For body shaming JC, that is just beyond vile and nasty. Glad it's looking like they will not win.

She is over.

Body shaming?

A professionally offended poster...

MaisyPops · 31/05/2017 07:48

user Have you been reading one of the 3-4 Daily Mail stories that have made up an entire policy?
Like the one where 'your garden will be taxed and your council tax will trebble'.
Hmm
There's one line in the labour manifesto thay says they are open to revaluation how council tax is calculated.

Tories are good at spin. A bit like Theresa May saying there will be a cap on energy bills... but then it disappears from the manifesto. Apparently, they'll just look into pricing. Which means we'll do no such thing but we just want working class voters so we can screw them over

Jupitar · 31/05/2017 07:49

Well you had better hope she wins because if Corbyn brings in his 'garden tax' there will be a lot more homeless people in this country
Seriously??? You think people are going to go from having massive gardens to being homeless 😂😂😂

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/05/2017 07:49

I'm not sure Starmer would keep his job lord knows who to he would be replaced by

He is very quiet during this election campaign Labour should focus on Brexit more but barely mention it he isn't part of Corbyn's circle and is a threat to Corbyn's leadership

I think he will be out on the back benches regardless of who wins the election and hopefully leading the party soon

MaisyPops · 31/05/2017 07:51

Jupitar
Obviously! I mean, Apple, Google and Starbucks would curl up and die and be found shrivelled in a corner somewhere if we dare to ensure they pay tax!

I always find people who complain about more fairness are the ones who are getting a disproportionately good deal at the expense of others.

IvorHughJarrs · 31/05/2017 07:54

I think it was a figure speech which was crammed into a very uncomfortable joke in an attempt to give it more impact.

I'm finding myself torn. In any other election I would not give her or the Tories a second thought but, much as I love Jeremy Corbyn, I think he and the Labour Party in control of the country's economics and Brexit would screw us all badly.

Jupitar · 31/05/2017 07:54

Unfortunately someone somewhere had already painted a horrific oil painting of TM naked, this is now getting shared under every video of her with yesterday's ridiculous joke. There's also gifs of her at an eu meeting standing on her own with no one to talk to whilst everyone is shaking hands and kissing cheeks. She's really done herself no favours at all with that comment.

BertrandRussell · 31/05/2017 07:55

It's a reference to a speech Bevin made in the 1950s about nuclear disarmament- a British foreign secretary without the bomb "behind him" so to speak would be going "naked into the conference chamber"

Neither May not her speechwriters appear to have grasped that...........

And the little aside adfterwards was undignified and ridiculous.

WinchestersInATardis · 31/05/2017 07:56

'Garden tax' is the Daily Mail speculating wildly on the basis of one line about a Land Value Tax.
Anyone with an ordinary home would be unlikely to pay much more than they are, and renters and those with smaller houses are likely to pay less or nothing at all.
The only people who'd get hit with big bills would be those with huge rental property portfolios and building corporations hoarding land hoping that it's value will go up in future and they can make a huge profit.
No one is going to lose their home because they have a big garden.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/05/2017 07:56

Imagine the uproar if JC had said that about TM.

I know I'm expecting too much from my politicians but it would be nice if they can stop with the cheap point scoring and the not so subtle insults.

Call me a stickler but it makes me question whether someone who takes the piss out of her opponent with such ease would actually be able to handle a 3am foreign policy call with a little more diplomacy.

Deathraystare · 31/05/2017 07:58

I can just imagine the headlines if Jeremy Corbyn had said that about Teresa May!! Screams of sexism I would imagine!

BertrandRussell · 31/05/2017 07:58

One of the things I admire about Corbyn is his complete refusal to descend to the ad hominem.

MaisyPops · 31/05/2017 07:58

The way she has resorted to insults just reinforces my view that her Brexit strategy is:
"Give us what we want or we walk away with nothing to spite you"
EU- Ummm... OK.
"See i told you all the EU were being aggressive. But I was strong and stable"

WinchestersInATardis · 31/05/2017 07:59

Agree though that TMs naked comment was awful. The first, not great wording, and it could have been unintended. The sniggering after was just childish.

JanetBrown2015 · 31/05/2017 08:00

Actually they both have kept themselves fit - very rare in people their age.

"'Jeremy Corbyn’s minders can put him into a smart blue suit for an interview with Jeremy Paxman – but with his position on Brexit, he will find himself alone and naked in the negotiating chamber of the European Union.'

As the audience of Tory activists laughed awkwardly, she added: 'Now I know that’s an image that doesn’t bear thinking about. But actually this is very serious.' "

I don't take that comment to mean he is being criticised for his appearance. He's 68. May is 60.

The basic issue is do we want Corbyn to negotiate Brexit. Answer no. Vote Conservative.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/05/2017 08:02

It's a figure of speech, aren't people educated any more?

Yes User we are. Some of us educated lot are able to have a debate without resorting to childish insults, it's called acting like a grown up.

Kind of like how most of us are able to recognise the garden tax is pure codswallop and just the usual straw clutching from the Tories.

Dulcimena · 31/05/2017 08:02

I do agree with a PP - I don't have much confidence in her ability to handle Brexit based on her performance the other night. She didn't appear to be a "bloody difficult woman" at all tbh, and almost the opposite of "strong and stable" Hmm

MsHooliesCardigan · 31/05/2017 08:04

What I don't understand is how anyone is buying this 'Strong and Stable' bullshit when the reality is that she backs down at the drop of a hat - how many times has she said that she wouldn't call an early election? She did a u turn on one of the major budget policies within a week and then did the same in having a cap on social care costs within 48 hours after middle England went into uproar.
Much as I detested Thatcher, she did have the courage of her convictions.
TM has spent the whole of this campaign hiding from the public and just attending carefully stage managed events speaking to a handful of hand picked Tory faithful and then being whisked away before she is asked any awkward questions. Paxman made mincemeat of her. And I totally agree that, if Corbyn had made the same comment about her, there would be uproar.

Jupitar · 31/05/2017 08:05

I'm not sure Starmer would keep his job lord knows who to he would be replaced by

He is very quiet during this election campaign Labour should focus on Brexit more but barely mention it he isn't part of Corbyn's circle and is a threat to Corbyn's leadership

Actually he was out with Owen Jones the other day campaigning for labour and talking about his support for Corbyn so don't know where you got all that tripe from 🙄
Why do they need to focus on brexit more? Brexit is going to happen and nobody knows on what terms until it happens, there are far more important things to be worried about like the cuts in the police, fire brigade, prison services and NHS

Peregrina · 31/05/2017 08:05

Sadly for Theresa May, she is not a student of history. Hence the garbled quotation from Nye Bevan, protesting about unilateral nuclear disarmament:

You will send a British Foreign Secretary, whoever he may be, naked into the conference chamber. ..

MorrisZapp · 31/05/2017 08:08

I get that politics can be savage and that denigrating your opposition is pretty much the job description, but TMs comment and 'joke' were simply disgraceful. I'm not easily offended, I laugh at most of this crap. But I couldn't believe she said it. How utterly lacking in awareness she must be, to think it would go over well. Yuck.

MaybeNextWeek · 31/05/2017 08:08

It doesn't bear thinking about though does it. You're right, she doesn't need to sink to sexist jibes to make the man look ridiculous, he manages perfectly well all on his own.

Igneococcus · 31/05/2017 08:09

I can't see him doing well in the Brexit negotiations. I have met many European polititians (I'm the sister of one) and I just can't see JC in tough negotiations. The cold shouldering that TM has to deal with has nothing to do with her personally, they would treat any British PM like that at the moment.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/05/2017 08:09

The basic issue is do we want Corbyn to negotiate Brexit. Answer no. Vote Conservative

Thanks Janet. But no I won't.

I dont trust someone who's party has failed to deliver on every single immigration target they've had to be able to negotiate something as complex as Brexit. Plus they're are other issues that need addressing and that some people find important. Hmm

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/05/2017 08:10

*there not they're.
