to think it's finally time England deals with its Katy Hopkins problem?

I know she feeds off publicity and the best thing really would be to ignore her until she shrivels and dies of fame starvation so I apologise for the thread but this is really too much now isn't it?

Every bloody time. I could actually go back and link to my posts after every single recent attack pointing out each time when there is a 'counter distraction' movement which attempts to move the focus from the dead. It's so transparent.

22 people are dead. But hey, what's really important is arguing about semantics on Twitter!

Mellifera · 23/05/2017 11:46

Stopped listening to LBC when she joined. They must be crazy to keep her. How James O'B copes with her being in the same building I don't know.
She's vile.

kirinm · 23/05/2017 11:46

Bit - surely deciding whether advocating genocide is crossing the line, didn't take long? Right to free speech doesn't mean right to suggest a huge number of human beings should be exterminated.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 23/05/2017 11:47

Precisely BillSykesDog!. Luckily I'm off out to a hospital appointment later so they'll have to troll hunt someone else. .

stitchglitched · 23/05/2017 11:48

Completely agree with BillSykesDog. It's happening all over twitter right now.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2017 11:48

Bollocks was it a "slip"

She is cynically continuing to construct her media persona in her appeal to the lowest common denominator of British people. She knows what her audience wants to hear and gives it to them. I suspect she doesn't actually give a flying fuck either way on the actual issues.

BuzzKillington · 23/05/2017 11:49

I think the reaction is OTT. She very foolishly used 'final', probably without thinking.

Everyone's jumped on it and she deleted it.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2017 11:50

I don't know about you- but I am capable of thinking about more than one thing at a time........

kirinm · 23/05/2017 11:50

Buzz - if you truly believe that, I feel sorry for you.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 23/05/2017 11:51

She is many things, but foolish is not one of them. And she never makes these remarks without thinking. She knew exactly what she was saying.

CrazyExIngenue · 23/05/2017 11:51

So the gist of it is, after a tragedy, much like the police are only allowed to investigate the tragedy and let other crimes go by, people must only focus on that tragedy and ignore everything else going on (that may or may not contribute to tragedies like this..)

So, is there an appropriate time frame before we can start looking at how hate speech actually adds fuel to the fire for terrorists and incites more acts like this, or should we just never talk about it? Confused

AwaywiththePixies27 · 23/05/2017 11:51

BuzzKillington I bet her lawyer has her on speed dial and she deleted it the minute they rang her! Grin

findingmyfeet12 · 23/05/2017 11:51

Bertrand totally agree.

She's preaching to the converted and has forged a career doing so.

mothertruck3r · 23/05/2017 11:52

How many people have been encouraged to commit terrorist acts in the name of Katie Hopkins or her views?

How many people have been encouraged to commit terrorist acts in the name of a a holy book (be it the Koran/Bible etc).

But nobody is calling for the second one to be banned.

hazeyjane · 23/05/2017 11:52

I don't get this. I'm mumsnetting whilst trying to organise stuff for a meeting this afternoon, listening to radio 6, doing the washing. What should I be doing? Posting about the fact KH isn't preventing some greater good occurring.

This business of "true solution" is so transparent I can believe people won't see through it. She realised she'd gone too far with "final solution" but wanted an amendment that would enable her to say that writing "final solution" was simply an unfortunate way of expressing herself and her intention was benign. The slyness and dishonesty shines out.

CrazyExIngenue · 23/05/2017 11:55

*How many people have been encouraged to commit terrorist acts in the name of a a holy book (be it the Koran/Bible etc).

Literally millions of people. Throughout history. Have called for the eradication of religion, certain books, ideology's, groups, sects.

Calling for a "final solution" is actually referring to just one of those times....

Orlantina · 23/05/2017 11:55

She's just stoking up hate and mistrust and divisiveness.

I'm not sure how she is helping fight terrorism.

CrazyExIngenue · 23/05/2017 11:57

Attempts by the right and conservatives to keep focus directly on the tragedy and not allow conversation that explores the wider issues that led to the attack are so transparent.

BillSykesDog · 23/05/2017 11:58

Hey, if you're so transparently dimwitted that a moments thought for something else takes your focus away entirely from such a big event, you can't really blame those of us able to think of multiple things on the same day, can you?

But it's not a moments thought is it? And it's not a one off. Every time there is a concerted effort to distract, minimise and deny. I don't think it's even a matter of having a 'thought' for something else. It's the fact people who peddle these distractions want it to be the only thought. They want to move the debate on back to territories where their agenda fits more comfortably.

Fibbertigibbet · 23/05/2017 12:00

Katie Hopkins should get in the sea.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 23/05/2017 12:02

Every time there is a concerted effort to distract, minimise and deny

No there isn't. It's another thing as well as the first thing.

If you are distracted, don't blame other people for having a second conversation. If you feel it is minimised, its because you are not paying attention.
And who is denying anything? What are they denying? You aren't even making sense.

She should be prosecuted

hackmum · 23/05/2017 12:05

I have no desire to prosecute Hopkins or ban her. I do, however, wonder at the mentality of a newspaper, the Mail Online, that is willing to publish someone who supports genocide.
