Staunch Tory wavering

So as title says, I have always been a staunch Tory supporter and I also voted leave in the EU referendum. I genuinely have the utmost faith in TM to deliver brexit to the best of her ability

BUT

the NHS & education...

JC is someone I could never respect but labours approach to the NHS and education seems to be far far better. However I simply cannot abide any of their social policies (my view on this is that EVERYONE who is physically and mentally capable of working, should, no one gets a free ride unless disabled/caring for someone who is)

Now I don't want Tory flaming but I need to decide whether the Tory economical and social policies outweigh Labours NHS plans and education policies. Can anyone help?

Remember Theresa May more than once last night saying that Diane Abbott wanted to get rid of terrorist DNA from the DNA database? She was very clear that that's what Diane Abbott wanted to do.

Andrew Marr interviewed Diane Abbott who was very clear that she didn't want to do that.

How odd that TM got that wrong.

Andrew, you may as well have just postulated that Labour may bring in a policy of compulsory kilt wearing on a Thursday. It's just pie in the sky conjecture.

Andrewofgg · 03/06/2017 17:35

The House of Lords could be swamped by creations.

I do not trust JC's union paymasters not to make him try it.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 03/06/2017 17:38

I was wavering away from tories but sturgeon on the radio yesterday brought me back. So she thinks she can be part of a progressive alliance influencing the affairs of parts of the country she wishes to be separate from? I think she's an arrogant presumptuous little fart.
Every time that woman opens her trap the tories gain a thousand votes. They should park Theresa and just wheel out Nicola. Job done.

iamavodkadrinker · 03/06/2017 17:40

The tories have run an absolute shitshow of a campaign. Ironically theresa "strong and stable" may has probably saved the Labour Party.

BoneyBackJefferson · 03/06/2017 18:37

iamavodkadrinker

Its almost as if they haven't learnt anything from the referendum.

April229 · 03/06/2017 18:45

For those voting on the basis on the economy the debt has INCREASED under Tory. How is that economic management? The idea that companies will go abroad with corporation tax, where would they go? Everywhere in Europe has higher corporation tax that the amount JC is suggesting.

If you watch & read non- right wing papers, TV channels and blogs, you will plainly see that the Tories are talking pure and utter shite.

Critical thinking here is imperative.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 03/06/2017 18:48

I thought about all this as well and for me it comes down just not believing JC can deliver on his promises.

Remember Nick Clegg, promises promises promise on 'end to tuition fees'? Into government, 'there is no money', reality hit and tuition frees go up.

The country just cant afford all his promises our deficit will spiral and the shit will hit the fan. Better the devil you know.

MayhemAndRudderless · 03/06/2017 18:50

The Labour party's economic policies are not far left at all. If anything, they are as centrist as they come.

April229 · 03/06/2017 18:51

In addition billions is lost in unpaid tax that could be used for schools. I can't be ok with removing school meals from children in poverty as an alternative to letting millionaires keep a bit more money. I know we all have different political views, but we are all human, even the children in poverty.

MayhemAndRudderless · 03/06/2017 18:51

I don't believe JC will do a u turn on tuition fees. He's stood by his own convictions all his life.

May, however....

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 03/06/2017 18:51

What. Like the unbiased Canary or Squark box?

MayhemAndRudderless · 03/06/2017 18:59

Piglet where did I say those left-wing blogs you mention are not unbiased?

I'm talking about taking things on balance, using rationale.

MayhemAndRudderless · 03/06/2017 19:01

I read right wing papers and watch the MSM news and political shows.

It's plain to see: the Tories talk shite.

MayhemAndRudderless · 03/06/2017 19:07

The MSM is in our face all time and it's Tory owned. How is it not unbiased?

Read broadly and keep an eye on the body language and attitude of politicians. It is incredibly revealing.

May stands for herself and her business interests. She simply does not care for anyone beyond her own nose.

Jupitar · 03/06/2017 19:21

KarlosKKrinkelbeim

Corbyn has stated that he's not doing an alliance with anyone let alone sturgeon, he'd rather have a minority government

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 03/06/2017 19:37

thats what he says now. Let's not take the risk, eh?

Anycakeisgoodcake · 03/06/2017 19:38

Vote for the party who can deliver the future you would want a vulnerable person (say a disabled child or an elderly relative with complex needs who lives 200 miles away from you to have)

BoonDucks · 03/06/2017 19:42

Not a staunch Tory but an undecided voter who started off a few weeks ago planning to vote Tory and now veering to Labour

This is a useful thread with mostly less judgement and hysteria than others. Some passionate and convincing arguments against voting Tory.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 03/06/2017 19:48

On the other hand, also a lot of the same old boring smug leftie sanctimony that reminds me why I stopped voting labour in the first place.

SW10Lond · 03/06/2017 19:50

Sadly anyone's economic policies outweight Labour's. The UK National debt has surpassed £1 Trillion. That's £ 51.577 debt per taxpayer. People worry about NHS now, but if Corbyn and his irrational policies get into power - there will be no more NHS. Right now the economy is merely on survival mode. This is why we are seeing cuts everywhere which makes people's lives hard. There really exists no magic money tree to give free money out there.

If we get a government in power who starts spending in survival mode, it will be a disaster. Just imagine your own situation if you are deep in debt and can barely pay the bills every month - and a distant uncle moves on and begins to waste and spend the little you have. What will happen then?

The reality is that while Labour can talk about all the hardships and injustices people go through and how it's financially worse for people (to pull on their emotional strings to vote for Labour), things have turned that way because of past Labour policies. And it's very hard and slow to turn it around when a country's manufacturing and productivity has been destroyed and replaced with Chinese goods.

That should demonstrate to people how dangerous, financially, it would be for the country to have yet another Labour government.

A country needs manufacturing and exports to build a strong economy. Right now the main contribution to what makes this country float is the financial district. But Labour wants to target and punish the industry that basically keeps the last bit of threads together.

When Labour destroys the economy with irrational policies, poverty increases, jobs are lost, unemployment goes up, crime escalates, meaning more and more cuts. In fact, the open door policy of Labour was so damaging that to simply go on functioning as normal, even with steep cuts, the government had to borrow

Jupitar · 03/06/2017 19:52

You stopped voting for a party that you agreed with because you didn't like the other supporters? Hmm okay then

christinarossetti · 03/06/2017 19:54

The Tories have increased the deficit with nothing to show for it (unless you best in a tax haven).

Labour have a costed economic plan. Just the existence of a coated manifesto beats the Tories to shite.
