To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

Some of the think tanks are publishing pieces on the LVT which is in the labour manifesto. It will indeed penalise those that own homes and have a garden. Given the funding gap (source: IFS) they will need to raise taxes from somewhere as the 5% is quite mobile as is the financial services sector.

I don't like focusing on personalities, I think votes should be based on policies BUT, how can people focus on how "vile" Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott (allegedly) are when the Conservatives have Jeremy Hunt, George Osbourne and Michael Gove, who have outstanding traits of vileness and would trump anyone apart from Trump in any definition of vileness? I just don't understand Tories and their values, and never will.

Alfieisnoisy · 01/06/2017 15:45

TBH most politicians make me want to reach for the off switch. Too many self serving MPs out there.

I have predictions though.

Theresa May will resign...and if not she will be pushed after this election.
Boris Johnson or the odious Michael Gove will be manoeuvred into No.10 .

As to the outcome of the election I was predicting a straight Tory win but am now not so sure. I think there are large numbers of people very angry about some of the ideological policies pushed through. Most can only take so many horrible stories before the start to see the effect these policies have on actual human beings.

Me...I'd be happy to see a hung parliament but my fear is that the Conservatives will jump straight into bed with the DUP who appear even more right wing than the current lot in Government. God help us all if that's the coalition we get.

muckypup73 · 01/06/2017 15:53

What is Labour teamed up with Snp and green?

Alfieisnoisy · 01/06/2017 16:00

Green? Don't know...o quite liked Caroline Lucas when I heard her speak though.

muckypup73 · 01/06/2017 16:15

Saying that I am not sure Corbyn would team up, I hope he does, cause if he walks away leaving the Tories in power the Labour party will be doomed.

AndHoldTheBun · 01/06/2017 16:24

Corbyn has said previously that he wouldn't go into formal coalition with the SNP, but that doesn't rule out an alliance with them (and another party if needed to make up the numbers). Some polling in the past couple of days suggest Labour and SNP could get ALMOST enough seats between them to form a government - it's all to play for in the next week.

Two4One2017 · 01/06/2017 19:01

Talk on twitter of Labour, Sinn Fein, SNP, green (well Caroline!) coalition.

If May were to go, lots of speculation about Rudd now (especially as she stood in at the 6 v 1 last

noblegiraffe · 01/06/2017 19:08

Dragon that's #fakenews put out by the Tory press.

Killdora · 01/06/2017 19:28

I'd be happy to see any labour coalition except with the Green Party.

If you are a woman, or have daughters, you do not want them getting in.

newdocket · 01/06/2017 19:48

Kildora, why not? Genuine question

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 19:49

Talk on twitter of Labour, Sinn Fein, SNP, green (well Caroline!) coalition.

Would be interesting to see if he won if Sinn Fein would take their seats.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/06/2017 19:56

Talk on twitter of Labour, Sinn Fein, SNP, green (well Caroline!) coalition.

It will last until Christmas at the best.

Killdora · 01/06/2017 19:56

Any party that wants to re-label me as a 'non man' rather than 'woman', purely to avoid offending a small group of rabid tra's does not have the interest of women at heart.

In fact it smacks of a party so desperate to be seen as progressive that they are happy to throw women under the recycled brexit bus.

papayasareyum · 01/06/2017 20:00

Yes Kildora, why is that? I'm intrigued too!

annandale · 01/06/2017 20:04

Killdora that has also put me off voting Green as Lucas should have addressed it, but it wasn't the main Green Party that did that. Was it the youth wing? It was shocking, certainly.

balence49 · 01/06/2017 20:10

Labour here, as is everyone on my social media but for one die hard Tory who is also a privileged fecker in real life with no thought for anyone but himself.

MoominFlaps · 01/06/2017 20:22

I've read the whole thread and I still don't understand why so many people hate JC. Confused

Handsup · 01/06/2017 20:24

To everyone claiming we'll be the laughing stock of the world with JC in charge - I have news for you: we already are.
Theresa May, sucking up to an unhinged President (who is likely to be impeached) isolating us from Europe with inflammatory comments and the only leader not to condem the pull out of the Paris climate agreement .
She's is a farking embarrassment.

Killdora · 01/06/2017 20:26

Seems the eu view negotiations with Corbyn much more favourably.

Even agreeing to delay negotiations if he gets in as a sign of goodwill.

I wonder why that could be....

Oh! Do you think it's because he hasn't threatened them and seems to want to negotiate fairly and without sound bites?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/06/2017 20:27

She's trying to make the best of the fucking disaster that was the Brexit vote.
Can't be easy.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/06/2017 20:28

I'm trying to imagine Dianne Abbott negotiating Brexit. Now that's fun!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 20:29

Seems the eu view negotiations with Corbyn much more favourably.

There is no real solid evidence of this.

Even agreeing to delay negotiations if he gets in as a sign of goodwill.

Well you could switch that around and say the EU want to delay starting negotiations as it suits them. The time is clicking down to 2 years.

Handsup · 01/06/2017 20:31
