AIBU to be ever so slightly annoyed that another Mum has washed my baby's bear? ?

As I was putting my DD2 (11yo) to bed this evening I passed her 'Puddin', her beloved bear.
As I did so I put him to my face to inhale him as I have done many many times (sounds strange but it's because he always smells of her and is a warm and familiar object which connects me to her since she was a baby)
But this evening as I 'sniffed ' him he smelt different, very unfamiliar.
Yesterday evening DD2 was at a friends house for a sleepover as they had an inset day today so I strongly suspect that Puddin has been washed.
Now I have no objection to the teddy being washed, but he now smells horrid and unfamiliar.
DD is being very cagey about if he was washed or not, I think to spare my feelings.
But I would never wash someone else's Bed Ted without prior arrangement.
Sounds very OTT but I'm a little put out and annoyed. He had only been washed a week ago so was not dirty. Yet now he reeks (because she has obviously used a very strongly scented detergent ) of an unfamiliar smell.
AIBU to be annoyed, because I really am feeling cross!!!

Perhaps one of the other girls did something to it? Girls on sleepovers can be mean.

Fiona1984 · 27/05/2017 08:50

Maybe it wasn't washed, the kids could have put perfume or body spray on it, maybe that's why DD is being cagey?

Good grief! I can't decide which emoticon is the most appropriate!! Hmm ConfusedGrinBearShock

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 27/05/2017 08:51

You know their dog tried to hump it right?

hippyhippyshake · 27/05/2017 08:54

Lol! This is my favourite line
But I would never wash someone else's Bed Ted without prior arrangement

I'm imagining the minutes of a Bumps n Babes meeting c. 2006 where formal arrangements were put in place. 🤣🤣

Dishwashersaurous · 27/05/2017 08:55

Most likely she split something on it and the other mum kindly washed it. At eleven possibly even bodily fluids and she's embarrassed about that

ElphabaStrop · 27/05/2017 09:15

You called your 11 yr old's bear "my baby's" and used the words "bed ted". And you sniff said bear every night?

😳😳😳 No. None of that is normal. Just rewash the bear in your usual detergent and move on.

ilovesooty · 27/05/2017 09:15

I wonder if she started her period and didn't want to tell you - with you seeing her as a little girl.

ohforfoxsake · 27/05/2017 09:16

Fucking hell OP, you got a hard time on here!

Wash the bear. It'll be back to normal.

I still have my DCs bed bears. I'll keep them for them, they'll be fond memories when they are older my 12 yo sleeps with her toy. If it makes you feel better I put my 15 and 14 yo sons to bed every night. It's a kiss and an I love you. Doesn't matter if their growled at me or muttered for me to fuck off during the day. I don't understand why people don't do that. It rights the day.

Each to their own I guess, but I'm sorry that everyone jumped in and had a go at you OP.

KittysMyName · 27/05/2017 09:21

When I first read this I totally thought your DD was 11 MONTHS! And I was still Shock Them re-read and she's 11 YEARS?? Seriously, move on, no one has been hurt, it's all ok.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2017 09:22

Your baby??

I mean, I refer to my DS1 as my baby and he's 18 but I'm doing it in a jokey manner. We laugh about it.

LondonNicki · 27/05/2017 09:29

Why does an 11 year old carry a bear around with her during the day, isn't she a bit old for that? I can understand having it in bed with her but not playing with it during the day with a frequency that requires it to be washed weekly.

Ethylred · 27/05/2017 09:33

Your daughter is cagey because she is terrified that you are going to embarrass the life out of her.

RebelRogue · 27/05/2017 09:37

After 11 years and plenty of washes(hopefully) the bear doesn't smell of her,or baby or anything.. just the detergent you use for her clothes and it. Just rewash it!! It will magically smell of "her" again.

And you inhale the smell often? That's just weird.

TealStar · 27/05/2017 09:39

Gosh.

It's your dd's cageyness that concerns me. Why does she feel unable to tell you what happened?? She's eleven years old, it's not like she's been snorting coke from Puddin's belly button.

RitaMills · 27/05/2017 09:43

I've just inhaled 'catty' who is DS bedtime teddy.... now that did smell like old trainers! He's in the washing machine now.

RancidOldHag · 27/05/2017 09:45

"Why does she feel unable to tell you what happened??"

I have a guess on that. She's a nice girl, who knows her DMum is seriously overinvested in this and so tries to hide that she's actually fine with it all.

Other explanations are available .....

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 27/05/2017 09:51

I think the above suggestion that the dog humped it is most probably what happened

ohforfoxsake · 27/05/2017 09:59

Nothing wrong with inhaling! Scents are evocative. It's a moment. Leave the OP alone and stop calling her weird just because it isn't something you would chose to do.

redshoeblueshoe · 27/05/2017 10:01

hippyhippy Grin
I agree she was probably drinking vodka and threw up on him.
I still can't get my head around an 11 year old being taken to bed

ChristopherWren · 27/05/2017 10:02

I can't believe I'm reading this....!

P1nkP0ppy · 27/05/2017 10:04

Ffs just phone the other mother and ask her why.
Talk about drama llama! Be very thankful that this is all you have to stress about.

anditwasallgoingsowell · 27/05/2017 10:05

I can't believe you like the smell of it! My DC have bears that are minging! Though they live the smell.

I wouldn't ever put them to my face to inhale Envy (that's vomit not envy!) every now and again I get away with washing them by pretending they got caught up in the sheets.

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 27/05/2017 10:14

Special Ted is lovely
