I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

Madbengalmum · 21/05/2017 20:51

Would be a toss up between the Burj al Arab and Raffles Singapore.

It was stunning.

Corinthia in Lisbon was gorgeous. Queens hotel in Leeds was also fab. Stayed in a lovely country hotel outside Florence as well which was beautiful though in the middle of nowhere.

Most disappointing was one outside Stratford upon Avon. Was in Alastair Sawday book as a recommended stay. The room were based on Cluedo characters. We were in Prof. plum but the decor was like a reality BBC1 makeover programme. So disappointed

Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong (many years ago now), and Le Manoir Aux' Quatre Saisons in Oxfordshire.

Burgh Island Hotel in Devon, beautiful Art Deco hotel with bags of history, fantastic staff and a private bar in the local pub!

fanfrickintastic · 21/05/2017 20:59

Grange St Pauls in London, the curtains were like duvets so the room was pitch black and silent at night. Bliss.

Golden Bell in Chiang Mai was lovely - independent and tucked away but lovely.

Yes Banyan Tree in Bangkok
Weston on the Bund in Shanghai

^This - one of my very favourite places

ShinyGirl · 21/05/2017 21:02

The Sleve Donard in Newcastle Northern Ireland. So relaxing and comfortable. Food is great. Quite pricy tho, but nice for a treat!

Bikini 24 in Berlin, overlooks the zoo and the Wardolf Astoria in New York

The Copacabana Palace in Rio - we were upgraded to a suite, was out of this world. The service was amazing! One woman was doing laps of the outdoor pool and a butler was walking by the side of the pool at her pace holding an umberella type thing over her so she was shaded from the sun.
When we went out at night there would be treats waiting for us when we came back to the room - champagne, strawberries and cream etc.

Gleneagles near Perth in Scotland - been here lots as my work used to hold incentive weekends here. The top sales people for the quarter would get a weekend here with a meal in a private dining room. They really made a fuss of us as company spent a lot of money with them.
Have been on my own too and the service was just as good tbh.

Grand Floridian Hotel in Disney World, Orlando - just amazing. Totally spoiled.

Loads more but those are my absolute favorites

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/05/2017 21:05

Parador Leon Saint Marcos, gorgeous, historic building.
Worst well there's loads of those, cheapest price possible for work!
One where the staff ( of one) went home for the night leaving me locked in the hotel and having to exit via the flat roof and a stack of pallets in the morning. Another where fire alarm went off and it became apparent that nobody other than guests were on the premises leaving me and white van man from another room to check for smoke, locate the alarm panel and turn it off. Basement room in the Green Isle Dublin with no heating in the middle of winter...

The Residence, Tunis (Tunisia)

I just loved the ambience they created, with jazz music in the background.

ElinorRigby · 21/05/2017 21:10

Llangoed Hall - not far from Hay on Wye.

barfotoliv · 21/05/2017 21:10

Check out the Sukothai hotel in Bangkok. Or for a quirkier option, Shanghai Mansion.

WhoisthisHans · 21/05/2017 21:10

Tigerlily in Edinburgh
The Wynn in Vegas
Celebrity Solstice (not a hotel, but a cruise ship...)
