For body shaming JC, that is just beyond vile and nasty. Glad it's looking like they will not win.

She is over.

Grin

As a woman in the World, let alone in politics, i would think it most impolitic to even mention anyone's (let alone a man's) physical appearance

As a few posts on this thread show, she'll get it back ten times worse. God knows what they are saying on social media (don't care to look, myself)

bigmack · 01/06/2017 12:04

I really think we should just have Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn together.
Not one after the other. Together facing the audience. Then facing each other.

TM wouldn't do it.

MaisyPops · 01/06/2017 12:06

So we had a debate. Everyone put their point across for what they would do if they won outright.

In a coalition people make compromises & negotiate.

Why is that such a difficult concept?

I would love a progressive centre left coalition that puts public services and the environment at the heart of what it does. Preferably one that will actually negotiate with Europe, drop the hard Brexit and not try to hold parliament to ransom (Mrs may - vote with me or I walk with nothin).
People forget that Brexit was fought on parliamentary sovereignty and the fact that a reasonable proportion of the UK think immigrants are stealing their jobs and benefits and yet any attempt to hold Theresa May to account gets attacked as being enemies of the people. It's almost like lots of people don't get how parliamentary sovereignty works.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/06/2017 12:09

Are other people's Tory candidates out and about?

I ask because I went to work a different way this morning and it was the first time I saw a single poster in a window for our Tory candidate, which was useful, because it's the first time I'd actually seen his name. Nothing through the door, no posters, nothing.

MaisyPops · 01/06/2017 12:12

Nothing round here.

In fact the one near where work in is getting slated on social media because he is meant to be in charge of the northern power house and voted in parliament to not help our local steel industry. His voting record shows he has repeatedly voted in a way that screws our area over.
He's also refusing to engage with all the other candidates (who are discussing things amicably and debating amicably. For all I don't like UKIP, their candidate has been a decent enough in their conduct)

terrylene · 01/06/2017 12:35

Not heard anything about mine (safe seat) - not sure if she is busy in a cupboard planning for Brexit or for ousting TM Hmm or the Conservative Associations strawberry cream tea.

GentlebeamSnowsmile · 01/06/2017 12:38

Our Tory candidate hasn't been out at all that I've seen although she did attend a hustings where she made a really crude joke about no-one being shot so far in proceedings. She's trying to gain Jo Cox's former seat. I don't think she did herself any favours with that remark.

Wellysocksbox · 01/06/2017 12:40

Well, I'm confused. I need to contact my local MP about something and his website says that he is not currently
an MP as parliament has been dissolved. There's no one answering the phone at his office, nor the Tory campaign office, there's no manifesto nor any election news to be had anywhere on anyone's website. Wtf is going on????

Wellysocksbox · 01/06/2017 12:41

It's a three line whip to throw this election, isn't it? Our Labour candidate is prominent. ....

noblegiraffe · 01/06/2017 12:43

The Tories don't want to throw the election, they are hiding because any time they actually appear and say something, it loses them voters.

GetAHaircutCarl · 01/06/2017 12:49

The stories are quietly campaigning in the swing seats.

Apart from that they know that their best policy is to STFU.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/06/2017 12:54

See in the days after the election was called, it sounded as though the Tories were after this seat - so I was expecting to see more of them, but haven't. TM came here to see her friends in a locked room, but that's about it.

PedaloBar · 01/06/2017 12:56

Theresa May was shit in Plymouth.

Orlantina · 01/06/2017 12:58

Surprised no Tories here. Our seat could go to the Conservatives.

But it's Labour and we voted Remain by quite a significant majority.

NotYoda · 01/06/2017 12:59

Gentlebeam

My goodness!

Our Tory candidate is not very visible (no chance of election here)

She did turn up to a debate about Education Cuts and was very out of touch, by all accounts. Laughably so.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/06/2017 13:03

Ours drove around in a car with a megaphone on polling day in 2015, or possibly 2010. It's a new one now, but that's the sum total of Tory activity I've ever seen here, so I guess they're not gunning for our labour MP as hard as was rumoured.

NoLoveofMine · 01/06/2017 13:32

Are other people's Tory candidates out and about?

Yes, we've had four visits from Tory campaigners including one from the candidate herself (despite whoever's answered the door each time telling them in no uncertain terms why they're absolutely not voting for them) and they've been out regularly across the constituency. Also had visits from May, Rudd and Johnson. It is one of the most marginal constituencies in the country which is obviously why but we've only had one visit from Labour - possibly pooling their relatively minimal resources as they know they have voters in this household anyway.

NoLoveofMine · 01/06/2017 13:33

The visits from May, Rudd and Johnson are to the constituency sorry, the four visits previously mentioned to our door.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 01/06/2017 13:36

Sadly, I can't fault our twatty Tory MP on his out-and-about-ness.

He IS everywhere.

We have local hustings at the weekend so that should be fun.

MaybeNextWeek · 01/06/2017 13:44

'Because (to state the obvious!) it is a WESTMINSTER election and she's not a Westminster candidate'

Ok. Thanks for this ^ and the others that repeated it. I have got the message. Can anyone tell me why she was at the last leaders debate in 2015, wasn't she in the same position then as she is now? Apologies for any thicknessGrin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 13:46

Just had a Tory minister knick on our door Shock spoke to DH. Here to help the local candidates.

I have to say they are trying and campaigning. Still no sighting of Labour incumbent I half wonder if they are waiting to lose it and get their payout as they are nearly 70 and been an MP for 20 odd years

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 13:47

why she was at the last leaders debate in 2015, wasn't she in the same position then as she is now?

And she was on the one the other day and she did the Andrew Neil interview.

Killdora · 01/06/2017 13:49

Nope (in Nuneaton)

I've had a labour visitor and a labour leaflet about our labour nominee. I've seen students with a labour stall set up.

Nothing from Marcus Jones.

MaybeNextWeek · 01/06/2017 13:53

'And she was on the one the other day and she did the Andrew Neil interview.'
Yes I thought so, doesn't matter but just interesting really.

Rudd should have made more of the fact TM would rather speak to the public while campaigning rather than bicker like school children in front of what seemed to be a heavily biased audience. Corbyn only had to lick his lips and they were all whooping and clapping.

Its like Trump all over again, the less intelligent people seem to be falling for the under dog.

Missingthepoint · 01/06/2017 14:55

Yesterday I finally got a Tory pamphlet posted through door. Today I get personally addressed version. I assume that they got my address from a letter I wrote to my sitting Tory MP about five years ago. Not from electoral roll as they would have included my middle initial had that been the source. Had a leaflet each from labour, green, lib dem and UKIP. The MP himself bumped into me as I was walking to church recently. Because I was easily identifiable due to the musical instrument I was carrying I was polite but he won't get my vote.
