To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

Agreed. Maybe if others report the post it will get deleted more quickly.

I'm a 'high earner' and I'd be much more likely to leave the country if TM gets in. I like the idea of people having health care, education and social care that's free at the point of delivery. It's kinda fundamental to a decent society in one of the richest countries of the world.

londonrach · 29/05/2017 22:54

Seriously!

Whatslovegottodo · 29/05/2017 22:54

Anyone working in the NHS, police, state education or in fact any public services, will tell you what a difficult state things are in and set to get much worse - a vote for Tory is a vote for more cuts.
It's sickening.
I thought JC did very well tonight.

Rhayader · 29/05/2017 22:54

If you really believe it then put a bet on, I think you can get 13/1 right now.

IMHO YABU though....

I say this as someone who does not vote Labour. It is a myth that the Tory Party are 'better' at the economy than Labour. An absolute falsehood perpetuated by a right wing press and the complete inability of people to look into things themselves. But this is quite possibly a moot point as it won't matter how much the Tories continue to ruin the economy as when we bow out of the EU with no deal our economy tank anyway. To think that Teresa May is somehow seen as a better PM than Jeremy Corbyn would be internationally is again been perpetuated by a right wing press and utter bollocks.

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 22:58

All those concerned about Labour doing what sionella has so eloquently said they will do, have the Tories not done the same?

The deficit has increased to 1.2 trillion (correct me if I've got that slightly wrong), the NHS has been decimated, education is in crisis, welfare is in crisis, housing is in crisis and all the while the richest in the country are rubbing their hands together and laughing while they enjoy the fruits of their tax-dodging enterprise.

Shame on anyone who thinks a Tory govt will do anything for anyone other than the richest people in this country. I sincerely hope you all have the means to pay for private healthcare and education within the next 5 years.

Rhayader I actually did.

People were optimistic Miliband would do well.
Look how that went.
I can't stand the future of the NHS or education under a Tory govt and I can't stand Corbyn and think he'd be a disaster as PM, like, it seems, a lot of people.
It's a mess.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 29/05/2017 23:03

I think if the Tories do win it will be the most Pyhrric of victories.

I hope they don't, though. The interviews tonight were illuminating. We've become so used to politicians talking in sound bites that JC was engaging and enjoyable to watch - and disarming.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 29/05/2017 23:04

God, people on here are constantly whining about how offensive and downright unpleasant the "lefties" are.

The Tories on this thread are sweetness and light Hmm

YANBU op. This Tory govt is actually making me (almost) nostalgic for the days of DC and Gideon.

GlitterGlue · 29/05/2017 23:04

It's not going to happen. Come the 9th we'll all be waking up with the same feeling we did after brexit and trump.

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 29/05/2017 23:05

I'd like some of what you're having, I'm voting labour and I'm far less hopeful than you sound.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 29/05/2017 23:06

Why would he be a disaster @Amanduh?

He's articulate, intelligent and actually gives a shit about people.

Cuts and austerity measures are crippling our public services while our debt is increasing. We need someone with the balls to take an entirely different approach.

Hepzibar · 29/05/2017 23:07

I'm a lifelong labour voter. They haven't got a prayer.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 29/05/2017 23:07

Sioella what a vile phrase Angry

user1491401693 · 29/05/2017 23:08

I am a life long Tory voter and I am embarrassed by May.

No idea where I go from here.

Hell in a handcart probably.

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 23:08

I think the youth vote will help enormously. They're a group of voters usually untapped, but Corbyn's policies and engaging manner have won them over. I just hope they all go out and vote. The pensioners vote is important too, and May's u-turn on her 'dementia tax' and refusal to protect pensioners benefits (winter fuel, triple lock etc) is going to sway some of them too.

To all those not feeling confident - why don't you do something to help labour this week. An hour canvssing or leafleting a marginal seat can make a massive difference and is a great way to meet new people and have interesting conversations. I've started for the first time and I love the energy and focus of being part of a grass roots campaign. Loads to do just go on the Labour Party website and put your post code in.

deeedeee · 29/05/2017 23:09

After seeing him in the taxman show tonight this party line of saying he is ridiculous as leader seems utterly ridiculous. He was strong, likeable, knowledgeable and definitely a leader.

and the whole terrorist sympathiser thing is so painfully transparent and childish. Ofcourse you have to tale to people that you disagree with in order to resolve conflict. Surely a viper's nest of LTB's know that? Just like being able to negotiate reasonably with your cheating ex for the sake of the your children doesn't mean you don't think they are a bastard. I wish the people harping on about that would grow up.

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2017 23:12

Labour won't win, polling better than Miliband doesn't mean much when Miliband lost. I remember the last election there were rumblings and polls about a possible Labour victory, people were talking about another coalition, then the Tories went and won a majority.

I am at least hoping that the massive landslide that it looked like they would achieve a couple of weeks ago won't come about, or not as badly. That, at least, is a possibility.

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 29/05/2017 23:14

I'm off out leafleting tomorrow Whats, I'm a pessimist but it doesn't stop me trying!

smilingmind · 29/05/2017 23:17

www.tactical2017.com/
Most constituencies can only be realistically contested by two parties.
This site shows which way you should vote on 8th June to prevent the Tories from getting into power again.
I am a pensioner and have never voted Tory in my life.
The above link shows how to tactically vote in your constituency to oppose a Tory victory.

Ceto · 29/05/2017 23:22

After last year I refuse to get my hopes up, and I can't seriously see Labour winning. But I do so want May's gamble to backfire, particularly as she's made this election such a personal issue between herself and Corbyn.

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 23:22

Crap. Website is telling me Lib Dems are the only real Tory opposition where I am. Last time I checked, it said it was unclear. I can't in all conscience vote Lib Dem!
