Dh won't let me put a Labour poster up in the window.

He is a Labour voter. But he doesn't want the neighbours knowing how we vote, as it's none of their business.

I did say I could put a note on it saying 'not DH' but he still said no.

He's a very private person generally to be fair, but usually lets me get my own way and he won't budge on this one.

WIBU to put it up during the day and take it down again before he comes home everyday?

Yes, you would be unreasonable. Voting is a persona thing and not everyone wants their veiws put out in full view of people they don't know.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 20/05/2017 18:52

green

We don't usually put posters up but ds1 has just joined a party and they popped round to see if he would like to help with the election and put a posters up

Dh was not the happiest but its staying up

Funnily enough a neighbor has just asked us if we can get one for them

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 20/05/2017 18:52

Why do you want to put a poster up?

I like Green Day but don't hang a poster of them in the window.

It serves no purpose, won't sway any voters and may cause conflict. I have a street on my estate that I call Brexit Street because of their love of posters.

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 18:52

Even if I put a big 'not DH' sticker on it? I thought that was pretty reasonable of me.

I want it up because we live in Toryville and I want to annoy the neighbours, obviously.

Then that makes it seem like he is not voting Labour. Which may also be information he doesn't want signposted to the world- particularly as it doesn't happen to be true. I think you should respect his right to privacy.

ExplodedCloud · 20/05/2017 18:56

He's a big meanie Grin
Mine is up.
So is the one dd made.

Dishwashersaurous · 20/05/2017 18:56

Last election I had a labour poster stuck to the side of the buggy, it was my own mini battle bus.

You could put the poster in your car, or wear a large badge

londonrach · 20/05/2017 18:56

Completely understand. Voting is personal. Seriously op...You really think labour under him could win? This is the worst election ever as no choice...labour about to self explode, libs have vanished..,we need a strong opposition party! Theres not a single poster where i live as its a complete none election!

piglover · 20/05/2017 18:56

My lifelong Labour-voting granny always put up a Tory poster in her window just to throw others off the scent about her private voting habits.

Intransige · 20/05/2017 18:58

This sounds similar to my DH. He keeps threatening to buy a life-sized Jeremy Corbyn cardboard figure for our front garden as we are in a very Tory area.

I think he's joking... Hmm

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 18:58

I might just put a big sign up saying 'VOTE' actually. Just so I feel like I'm doing SOMETHING.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/05/2017 18:59

No, it's embarrassing.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 20/05/2017 18:59

My DCs school is in Toryville, I had do a double take this week when walking up the street to see the sea of Tory Posters, the big massive flag type ones in the gardens.

I live on Brexit street and similar window posters have popped up.

Neither of the above have swayed how I'm going to vote or made me thing about egging peoples windows Wink

Sorry OP. I'm with your DH on this one. It's a personal choice, none of your neighbours business and your windows will stay egg free Grin

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 18:59

I don't get why it's embarrassing?

I can see how a life size JC could be though. Not gonna lie, I love that idea.

OP posts:
Dishwashersaurous · 20/05/2017 19:01

Maybe a massive poster of a suffragette, to remind women to vote. Because women are still less likely to vote than men despite generally having more interaction with the state.

And yes it probably won't make any difference but maybe one person will remember to vote

PickAChew · 20/05/2017 19:01

It's not like having a labour poster in your windows would persuade anyone to abandon their existing political tendencies.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:01

I had this conversation with my dp fairly recently. We were asked to put a garden board up. There are Tory boards everywhere we are but he is unsure. I have my tiny Labour poster, I'm going to put that up and he's ok with that. And he did say he'd help me deliver leaflets Smile

ExplodedCloud · 20/05/2017 19:02

You could borrow my dad Green. He looks more like JC (if he takes his glasses off) than the Last Leg' s JC.

GiraffeorOcelot · 20/05/2017 19:07

I think it's a very personal thing and would be livid if DH put up a similar poster (of any party).

Politics is such an emotive issue, I know how I will vote and I know that it is a different main party than some of my friends. People feel very strongly about these things and I do not want to get into deep discussion where one of us could be offended or to risk the friendship over it.

Ameliablue · 20/05/2017 19:08

Yabu

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 20/05/2017 19:12

Tbf I stopped putting posters up when I was 14 Grin

I don't see what it achieves - is someone going to look at your poster and think 'ooh yes I think I will change my vote'?

NotAnotherUserName5 · 20/05/2017 19:13

It's a bit cringe. I really don't like it when people try to shove it in your face how they are voting. It doesn't serve any purpose. Yabu

newtlover · 20/05/2017 19:13

YANBU, you have every right to put up a poster!
The reason for doing it is to counteract this myth that 'no one is going to vote labour.....(so I won't)'
If you are thinking that way but then see other people around you ARE going to vote labour then maybe you will too.
Though a poster saying 'vote' is also a good idea.

Bluntness100 · 20/05/2017 19:14

Just so I feel like I'm doing SOMETHING

Well you'll certainly be doing something, namely embarrassing yourself and your husband. 😂

A poster in your window is as chavtastic as it gets. Maybe you could put it up in your bedroom next to one of your favourite boy band?
