or tomorrow I wouldn't hesitate, but Diane as Home Secretary.......?

Dandandandandandandan · 06/06/2017 07:55

But sunshine - who is going to be implementing the policies? A piece of paper can't govern! It needs someone competent.

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 07:57

The conservatives do not care about you, they care abut money.

Exactly! It is not them nor their one percenter buddies staring face to face with terror.

Abitofaproblem · 06/06/2017 07:57

The choices for Labour front bench are severe limited because loads of Labour MPs refused to work under Corbyn. Why people think he is a great leader just because he is now promising everything in his red book to win votes I don't know.

Brokenbiscuit · 06/06/2017 07:59

Other than an inability to perform on television, what are her failings as shadow Home Secretary?

Did you actually see the interview, sunshine? It wasn't just poor presentation, which I forgive. There was no substance either. She appeared not to have a clue what she was talking about. She said that she had read the report they were discussing, but she didn't have any idea what was in it. Either she lied and hadn't read it - and such a woeful lack of preparation on such an important subject for the shadow home secretary would have been unforgivable - or she had read it and had failed to retain any of what was in it, which is equally a cause for concern.

Our politicians need to be able to absorb and process a substantial amount of information on a daily basis in order to make sound decisions in government. Diane Abbott didn't look capable of that yesterday, but I am now wondering if there are some serious underlying health issues. She is not the woman she once was.

ilovesooty · 06/06/2017 08:00

The cabinet whether outgoing or shadow always changes after an election anyway.
This is an election about the next five years of government strategy, not about one person.

MissEliza · 06/06/2017 08:01

Clever? I've never thought of her as clever unless you count patronising and arrogant as a sign of intelligence. I'll never forget her on the Daily Politics show when she said 'is Jamaican mothers will do anything for our kids' and Andrew Neil went through her like a ton of bricks, saying 'so other mothers wouldn't?'

Brokenbiscuit · 06/06/2017 08:03

Time and time again I read that people let an individuals personality affect their decision on who to vote for.

Sunshine, this is not about personality. It's about competence and credibility. Home Secretary is a hugely important role. I will be voting Labour anyway, but I have serious concerns about putting Diane Abbott in that position. I can only cling to the hope that they wouldn't actually do that.

certificateofauthenticity · 06/06/2017 08:03

She has reached her level of incompetence. In fact she probably reached it some time back. So yes imho.

Frazzled2207 · 06/06/2017 08:03

I've actually warmed a bit to JC himseld but it worries me greatly that he's alienated some key, competent Labour politicians. People like Yvette Cooper who would be brilliant HS.

Sunshinegirls · 06/06/2017 08:03

Look where the last Home Secretary got us, with the reductions in our police force. But it's ok that she got us in this state because she can handle a TV interview and can repeat robotic mantras to calm your poor worried mind.
Think what the tories winning on Thursday will mean for this country. More poverty. More war. More deaths. More foodbanks. A divided society. A horrible future for our kids.

WateryTart · 06/06/2017 08:05

YANBU. I can''t bring myself to vote Labour after decades of doing so. And she's the reason.

papayasareyum · 06/06/2017 08:05

both Corbyn and her are liabilities.
Anyone still keen to vote Labour after watching Diane Abbott on the telly recently needs a head wobble.

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 08:05

Diane's views on motherhood aren't of concern. The failure of the Tory party to keep our people safe is.

cupthejunction · 06/06/2017 08:05

Ah she's harmless.
I'll definitely still be voting Labour.
Certainly won't be voting for the Thug party. (Conservatives)

Brokenbiscuit · 06/06/2017 08:07

Sunshine, you're not listening. I hate the last Home Secretary as much as you do, and I can't stand the current one either.

But this isn't about the ability to handle a TV debate. It wasn't about her presentation. It's about the ability to engage intelligently with the issues. She clearly had no idea what was in the report that she was there to discuss.

Screwinthetuna · 06/06/2017 08:08

I was undecided and now I really can't bring myself to vote labour

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/06/2017 08:08

You have to consider her performance personally as she will be the bloody Home Secretary. Confused

It's so dire. It makes me so cross that there is essentially no credible opposition. I'm voting Lib Dem (before I'm accused of being a Tory kitten murderer) but most of my friends who would normally have voted Labour (like me) are either voting Lib Dem or are in despair.

To actually try and defend that performance is just incomprehensible and back in the real world, most people are Shock

stonecircle · 06/06/2017 08:09

Do people think that, if Labour did win, then MPs who previously refused to work with JC might change their minds?

The refusal to work with him seemed to me to be an orchestrated attempt to remove him. That failed. If Labour got in, would they all really sit back and let JC make a hash of running the country and ruin any chance of re-election?
