To ask you to name the best hotel you've ever stayed in?

I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

Presume the recommendations for the W in New York aren't for the midtown one - I was very underwhelmed by it.

mynotsohumbleopinion · 23/05/2017 09:49

Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok or the Four Seasons in Amman...

Pradaqueen · 23/05/2017 12:04

Well I' going to live stream from the Royal Mansour in Marrakech right now and tell you that this is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at (including Amans). I might never go to Dubai again (or indeed go home Grin) and come here instead. Totally amazing.

Cutesbabasmummy · 23/05/2017 12:15

Hilton Hotel and Spa, Mauritius. Absolutely beautiful, wonderful food, staff who knew you by name and nothing was too much trouble. It was my honey moon....

I'd also add I am child free on this trip so actually everything is better when you are not obliged to watch diving 'how's this one, Mummy?' Or stopping reading to order yet another drink/sandwich etc Grin

we don't often stay in hotels preferring apartments or houses so we have plenty of room, especially when travelling with the children who are now older and don't want to share a room with us.

Hotel/complex wise you cant beat the Soho House group. Farm house in Oxfordshire and Beach House Miami stick out in particular. Amazing rooms/chalets/suites, the best service ever nothing is too much bother and they genuinely appear that way, not false at all. Down to sieving my orange juice, despite me insisting not to, because it had bits in and I only drink smooth orange juice. Blush

Huge walk in showers, attentive staff on the beach in Miami, fab pool at farm house, I'm told the gym is amazing but I didn't try it, I was too busy relaxing. Gorgeous court yard at farm house with a deli for leisurely lunch with a bottle of wine, cowshed spa. I could go on.

the other that I really liked in the uk, which again stands out more for the amazing staff than the hotel itself is the hotel du vin in Cheltenham. Wasn't that impressed with Cheltenham in fact we found very little to do so forced relaxation. But despite the ubiquitous bath in the bedroom, the showers were fab, the bed comfortable and the cocktails were great.

It has a small cigar hut in the grounds, which is supposed to be the smoking area but when we were there it was empty so was a lovely place to go and sit on the evening with the fire on and soft blankets to keep you warm and chat and just enjoy the child free time.

like others the hotels in Dubai are out of this world but they left me cold as I didn't like Dubai as a place and wouldn't visit again.

The Ritz in Singapore and The Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Hotel Spagna in Rome and the Ritz and New York Palace in NY. In Bali - Bulgaria hotel and spa is pretty awesome

RoseandVioletcreams · 23/05/2017 14:07

navy we have been recommended that hotel by some friends. It's likely to be our holiday destination for 2019. Is it as good as they say, then?

I think it looks really manicured and contrived but then I do live in a country where palm trees and beautiful beaches are as mother nature intended and it may be colouring my views.

Have you ever thought of Diani Beach in Mombassa? I go to Mombassa often to visit family and Diani beach is far better than any of the places I've been to in the Seychelles for e.g..

MaQueen · 23/05/2017 22:04

Fraid, I'm a total princess and like my holiday venue very manicured Wink

But, I have never heard much about Mombassa? Will check it out Smile

Ta navy it's always good to get a personal recommendation. We'll be going with friends who want to return for sentimental reasons. They've already said they want to break the journey in Dubai.

Hotel Costes in Paris was nice.
Hufaven Fushi in Maldives, not sure if that counts as a hotel or a resort.
Am also partial to the W in Miami.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 23/05/2017 22:22

Raffles in Singapore is pretty special. You get your own butler who will sort out anything & everything you could ever think of. You get a suite of rooms, not just one. Hotel guests get complimentary Singapore Slings upstairs at the Long Bar. I loved every second.

Notadacrefan · 23/05/2017 22:22

@ssd, consider it like Rightmove and property porn.

I've eaten at one of these restaurants, in the days before kids, when I had a disposable income. Never stayed at any of the hotels. I shall live vicariously through others. Grin
