All those American and British artists supporting Manchester, where's that fecker Noel Gallagher. Liam has been there for his home city and he's supposed to be the loutish one

Actually, I though it was pretty disgusting for the idiot to make it about him & his spat with his brother. He's an utter twat.

Dawndonnaagain · 05/06/2017 15:07

Johnny Marr was there but I don't see anyone complaining that Morrissey wasn't...

stitchglitched · 05/06/2017 15:07

Liam started it with the public spat. Sounds like Lisa was defending Noel who bothers with his niece. Liam instead choses to use a charity event as an excuse to mouth off about his brother.

GinSwigmore · 05/06/2017 15:08

Unfair criticism of Noel...

  1. Pre booked family holiday before announcement of the concert (which was brilliantly but hastily organised only within the last two weeks)
  2. Noel had already said he wouldn't be in attendance, the rumour mill only began because the gangly extraneous band member of the peas falsely hashtagged Oasis
  3. Liam was able to fly back as he finished playing Nuremberg at six, I think, which gave him five hours as UK an hour ahead. I still think it was amazing he did it but he is on tour at the moment with a single released on Saturday.
  4. Noel would have been damned either way, making it about him, or publicity stunt etc

but most of all...

  1. He has gone NC with his brother for a reason. On MN it is always encouraged that going non-contact means just that.
  2. His wife and family were on holiday: how many here would do an AIBU if DH announced they were working when it was not essential

On top of which the demographic for that concert would not have cared either way who sang Don't look back or Live forever and it was their concert ( I say that as a Liam fan who likes the new single).

I am more curious as to Where's Usher? (although having read about his life on wiki and tragedies he has had, I would not remotely judge had he pulled out following London attacks tbh)

Not really sure why Liam was there. He didn't write Don't look back in anger, he didn't sing on it. Basically he is a bit of a has been, not very talented in the first place, Manc musician. I am sure there are dozens of those knocking around.

TheWitTank · 05/06/2017 15:09

It is nobody elses business where Noel was apart from Noel himself. The concert wouldn't have been more or less successful with him there. I wouldn't want to do anything with Liam either to be honest.

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2017 15:09

And Morrissey - where was he?

MrsJayy · 05/06/2017 15:10

Say it like it is Liam don't hold back now Grin i got excited that Oasis were there then realised Noel couldn't be arsed to go Liam was fine on his own wanted him to sing wonderwall just out of brotherly spite love

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/06/2017 15:12

Morrissey probably had a UKIP meeting to go to.

Leanback · 05/06/2017 15:13

As a Mancunion the last person I'd have wanted there was morrissey

HLBug · 05/06/2017 15:14

Well said GinSwigmore

Boulshired · 05/06/2017 15:17

Usher pre booked concert finished too late for him to get to the UK.

derxa · 05/06/2017 15:18

I love Liam and Noel. It must be difficult for the rest of the family. Their mother was very strong and took her children away from their abusive father.

GinSwigmore · 05/06/2017 15:18

It was Ariana's gig and her management Scooter Braun invited his/her contacts and who he manages/promotes. Miley and Katy are mates. Imogen Heap she does genuinely like (she has covered Hide and Seek herself).
It was never a Mancunian Concert in terms of New Order/James/M People/Insprals/Happy Mondays/Roses/Doves/Smiths/Oasis....it was for arianators.
Liam was asked about the gig recently and said he was already playing Rock im Park otherwise he would have been happy to take part. Someone then probably worked out logistically it was still possible and as he had said he would have, he did. Fair play.
It wasn't Live Aid where everyone was being asked. It was more Ariana & Friends with a couple of people she probably only met yesterday, bless her.

The80sweregreat · 05/06/2017 15:22

I didnt miss him at all. Lots of other big names didn't go along either.
Doesnt mean they don't care.
I was impressed with Ariana and she must have been scared at first - her and her people did a great job in time at all and the ones that play were not bad. i really hope that the money goes to the people that need it straight away and can help them all. those are the ones that matter.

FlyingElbows · 05/06/2017 15:22

Songs like "she's electric" have absolutely no relevance to the kids that concert was aimed at and I doubt many of them even know about Oasis. They were my era and I'm 40! Liam was there because he has material to promote just like every other record company who placed performers there. There's little altruistic about an event like that really.

HmmOkay · 05/06/2017 15:23

If Noel had done it, all the focus would have been about him and Liam. And that wasn't what the night was about.

The concert was great as it was. It was geared towards younger artists and a younger audience which was absolutely fine (with a few older musicians of course).

LoveMySituation · 05/06/2017 15:24

Maybe Noel believes in The Importance of being Idle

Iamtheresurrection · 05/06/2017 15:24

Noel's gone down a bit in my estimations recently.

I think Liam had a bit of a reality check with the Manchester bombings given he has teenage kids. Noel is turning into a Manc Bono.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/06/2017 15:27

I do think the kids will know about Oasis though, especially as they are mainly kids from the north west. Our kids are well up with us oldies' music, just from hearing it around the house and in the car.

squoosh · 05/06/2017 15:28

N-dubz?

squoosh · 05/06/2017 15:29

N-dubz?

MssGameandWatch · 05/06/2017 15:29

I've read that Liam used to get violent with Noel regularly whenever they argued, not sure how true that is. I wish he'd been there but I don't blame him for not being.

HmmOkay · 05/06/2017 15:30

There always has to be a scapegoat, doesn't there? I find it a bit frustrating really.

I wonder if we can ever look at something and think "A good thing was done there. The end" rather than "A good thing was done there. Who can we stick the boot into now?"
