To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

Piglet but that is precisely what they will do. In 5 years time, the NHS will be virtually non-existent, schools will be failing our children and nobody will be able to gripe about it on the internet because May will bring in her free-speech stranglehold that she's masquerading as an 'anti-terror' policy.

reverse psychology to make sure all the Tory voters return up on polling day?

Of course it is. It always happens. Just like the Blair mantra of one month/week/24hrs to save the NHS.

It's to avoid complacency and focus people's minds.

TheNaze73 · 30/05/2017 07:46

It would be hilarious if Corbyn won.

YANBU to feel optimistic. Optimism is a much more positive outlook on life than people who are eternally looking on the dark side and moaning.

However. I still think the Conservatives will win comfortably. There are thousands of "shy Tories" out there who won't tell anyone who they are voting for, or will lie about it because they're attacked on forums like this for killing disabled people, hating the poor or eating puppies for breakfast.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 07:50

The loss of Scotland voters is always going to have a big effect. Which is why his intervention yesterday on indyref was ridiculous.

Beachcomber · 30/05/2017 07:52

And I'm really surprised by Labour voters who say they have always voted Labour but won't this time. This manifesto is probably the most true to Labour values that we have seen in modern times. There are no pink unicorns paid for with other people's money in it (that was New Labour / Blair's technique to try to appeal to those who want socialism but don't want to pay for it). This Labour manifesto is sensible straightforward socialism with a clear outline that money does not grow on trees and investment pays off but has to be paid for.

scoobdoob · 30/05/2017 07:53

Just because one person in a party isn't too your taste, don't use that as your reason to vote.
Think what is important to you and how that may change.

I work in the NHS and I could never vote Tory. You will not have an NHS and given that health is our most important commodity that is what I will have in mind when I vote.

There will be no NHS and I know many people say "it is rubbish" already, why don't you pay private now then. Because we will be having nothing for free. And again how many times I hear "I pay your wages" well you will still be paying that money (and more) but also for you and your family to see a GP etc.

We obviously all have different views but I do wish that we sometimes look a little deeper.

RainbowsAndUnicorn · 30/05/2017 07:54

I hope not, look at the damage tax credits did and that was just one policy.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 30/05/2017 07:55

I don't know a single person who would vote for such a muppet, or for a manifesto which doesn't even represent his own beliefs. Not only is he a complete cockwomble but he's evidently also a spineless bastard within his own negotiations. Brussels would have a field day negotiating Brexit with him.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 07:56

We obviously all have different views but I do wish that we sometimes look a little deeper.

Yes but just because people don't agree with you it doesn't mean they haven't looked deeper.

AndHoldTheBun · 30/05/2017 07:57

I do have faint stirrings of hope that the tories might lose.

The Tories were so far ahead in the polls that they felt able to put all manner of shite in their manifesto, maybe they've gone too far, it's hard to tell. After Brexit and Trump anything could happen.

Now the Tory lead has been slashed, Nicola Sturgeon has said she'll go into coalition with Labour Smile...

Waterlemon · 30/05/2017 07:58

Im going to to have to vote tactically, labour have no chance in my area. Speaking to various friends scattered around the country, most will be doing the same.

On that basis, I'm going for another hung parliament, but seeing as most parties have ruled out any coalition, I don't understand enough about our political system to understand what that would mean!

I work in the Education sector, my job along with thousands of others, is under serious threat come July under a Tory government!

KentMum2008 · 30/05/2017 08:00

Piglet if you have genuinely looked deeper, then you're content with the fact that the NHS is in its final year, yes? That our children's education is in jeopardy. That's all ok with you, is it?

OP posts:
roywoodsbeard · 30/05/2017 08:01

I'm not a Corbyn fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I've voted for Labour.

I think there's more chance of a hung parliament or reduced Conservative majority than an outright win for Labour.

nursy1 · 30/05/2017 08:02

Frilly. You can't have many friends.
I know lots of people who are voting Corbyn. People who initially believed all the right wing smear stories about him have changed their minds. He has been given fairer coverage as the election rules about balance have applied and his support has surged.

Ackvavit · 30/05/2017 08:02

I'm really interested if anyone is planning to vote Labour and also send their DC to independent school?

That VAT hike is going to cripple some people and let's face it the state system won't cope with an influx of students priced out of the independent sect. There must be some labour voting parents in this position, I would like to hear their take on this manifesto pledge. I understand it sounds great to say they would spend the money raised on feeding state students so as to increase their performance etc but as I understood when I gave birth feeding and providing shelter for my children was my responsibility- so I only had 2. It seems preposterous to allow fee paying parents to not only be unable to claw back the money they do not claim from the place they do not take in a state school, but then think it is ok to ask them for more money to feed the nations offspring. Sorry, I thought JC came across reasonably last night but this pledge is a divisive one. Most parents who pay fees are not mega rich, and notably an increasing number choose independent because their children have social and anxiety issues which means they won't cope in a mainstream state school.

notaflyingmonkey · 30/05/2017 08:02

May was awful last night, and Corbyn was brilliant. God knows why anyone with a shred of intelligence would vote Tory.

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/05/2017 08:03

It is a myth that the Tory Party are 'better' at the economy than Labour. An absolute falsehood perpetuated by a right wing press and the complete inability of people to look into things themselves

Maybe look back to 1979 when Labour lost the election to the Conservatives due to leaving the Country in a woeful state.

Or the next time Labour had been in power and lost to the Conservatives

The Liam Byrne note saying "There is no money left" says it all

I aways want to know what was going on in the mind of Gordon Brown when he announced he was selling all our gold.

Did he think the price of gold would stay the same or didn't it cross his mind that by announcing you were about to flood the market the price would tumble

I have lived through 2 separate labour rules and both times they have left the country financially in a worse state than they found it.

KentMum2008 · 30/05/2017 08:04

www.schoolcuts.org.uk/#!/

This site allows you to enter your local schools postcode and then brings up a general picture of how their finances will look after 5 years of Tory rule. It is terrifying. The secondary school is like my daughter to go to will be down £459,557 by 2022. How can anyone condone this?

oliversmum the Liam Byrne is an old treasury joke dating back to the 1930's. It's just that the Tories are the only ones who try to use it as propaganda!

Frillyhorseyknickers - but you'll vote for May who is going to take us out of the EU despite it being something she is strongly against??

The Labour party manifesto is full of Corbyn's values - one of which is a deep belief in democracy (AKA listening to the party you lead). No matter what Corbyn does, some people will deride and insult him. If he hadn't compromised on trident people would be calling him a mad maverick idealist who won't listen to others.

Do people really want manifestos which only represent the views of the party leader? We aren't in America, voting for a president Hmm

If that were the case, the Tory manifesto should be backtracking on brexit cos their leader doesn't believe in it!!!

The hypocrisy!
