to get annoyed with people who judge beach holidays?

I get really annoyed with the type of people who say 'Oh I could never lie on the beach for two weeks, you must be so bored!' and act like the only valid use of my precious two weeks off a year is trekking barefoot through the Andes teaching orphans English.

I get especially annoyed because 95% of them seem to earn lots of money for jobs with very little stress.

I love hearing about different people's holidays. I just get annoyed at the 'traveller' types.

I don't judge people for it, it's just not something I want to do. If they enjoy it then good for them, carry on! I wouldn't want to trek the Andes either but don't judge anyone who does. Horses for courses.

Yes. YABU.
I genuinely would be bored rigid on a holiday which involved lying on a beach or by a hotel pool. I prefer city holidays which involve lots of galleries, museums and culture vulturing in places like Firenze, Venice, Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Budapest, Amsterdam, Prague etc

Meh, I could never lie on a beach for two weeks but I couldn't care less what you (or anyone else) does on their holiday.

I wouldn't want to do either holiday described.

A relative went white water rafting in the Grand Canyon for a week. No thanks.

I don't mind what anyone else does on their holidays as long as they don't expect me to go with them.

Yabu. I'm a poolside holiday fan but I've met loads of people who hate that kind of thing. It's just different tastes, not an insult.

Lying on a lounger for 2 weeks is my idea of bliss. I'm with you OP!! I get annoyed by the judgy comments about All inclusive as well. We don't go AI any more, we do villas, but when the kids were younger AI was perfect!!

A beach holiday is my idea of hell, but each to their own, I can't get worked up about other people's choice of holiday.

I wouldn't enjoy a hot AI holiday because I don't sit or lie in the sun and there's too many other people about. I am not good with communal stuff.

But loads of people love them so I am in the minority.

If people say that I just think they are a weirdo. We do both types of holiday (as in city breaks not bare foot trekking) and enjoy both. The person saying it would be weird because clearly the person doing that holiday isn't bored or they wouldn't do it. I'd just do the raised eye brow and move the conversation on.

Everyone likes different things. There a beach holiday people. They don't like the active holiday people. There are people who bake. There are people -on mn- who are repulsed and angered by baking. There are people who vote Tory, then there are people who hate tories.

I do not like beaches nor do I like trekking and teaching English to kids. My favourite kind of holiday involves me going skiing either alone or with one other person, which understandably, is not everyone's cup of tea either. YABU, as are those people. There are not enough hours in the day to be annoyed at what someone does or does not do on their holidays unless you're paying for it!

They're not judging though are they? They're saying they wouldn't like it - not judging you for liking it.

I couldn't spend two weeks lying on a beach because the kids don't even let me go to the loo in peace, let alone leave me alone on holiday. I'd mostly be jealous, not judgy.

YABU a bit. Dh and I are teachers, so do not earn loads of money for jobs with little stress. Neither of us likes lying on the beach. We don't go trekking in the Andes and don't really do expensive holidays, mostly go camping or hire a cottage in the countryside somewhere. Lots of walking and outdoor activities with the dc. I wouldn't comment on other people's holiday choices unless asked for my opinion though - that would be rude.

I suppose I've said that before, but not a 'judgement' I just really wouldn't enjoy it and would get sunburned in about 5 minutes. In any case the only beach holiday we can afford is in the UK, which weirdly doesn't tend to involve much sun or laying around Grin Honestly I wouldn't want to trek through the Andes either, so don't take it personally and just enjoy.

I can't do beach holidays, there has to be something interesting, cultural or historical, in the mix.

I'm not judging, I've been on holiday with people who work long hours and have to drive every day, so for them, a holiday is one were they stay in bed, just read in the sun and drink. Whilst others in the group have done things of a day.

You've been quite scathing in your OP, there's an in-between,when it comes to choice of holidays.

YANBU. The last thing I want to do on holiday is explore; a beach holiday is perfect. It's your holiday time and you've earned it, so there should be no judgement about how you wish to spend it.

God I'd love 2 weeks on a sun lounger it's just all the other 100's of people I'd have to be around, the sun hating husband and the crazy 2 year old who likes to hurl himself into the pool spoils the plan. I need to win the lottery! Sod what anyone else thinks

If anyone said they were going on a beach holiday and lying on a sunbed for 2 weeks I would enthuse and say 'ooh that sounds fab' same as I would if they said they were going trekking in the Himalayas.

Just make the right noises. You don't have to say 'I would hate that holiday'.

It's the judgement that I don't like. "Eurgh why would you waste your money going abroad to lounge around all day by the pool? You don't need to go abroad to do that!" Er yes I do because the weather in this country is shit most of them time so if I want to lounge by a pool in the sunshine I'll go abroad and I'll enjoy every moment of it.

For the record, I like travelling holidays but I do also love relaxing for two weeks in the sun. Live and let live!

Lying on a beach for two weeks would be my idea of sheer hell but if that is what floats your boat then I couldn't care less. Do what you want.

(I'll be the one trekking through Nepal or exploring the ruins of Troy - not everyone's choice but it's my holidays not theirs)

Ah but therein lies the rub! So many people do say that.

Someone I know vaguely well visited the office this week- I asked (and was genuinely interested) about their holiday to China, I said I was going to Puerto Pollensa and they visibly scoffed!
