To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 22:33

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

We wont win but i no longer fear a 60+ tory majority which will mean they can be held account by their more socially minded backbenchers.

Oysterbabe · 29/05/2017 22:39

I really don't think that they have a hope.

MissBax · 29/05/2017 22:39

I'm with you OP and I truly hope it happens! 🙏 JC4PM!!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/05/2017 22:41

YABU. He would be a disaster for this country. Thank fuck most people aren't stupid enough to vote for him.

christinarossetti · 29/05/2017 22:41

The most terrifying thing is that it wouldn't be another 5 years. May has been very clear that she will change boundaries and voting requirements (having to produce a passport to vote etc) to ensure that no other party gets a look in.

That's a life time of watching public services disintegrate, the rich get richer whilst the poor get poorer, more and more people sleeping on the streets, the end of the NHS, a shite education system, a greatly diminished health and social care system.

All kicked off by May with her narcissistic delusion that she's going to be able to negotiate with Europe (when she can't even handle Paxman or Andrew Marr).

A beyond depressing future for most of us. Ker-ching for May and her pals though.

phoolani · 29/05/2017 22:41

It's not BU to think they'll reduce the majority. This last few weeks have been amazingly interesting, regardless of your political stripe.

KimJongCunt · 29/05/2017 22:43

No you're not BU.

And thankfully neither was JC during the 'debate'. He left that sort of nonsense to Paxman 😉

The sheer biased nature of the discourse has done Labour a massive favour.

Own goal to the Tories I'm afraid 😃

GraceGrape · 29/05/2017 22:44

I don't think Labour will win a majority government but I also think the Conservatives won't get the easy victory they assumed. I think JC has performed better than expected and the Labour party's manifesto went down better than the Tory one but the Tories will mop up most of the collapsed UKIP vote.

It will have been a complete waste of time if we end up with almost the same Parliament as we've already got. I wonder what a narrow Tory victory would do for May and Corbyn's political futures though.

helpimitchy · 29/05/2017 22:44

Jeremy Corbyn isn't capable of leading anything. If Labour win, the country will be fucked and we'll end up as an international laughing stock.

He might mean well but PM? seriously?

It definitely looks like May is scared of debating Corbyn, and although still a long way from winning, he is now polling better than Ed Miliband or Gordon Brown. Definitely not what was supposed to happen!

christinarossetti · 29/05/2017 22:45

I reported sionella's post for using that phrase, Poll.

I agree that it's horrible and utterly trivialising to use it in that way.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/05/2017 22:46

Sionella didn't use the most PC of phrases, but she's not wrong.

shinyredbus · 29/05/2017 22:47

no - sorry but i don't think that'll happen. Corbyn is totally absurd as a leader though - his links to the terrorist group IRA is abhorrent.

BusyBeez99 · 29/05/2017 22:47

Sionella I agree. A dangerous combination

Hoping for sensible voting on the 8th to
Re elect a Tory government

shinyredbus · 29/05/2017 22:48

Sionella wowzers - don't think you should have used that phrase.

Ravenblack · 29/05/2017 22:49

It's looking more like it may be a TORY/LABOUR coalition.

Not sure whether Labour will win, but for me, the worst thing about Labour isn't Corbyn; it's that ghastly Diane Abbott. I loathe her with a passion, and she is the main reason I will not be voting for Labour.

christinarossetti · 29/05/2017 22:50

I disagree with *sionella's view, but disagree much more with the way she expressed it.

shinyredbus, What links does Corbyn have to the IRA?

And what are your views about May selling arms to Saudi Arabia? Is that okay?

NeverTwerkNaked · 29/05/2017 22:50

Yanbu. I am a swing voter and have voted Tory in the past. I am agahst and the one-sided media and the potential ramifications of a much more right wing Conservative govt. But messages like the one below are doing the rounds on Facebook and I really hope they will make people stop and think. The Conservatives are pushing hard to the right now, with the arrogance of thinking the vote is all about Brexit.
It is time to make a massive decision about the future of our country.
I can't vote Labour here, it is a Tory/lib dem swing seat, so I shall vote lib dem. Their candidate is very good anyway, far better than the self-serving Tory MP we have at present.

To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?
help7872 · 29/05/2017 22:50

"The most PC of phrases?" WhatToDoAboutThis2017
Ffs I give up. We can't debate the election without abusive and downright offensive phrases being allowed?

Icallbullshit3 · 29/05/2017 22:51

I really hope so. I work in the NHS and am
watching it disintegrate... its soul destroying.

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/05/2017 22:52

The Tories are very fond if saying that the country will be fucked and an international laughing stock under Labour. They fail to see the irony of that statement.

NeverTwerkNaked · 29/05/2017 22:52

Please ffs don't make a voting decision because you hate /dislike an individual. Thst is totally irrational and small minded. Look at the overarching messages. don't make a decision based on judgements about the odd individual (and in any event, remember you are judging them through the lens of the press). It is so disappointing to see people doing this.

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/05/2017 22:52

Oh and yanbu op.
