to think it's finally time England deals with its Katy Hopkins problem?

I know she feeds off publicity and the best thing really would be to ignore her until she shrivels and dies of fame starvation so I apologise for the thread but this is really too much now isn't it?

This is an adult, educated and polticially active woman.

There is no way she didn't know.

And any decent person that didn't know would apologise for this... Instead of reposting the same tweet, changing only one word of it.

But as I said, I'm not particularly upset about vile shitlords like KH (I may get deleted for this).

I'm upset about people forgetting history or just not caring enough about it to be upset.

Riversleep · 23/05/2017 18:32

I can't fathom either how someone who has been through an education system does not know what the 'final solution' was. She definitely knew what it was. She's a fascist. It's what fascists believe. She didn't happen to come across a phrase used by the Nazi's when they were trying to exterminate Jews from the planet. On the other hand, we have just had Sean Spicer being completely ignorant to another Nazi 'philosophy', that German Jews were not German. I can believe he is ignorant more than than Hopkins though.

floatingfrog · 23/05/2017 18:33

Yes inkypink

Orlantina · 23/05/2017 18:33

I worry where this will all end. I am glad we don't live in a country which has easy access to guns because I fear that there are people who will take out their anger on others who they see to blame for this. History shows us what happens in a country when that happens - when groups are blamed. When the seeds of division are sown.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 18:34

Orlantina

But that's why people need guns! To protect themselves from states trying to enact the final solution or other crimes.

littlemissangrypants · 23/05/2017 18:36

No mosques are not safe as they are being fire bombed. People are angry and they need to hurt someone but hurting random muslims will not bring those poor kids back.
How many synagogue do you think were fire bombed in germany? How many jewish people do you think were hurt and mistreated before the final solution?
Wanting random muslims to be punished for the actions of the few will not end well.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 23/05/2017 18:38

I've been through school, college and university and didn't know what "final solution" referred to.

As a pp said, Katie Hopkins went to Sandhurst. She definitely knew what it meant. There is no excuse for what she said or the sentiment behind it. Opinions like that only create more division and alienation, which drives more disillusioned, disenfranchised young men and women right into the clutches of extremism.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2017 18:43

The people saying "something must be done"

What, exactly? I have no idea how to stop these bastards. Do you?

Screwinthetuna · 23/05/2017 18:47

Feedtheshark

Because in International Baccalaureate History, it was taught as Endlösung der Judenfrage. This is translated as 'end solution to the Jewish problem.' That's 'what the fuck' British schools are teaching. It was not taught as 'final solution' at all, so get off your rude, high horse.

Orlantina · 23/05/2017 18:48

I think I do feel passionate about people like Hopkins who do attack and label whole groups of people - especially at moments of high tension like this - because I've seen the effects of it - and it started at a young age in Cyprus. A country torn with tension and we there just after the Turkish invasion. We went on a school trip to a village that had been abandoned - and were shown a mortar round that had killed a child my age. Hate tore that island apart.

I've also been to Auschwitz and other camps - and seen the effect the propoganda and othering of a community has.

We need to tackle terrorism in this country and around the world. No one wants to see events like last night. No parent anywhere in the world wants to see their children killed. Yet that's what's happening around the world at the moment.

I don't know what the answer is. There is so much conflict in the world. Yemen, Syria, Ukraine to name some.

Fliptophead · 23/05/2017 18:54

Bertrand, you and others on here are determined to believe that she is calling for the genocide of all Muslims, so there seems little point in engaging further.

And whyever would we imply that? Hmm

OP posts:
twattymctwatterson · 23/05/2017 18:57

Completely gobsmacked that there are so many apparent adults here quite happily owning up to not understanding the significance of the term "Final Solution". Honestly the ignorance is incredible

Fliptophead · 23/05/2017 18:58

Frankly I think the decent person would reserve their ire for the terrorists and their supporter^

And yet here you are insulting people for thinking calls to genocide are a bit off

zeezeek · 23/05/2017 19:00

You don't actually need to have studied history at school to know what the final solution meant. You just need to have been an averagely intelligent human being who is aware of the world around them.

Being angry at people who incite violence and hatred is a reasonable thing to feel. Attacks come and go, but these people will continue to spread their insidiously messages when what has happened in Manchester last night falls off the front pages.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 19:02

Screw !
Yes, I know. I am aware of the German term. Die Endlösung der Judenfrage oder einfach "Endlösung". A German dialect is one of my first languages. So yes, you trying to lecture me on the origin of this word is quite hilarious. I learned English when I was a teenager and still knew what KH's tweet meant.

My rude, high horse is because people like you have continued to defend her tweet. "Maybe she didn't know"...

I'm on a rude, high horse because you were ignorant or thoughtless enough to post this:
YABU. I agree with her. Sick to the back teeth of the PC brigade silencing everyone and people censoring everything they say incase they are perceived as racist.

And then... "oh no, I didn't know you were talking about what's mentioned in the link of the OP, I thought you were talking abou the DM article."

Deflection, justification, more deflection.

And I somewhat doubt that all the people agreeing with her tweet simply didn't know the English term für die Endlösung der Judenfrage. But ok, if that's what you want to believe.

Crabcanon · 23/05/2017 19:03

When someone uses the term The Final Solution, whatever their intention, it will provoke outrage. As a phrase it is just so loaded, that even if she did mean we should stamp out Islamic extremism, it is open to interpretation and people will take offence. Worse, some people who agree with her will ramp up their feelings of hatred against an entire race. And when that happens, it never ends well.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 19:04

And anyhow, if KH is, like you, simply too educated to know the English term... I imagine a decent person with the "right ideas and opinions" would be horrified about having, accidentally, used such a horrible and offensive term used to describe 3rd Reich policy towards Jews.

What about... Idk, a nice little tweet explaining that she herself isn't a nazi and simply didn't know?

NSEA · 23/05/2017 19:05

I only got to page 2 of this. But ai have to say it really saddens me how ignornat people are to history and the leasons that should be learned from Hitlers final solution that they don't understand how awful it is that she said there. Regardless of whether or not she should be reported to the police.

Ladyvird135 · 23/05/2017 19:07

Disgusting woman. The same one that called migrants 'cockroaches'. She's turning more and more in to a Nazi with frightening regularity, and even more frighteningly with a platform.

Crabcanon · 23/05/2017 19:09

I'm on a rude, high horse because you were ignorant or thoughtless enough to post this:
YABU. I agree with her. Sick to the back teeth of the PC brigade silencing everyone and people censoring everything they say incase they are perceived as racist.

This. You just cannot say what she said and not to be perceived as racist. Whether that is someone intention or not, once you mention The Final Solution to an entire religion, it's racist. The final solution wiped out a lot of my family. I absolutely cannot condone what KH said because it's vile. And yes I am in despair about what happened last night and the lives wiped out and other lives ruined.

RubyGoat · 23/05/2017 19:11

KH is an absolute disgrace, & not just about this. I suspect she knew exactly what she was doing when she posted that tweet. But if she didn't, she's no business writing a column in a national paper anyway as she's evidently too ignorant of recent history to be allowed in a position of influence. Either way she needs sacking - she won't be though. She'll wriggle out of it again. IMHO.

Fliptophead · 23/05/2017 19:12

Today 17:08 Fortnum

Hopkins isnt causing it ! How foolish ! She is howling at the moon in frustration. If your 8 year old was maimed or died in agony how would you feel ? We knew this was coming. These people hate us - they will always hate us. Im talking about roughly 10-15 % of the UK muslim population. Im angry. Im angry that i cant take my daughter to a concert without the threat of this. Im angry that the rest of the muslim population arent outing these extremists from their own communities

1/5 of women get sexually assaulted in this country and 100 women die from male violence a year. What are you do doing to end British male violence?

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2017 19:12

Well said littlemissangrypants
People are not trying to minimise 22 people dying, they are trying to point out that someone who is in the public eye should not be fanning the flames of escalating hatred for muslims and foreigners in this country by publicly calling for muslims to be rounded up and gassed to death.
It wasn't an inadvertent error of a couple of words, that is what KH was suggesting.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 23/05/2017 19:15

You just need to have been an averagely intelligent human being who is aware of the world around them.

Hmm don't be a dickhead about it.

As I say, I've been to school, college and uni, so I'd say I'm averagely intelligent. I also think I'm aware of the world around me, including the atrocities committed by the Nazis.

I've never seen or heard it referred to as the Final Solution. Calling people ignorant for not knowing the exact name of something, despite understanding the concept, is immensely twattish.

Orlantina · 23/05/2017 19:21

Maybe she didn't know the term "Final solution" and its link to the Holocaust

Maybe she didn't know the word "cockroach" and how it was used during the genocide in Rwanda.

Maybe she should read her history and read about how language has been used to demonise groups.

But I think she knows.
