For body shaming JC, that is just beyond vile and nasty. Glad it's looking like they will not win.

She is over.

But she is awful to watch. Her delivery is painful, her body language all wrong, and the Mouth thing intrigues me.
I have read before that it's a nervous tick, but I have no idea.

Fair comment.

NoLoveofMine · 31/05/2017 18:49

Just imagine the outrage if this was the other way round and a male politician said made a comment about a woman politician

Yeah, they could never become President of the United States of America or anything like that could they?

Theresa May is proving increasingly inept and this was another lamentable comment from her, but all this "imagine if it was the other way round" is pretty ridiculous given the most powerful politician in the world has boasted about sexually assaulting women.

NoLoveofMine · 31/05/2017 18:52

Never mind many of the comments which have been made by various politicians recently; John McDonnell calling Esther McVey a "bitch" who needs to be "lynched" (violent misogyny), the Tory who said the Labour candidate for Erewash was unfit to be an MP because she was pregnant and "she'll be too busy changing nappies", etc.

M1nesasweetsh3rry · 31/05/2017 18:55

She has invited attacks on her own personal appearance, as that's exactly what she has done with Corbyn.

Violetcharlotte · 31/05/2017 18:56

NoLoveOfMine
Exactly. These examples are all appalling and we're horrified by them.

Which is why it's not ok for TM to make similar comments about a man.

NoLoveofMine · 31/05/2017 18:59

People weren't too horrified as Trump was subsequently elected President and people in America and across the road were queuing up to label it "locker room talk" and "banter". John McDonnell could well end up as Chancellor (plus many have defended those comments) and the Tory in question maintains his council seat. Women are subject to far more of this kind of thing and constantly judged on appearance, often derided for it - see some of the comments Nicola Sturgeon gets, including from male politicians.

The comments May made were pathetic though. As was she herself defending that Daily Mail headline about her and Nicola Sturgeon's legs.

NoLoveofMine · 31/05/2017 19:00

*across the world not road FFS. I hope no-one across the road was defending them.

NoLoveofMine · 31/05/2017 19:01

David Davis also recently made a "joke" about how horrifying the notion he'd want to kiss Diane Abbott was and not much was made of that. All this "if it was the other way round" is nonsense when it happens "the other way round" far more.

Peregrina · 31/05/2017 19:12

I have no sympathy for those who excuse May's lack of ability in leading the election she chose to call, by saying that she's a good constituency MP. There was nothing stopping her remaining as a backbencher and concentrating on her constituents, but she chose not to.

Crackednips · 31/05/2017 19:18

At least May hasn't been proven a liar yet like Corbyn. Not that I know of anyway......

noblegiraffe · 31/05/2017 19:24

Does 'I will not call a general election' not count as a lie?

Crackednips · 31/05/2017 19:26

A change of mind (or U-turn if you prefer) isn't the same as telling Porkies about your past.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 31/05/2017 19:35

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/30/theresa-may-lie-and-lied-to-become-prime-minister

How Theresa May lies.

Crackednips · 31/05/2017 19:49

The entire political caste and most of big biz lied and scare mongered over Brexit. All politicians lie for expediency's sake. Which is not to excuse it, but lying about having sympathies and supporting terrorist murderers, that are the enemies of the state (as Corbyn has) are for me, far worse.

noblegiraffe · 31/05/2017 20:04

Another lie is 'I can't do the debate, I'm busy preparing for brexit'

How stupid does she think the electorate is? The only thing she'll be doing tonight is panicking over that YouGov poll with her election campaign strategists.

noblegiraffe · 31/05/2017 20:09

Theresa May sold arms to Saudi Arabia who supply Isis.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/05/2017 20:32

  1. A change of mind with just a day of pressure from the media is concerning when shes going to be involved in one of the biggest negotiations in history.
  1. Sorry. What porkies have been told? Can you elaborate?
Violetcharlotte · 31/05/2017 20:45

NoLoveOfMine I think you misunderstood my comment. By 'we'd be appalled' I meant us on this thread.

Giddyaunt18 · 31/05/2017 21:37

Oh dear who decided to send Amber Rudd? Awful.

Madwoman5 · 31/05/2017 21:46

Fgs, there have been worse things said than that. It was a figure of speech. When was the last time you watched pmqt? Some of the stuff they all say is cringeable.

woman12345 · 31/05/2017 21:48

histinyhandsarefrozen great article and Shock too. Nothing about May surprises me, sadly.

Giddyaunt18 · 31/05/2017 21:52

Everyone impressed me tonight in different ways apart from Amber Rudd! She was truly awful. I feel quite sorry for her, talk about a bum deal.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 31/05/2017 22:41

I don't think she did that bad. Nor do commentators of all sides. It is always harder on the incumbent. People tend to see things with their allegences glasses on.

Also bear in mind her dad died a couple of days ago.

Orlantina · 31/05/2017 22:45

Also bear in mind her dad died a couple of days ago

And yet Theresa May decided that someone whose Dad died should go up in a debate in an election that SHE CALLED and that SHE has made about her strong and stable leadership.

That's not leadership. That's dodging the electorate and passing the buck.

Peregrina · 31/05/2017 22:50

It is always harder on the incumbent.
Since when has Amber Rudd been the PM? I can imagine that she might well become PM soon - like a week on Friday when the present incumbent resigns or is forced out.
