To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

Lousianna my point was that May is so arrogant, self aggrandizing and conceited that she decided to call the snap election before the proposed boundary changes could be properly debated. She was relying on an increased majority to quieten dissent in the ranks.

I LOVE you, deeedeee. Brilliant post.

Two4One2017 · 02/06/2017 08:59

I think Labour will win - Sturgeon was on Radio 4 this morning saying she will enter coalition with Corbyn. Her spending plans make Corbyn's look moderate!! That should work well for Brexit negotiations - she doesn't want to leave. I think there's a chance we stay in the EU if this happens - I just doubt we can stay on our current terms, they'll want to extract something from us for causing this uncertainty - probably a few billion ££ to help patch up the Italian banks or the looming Greek debt repayment.

Labour have run a good campaign - credit to them. JC is a good campaigner and seems to be enjoying it. I'm still shocked Diane Abbott could be Home Secretary next week....maybe they can persuade Yvette Cooper to be a junior minister or something to give her a helping hand?

The 172 who gave JC a vote of no confidence look pretty stupid now. Even my Labour candidate is still refusing to endorse him. Will they slink back for the group hug and forgiveness, putting their beliefs to one side, once they can sniff power?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/06/2017 09:12

Sturgeon has said a number of times she will form a coalition

Labour have stated more the once they will not form a coalition why would he incorporate more centre political stance which they would
have to he despised the Labour Party for doing this

Why are the 172 looking stupid maybe their have principles and supporting Corbyn is not something they will do like many life long Labour Party voters its what Corbyn did to John Smith, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 09:14

Even the head of politics at YouGov thinks it will be a Tory win of 40-50 seats.

Some reading for taxpayers about the "costings" in the manifesto

capx.co/labours-manifesto-takes-the-voters-for-fools/

MyOtherProfile · 02/06/2017 09:46

Capx isn't exactly neutral though!

Justanotherlurker · 02/06/2017 09:54

Capx isn't exactly neutral though!

You cant just keep doing this, nothing is neutral, sometimes your have to stop attacking the man and play the ball.

The IFS has said both manifestos are fooling the public.

Two4One2017 · 02/06/2017 09:57

MyOtherProfile - post something "neutral" then. CapX is pro-capitalism. I've posted stuff about this costings issue from the IFS - people don't like that either. Apparently they are biased. So you post something that says "yes, the whole manifesto is fully costed, and deliverable, and the deficit will be paid off in 5years". I challenge you to find something that is "neutral".......

MyOtherProfile · 02/06/2017 10:23

Of course anything neutral is as rare as hens teeth. I'm just pointing out, before anyone reads that link and thinks Oo yes how terrible, that it's a right wing website and is bound to put down the labour manifesto. Doesn't mean it's accurate.

Justanotherlurker · 02/06/2017 10:36

Doesn't mean it's accurate.

You have made that assumption based on your own prejudice, you have played the man not the ball.

It is centre right, not right wing, like most of the country and in fact Europe.

Two4One2017 · 02/06/2017 10:36

It is a pro business, pro capitalism website (as I already said)...I couldn't find any Marxist ones to quote from re: the manifesto......

Funnily enough, people in this country rely on business to pay them, and will soon be relying on them even more via increased corporation tax o fund increased spending under Labour. My friend's business has already drawn up a list of redundancies and price rises that they will execute soon after the GE if Labour win - they will protect their profit margins you see.....but real people will pay with their jobs. Others work for businesses that have recently put downpayments on buildings in Ireland, as a Brexit fallback position.......increased taxes and regulation in the UK means that they are all the more likely to move. Hey ho! At least the Land Value Tax is in the small print to plug the gap.

So it may not be "neutral" but given we live in a capitalist world, it is probably worth reading?

MoominFlaps · 02/06/2017 11:34

It is centre right, not right wing, like most of the country and in fact Europe.

Who says most of the country is centre right? And Europe?

makeourfuture · 02/06/2017 11:56

The IFS

The IFS is not an overtly Conservative organisation. However, their stance is that public debt is undesirable. Everything is run through that optic. It is a view co-opted by many on the right (who like Ronald Reagan and the present Government - talk about less debt....while running it up).

Quite simply this is not sound economics.

Justanotherlurker · 02/06/2017 12:06

Quite simply this is not sound economics.

Make, you repeatedly just spam any threads with "debt, no plan" etc, go properly read about Keynesian economics before you spout your momentum playbook wisdom and understand the difference between deficit and debt, some debt is healthy yes, an unhealthy deficit spend is not.

Two4One2017 · 02/06/2017 12:07

Quite simply this is not sound economics.

Why is the IFS wrong?

Two4One2017 · 03/06/2017 21:32

LOL! Tomorrow McDonnell will pledge to cut VAT. Not in the manifesto. Not costed. Will be paid for " by strong growth" from all those companies he's increasing taxes for.

Front page of the Observer.

mummymeister · 03/06/2017 22:05

two4one2017 - is he also announcing the free unicorns because I have the stable and straw waiting and everything !!

honestly, how stupid do Jezza and maccy D think we all are with all this "its free money, we are going to cut this/that/the other and no one but no one is going to have to pay for it"

I wouldn't let them run a whelk stall let alone the country.

ToastDemon · 03/06/2017 22:08

You forgot "magic money tree" to go with your free unicorn cliché.

christinarossetti · 03/06/2017 22:08

The front page of the Observer seems to be documenting May's continuing decline in the polls and the Tory's chaos over tax pledges.

I think you'll find that it's May that has the stable and strong straw waiting...

Labour have never said that 'no one' is going to pay for increased investment in schools, health etc. They've been very clear about their taxation policy.

christinarossetti · 03/06/2017 22:10

Oh yes, the Magic Money Tree that gives MPs pay rises and tax relief to millionaires and corporations whilst selling off the NHS to the highest bidder.

Dawndonnaagain · 03/06/2017 22:32

Even the head of politics at YouGov thinks it will be a Tory win of 40-50 seats.
A company owned by an ex tory candidate and a tory MP and which, despite the name has nothing to do with the government whatsoever.

Dawndonnaagain · 03/06/2017 22:37

Twoforone can you provide a link please because I can't find what you're referring to.
Thank you.

christinarossetti · 03/06/2017 22:39

That was a pretty superfluous 'even.

Of course he's saying that.

Faith in May's leadership is dropping rapidly, also according to YouGov.
