This is the title from a Times article today. Bloody hell. This is a shockingly high number. I find this really scary. There really needs to be some major plan rather than just more waffle from this useless Government. I just don't see how this genie can be put back in the bottle and I think things will only get worse.

Orlantina, what are your answers to your questions?

Why do you think they go off there in the first place?
What drives them?
Would it be better to prevent that in the first place?

do folk believe all they read in the media or do they practise critical thinking

Orlantina · 27/05/2017 20:51

It isn't our fault they're against our country; we shouldn't be blamed for their murderous actions

I don't know. I can easily see how some people feel alienated living in the country they are born in and want to be part of something bigger - and can easily be radicalised.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 27/05/2017 20:52

Oh, and calling people racist for expressing the truth is exactly why we have these problems in the first place, snotato.

Leanback · 27/05/2017 20:52

The Koran is no less peaceful than the Old Testament.

BMW6 · 27/05/2017 20:53

They have not committed a crime - what do you suggest is to be done?

Orlantina · 27/05/2017 20:53

Orlantina, what are your answers to your questions

What drives them?
Well - why not look at the profiles of people in jail who have been radicalised.
Look at what they've got in common.
Look at their lives and what drove them.

They often seem to have a lot in common with other people who have been radicalised and commit appalling acts of violence - including white nationalists.

PortiaCastis · 27/05/2017 20:53

There are many muslims on this site

Leanback · 27/05/2017 20:54

what it's not the truth, it's an opinion. It's not my truth.

My truth is you are being a bit racist.

DancingLedge · 27/05/2017 20:54

People who leave UK to fight in Syria face criminal trial and long terms of imprisonment on return to UK.

Orlantina · 27/05/2017 20:55

Ultra right nationalists and jihadists have a lot more in common than they think.

If there was an ultra right white army doing what ISIS are doing, I wonder how many would join up given the chance?

Power, authority, weapons and 'respect'?

user1487175389 · 27/05/2017 20:55

I'm surprised everyone's so quick to believe this figure. Sounds to me that they've just looked at the number of young British Muslims and come up with a guesstimate. What's the total number of British Muslims under 40 anyway?

user I feel it may just be the number of people who have reported to security services not the number of people they are actively monitoring.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 27/05/2017 20:56

Leanback I'll happily be called racist if it means something is done about this atrocious problem.

I'm not racist, but if it makes you feel morally superior to call me that, you go right ahead.

PortiaCastis · 27/05/2017 20:56

How do we know Im not muslim

SinglePringle · 27/05/2017 20:57

This is a fucking hideous thread.

Leanback · 27/05/2017 20:57

Oh my god...a Muslim sounding name: what the fuck have I just read.

You know hitler did that shit right?

user666999 · 27/05/2017 20:58

Jihadis are ultra right wing. Their ideology is about as conservative and supremacist as you can get.

From that article

23,000 jihadist extremists living in Britain as potential terrorist attackers, it emerged yesterdayThe scale of the challenge facing the police and security services was disclosed by Whitehall sources after criticism that multiple opportunities to stop the Manchester bomber had been missed.

About 3,000 people from the total group are judged to pose a threat and are under investigation or active monitoring in 500 operations being run by police and intelligence services.

The 20,000 others have featured in previous inquiries and are categorised as posing a “residual risk”

So 3000 pose a threat and 20,000 have featured in previous enquiries. That's a leap. How does featuring make you a Jihadi?

What does it take to get on the 'list'?

SinglePringle · 27/05/2017 20:59

The Old Testament is full of fire, brimstone, death and mutilation. Whilst there is of course the New Testament, I don't hear many Christians decrying it's existence.

Orlantina · 27/05/2017 21:00

Their ideology is about as conservative and supremacist as you can get

So I wonder how many ultra right wing UK white nationalists would be on a list?

2 sides of the same coin. Both easily radicalised. Both wanting respect, power, to be part of something bigger.

GypsieRoseLee · 27/05/2017 21:00

Oh ffs Lean 22 people were murdered by a muslim. This is definitely not the end of it. It is a major fucking problem in this country. We cannot allow one more person be allowed to be murdered by a muslim extremist. Imagine if it was your child who had been murdered!!!

PickleSarnie · 27/05/2017 21:01

All this bollocks about Islam not being a peaceful religion based on the Qur'an? Have any of you any idea of the violence advocated in the Bible? Apparently even more than the Qur'an. But, yes, go ahead and base sweeping generalisations about over 1 and a half billion people on a book you haven't read.
