to think it's finally time England deals with its Katy Hopkins problem?

I know she feeds off publicity and the best thing really would be to ignore her until she shrivels and dies of fame starvation so I apologise for the thread but this is really too much now isn't it?

Oh - and the people who think Hopkins is great?

Did you hear about when she apologised for tweeting a picture of a road sign she claimed had been translated into a Middle Eastern language in Leeds. She retweeted it with her usual give me a break slant on it.

Except it was fake. She'd been trolled. And it appealed to her Islamophobic / racist views so she thought it must have been true.

And no doubt her fans would have believed it. She's a peddler of fake news.

And yes, read up on the Treaty of Versailles and it's aftermath and Weimar Germany and why people were so "easily" manipulated when looking for a strong leader to get them out of the depths of despair.
Have an enquiring rather than closed and bigoted mind.

Orlantina · 24/05/2017 21:30

WW1 and the changes in the Middle East. Britain had a massive role in that as well.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 24/05/2017 21:31

I'm bemused by anyone who, on discovering something they don;t know, doesn't just go and find out. It's quicker to read a wiki than to post on here that you don't know what it means.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 24/05/2017 21:46

During the 1980s, there was a documentary series called "The world at war". It's still repeated on Freeview. A massive series. Well worth watching as it documents the rise of the Nazis and the reality of life in Germany.

Thanks, I'll have a look for that :)

Lizzylou · 24/05/2017 21:50

Yes the Arab/Israeli war/the gradual erosion of Palestine (and the failure to stop it) is also useful.

gluteustothemaximus · 24/05/2017 22:02

Jeez. Still on this one. But Walrus, one last thing.

I did go and google final solution. I do like to educate myself, after all, the internet is 'free'.

But I was just saying, that I didn't know it until just then.

On every post, I don't go and google everything in advance before I make my post (as well as making sure I go though all 20 pages so I can make a sound educated comment). From my POV, I posted I didn't know what it meant as so many people were incredulous and saying 'how can anyone NOT know'.

I was just saying I didn't.

Also, DH didn't know. And also DS, who is currently doing WW2, also didn't know.

Rest assured, I've called them both ignorant fuckers.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 24/05/2017 22:09

It's not even the not knowing, its the posters who didn't know and then defended not knowing, as if it was as weird thing to know, and then because they didn't understand why it was a problem thought it wasn't a problem.
Don't you see the difference?

NotYoda · 24/05/2017 22:15

I am amazed that amongst all this racist drivel, I'm the one who gets deleted

Oh well

NotISaidTheWalrus · 24/05/2017 22:25

I did too. Wink

janesmom · 24/05/2017 22:30

spoiler alert

KH is a trolll but, as a lawyer, nothing that she has said even borders on a crim. offence. Simples.

Those who complain to the police about silly comments should be prosecuted for wasting police time. If you don't like it, just ignore it.

How on earth is that not obvious to any sensible individual. Oh wait... it kind of is.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 24/05/2017 22:34

I really hope you're not a lawyer.

you're obviously not

Orlantina · 24/05/2017 22:40

If you don't like it, just ignore it

The problem with people like Hopkins and papers like the Daily Mail and the Sun is that people say "just ignore them"

The thing is - many people don't. Many people listen to hear and as she says what they want to hear, they believe everything and are often influenced by their words. It all just confirms what they think.

Should we ignore her? Or call her out and call papers like the DM out when they cross a line?

"Final solution" "Enemies of the people" "cockroaches"

If you're not at all sure why people get upset over those words, then Google them.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 25/05/2017 00:56

www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/05/24/we-need-a-final-solution-british-columnist-tweets-then-deletes-after-manchester-bombing/

The stupid cow thinks "these people" should be deported. To where exactly would we deport British born terrorists to?

BeeThirtythree · 25/05/2017 02:47

Wow! Amazed this is still going despite the racist terms used in some posts.
Katie Hopkins is a lady who says exactly what she thinks...which she did, then deleted! She knew the reaction it would cause and judging by the amount of posts, it worked. Katie got the publicity!
The Manchester attacks also got publicity, the proud Mancunians who pulled together in the aftermath got publicity. More than one thing gets publicity...just like more than one thing can be abhorrent and cause anger.
I am angry at the idiot who killed these innocent people. Angry that he claimed to be Muslim, as in Islam if you kill one person it is as though you killed the whole of humanity. Angry at the IS dickheads who also claim to be Muslim.
If a drunk driver crashed a car, would you blame the manufacturer?
No? IS are the non rule following idiots who cause havoc but Islam, who the second largest religion, gets the blame!
Squirreltrap et al, I can address your other issues but briefly, No, the status of women in Islam in not equal to men...women are greater! In Islam that is, not that misinterpretation that some cultures follow! In ye olde 'Islamic world' women were independent traders, who earned and owned their own money and have a duty to be looked after by their father/husband/brother...while these laws and morals you speak of had women labelled as 'chattel' that could be bought and sold as they belonged to men- See, it's all about how you present things, words are powerful. Yet, we are arguing about Muslims going to Nando's for Halal meat??!!
Yeah, 'cause Muslims don't pay for chicken! No, forget the Black card, the 'brown card' works better! Paying for Halal chicken means that restaurant stays open, it contributes to the economy, it means rents are paid on businesses and taxes and all that stuff that benefits us! Oh and Muslims can only be brown...my husband is a myth apparently so are rest of the white/other Muslim population...I wonder if they were included when Squirreltrap spoke to ALL Muslims?! Or the 5 Muslims who have been awarded Nobel peace prize?
Sorry OP for the off topic!
Katie is just one person though! Sometimes the words of one person can cause a lot of damage, If you know your history OP ;), you'll know that it only took one man to brainwash a multitude into committing uncomprehendable acts against an entire religion... be careful strikethrough whose what words you use!

BeeThirtythree · 25/05/2017 02:56

Apologies for the spelling/typos and grammatical errors... Alas, the fault is my sleep deprived self not my failed schooling! Grin

makeourfuture · 25/05/2017 06:08

I found the Mail's treatment of the Supreme Court judges, during the Article 50 case, very disconcerting.

ShoesHaveSouls · 25/05/2017 07:07

I'm still staggered that so many don't know what the final solution was. But then I thought, a lot of people maybe just shut off a bit, and deliberately don't read/listen to stuff about the holocaust - because it is such an upsetting topic, obviously.

But I'm sorry, all this "don't call me ignorant just because I don't know something!" is silly. That's what ignorant means. If you're happily admitting you've never heard of the final solution, you are by definition, ignorant of it.

I'm still staggered though - I mean there are so many books, films, tv programmes on this. One was even called "Auschwitz, the Nazis and the Final Solution". It's played endlessly on the BBC and the History channel.

It's relevant today - the "never forget" or "lest we forget" was coined for a reason. Because even in a civilised country, othering and demonising a group of people for their religion led to mass, industrialised murder. It happened. It could happen again given the right circumstances.

Charlieismydarlin · 25/05/2017 07:08

I have just read KH's contribution to today's Daily Mail and agree with every single word.

She speaks the truth and represents how many feel.

But go ahead and stick "keep calm and carry on" on your FB page.

Charlieismydarlin · 25/05/2017 07:09

And shoes no one - I repeat no one - is wanting that.

What we want is for extremists, living in the country, now to be dealt with. You ought be happy to live like this but most of us simply are not.

LadyinCement · 25/05/2017 07:17

I simply don't understand how there are 33 pages of thread about Katy Hopkins. Yes, she says some stuff. Yes, some of it is reprehensible.

We have individuals who have murdered concert goers including children. People are blaming the security services, Theresa May, even indirectly the concert goers themselves as they had "collective responsibility" as one poster put it.

All bile should be directed at the perpetrators of this crime.

Charlieismydarlin · 25/05/2017 07:25

It's bloody laughable!

"Let's censor KH!" "Sack the head of M15!"

But we must continue to let hate against us flourish cos that is respect, like, for other'/ beliefs.

Jesus bloody wept.

mimishimmi · 25/05/2017 07:26

Orlantina There are people who want to believe propaganda though and for whom hate is a coping mechanism for their own bleak prospects..

Charlieismydarlin · 25/05/2017 07:29

Does "propaganda" mean the normalising of terrorism in Europe?
