He is a Labour voter. But he doesn't want the neighbours knowing how we vote, as it's none of their business.

I did say I could put a note on it saying 'not DH' but he still said no.

He's a very private person generally to be fair, but usually lets me get my own way and he won't budge on this one.

WIBU to put it up during the day and take it down again before he comes home everyday?

You'd be brave to put any poster on your windows round here.
It's an invitation for someone to put your windows through.
People get very emotional during election times.
I can remember the Thatcher posters, you couldn't move for glass Grin

rale124 · 20/05/2017 22:18

Ravenblack its very similar to pretty much every class analysis put forward by economists across the world.

Yes that is probably because they are under the highly skilled list. For example someome welding nuclear reactors for a living could easily earn 40k PA where as someome welding garden fences for a living would be lucky to earn signifcantly above minimum wage.

I'm sorry that you consider economics to be offensive, but thats your problem not mine.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 20/05/2017 22:22

Underclass: People out of work due to illness or unemployment or other reason. Under 17k PA.

Ah. That's nice to know I'm underclass. Bugger! That means I can't bag Prince Harry now! Hmm

Can we clarify something though, I was already working a month after I finished school and worked for years before, and even when I was a single parent, right up until the point my health no longer allowed it. So have I fell a class or something? I feel like I need to know for sure, so I can make other people aware in case they're frightened they might catch poor of me.

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 22:22

Calling people underclass is awful!!!!!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/05/2017 22:25

it was a very popular thing to do in the 80's as it was a very political time

it is now but I have seen few posters up

I am waiting for those canvasing for Labour to come round I have had notice they are in the area this week

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 20/05/2017 22:26

Ooo, I'm underclass.

Just worked out my wage as 15K a year.

Should I not vote? Surely as the underclass mine will get chucked in the bin?

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 22:26

Your first post bluntness said the poster would be embarrassing her husband by putting a poster up. You said that it was the equivalent of following a boy band. You asked why people do it. I answered. If you still don't get it I can't explain anymore. And I just think your being purposefully obtuse.

rale124 · 20/05/2017 22:27

whattodoaboutthis2017

Your misunderstanding what a class analysis is. It is an economic analysis of how different groups of people contribute to the productivity of the country not a moral judgement. I was raised in an underclass single parent family on disability benefits, do you really think id put it forward if it was a moral judgement?

I disagree with that actors and comedians are valued more than people who risk serious injury or death constructing and maintaining the countries infrastructure and defending the country from our enemies whoever they may be. However that is not my decision.

chocolatespiders · 20/05/2017 22:29

My mum has been and raided labour offices this week for posters and car stickers!
She always puts them up!

Go for it Smile

rale124 · 20/05/2017 22:31

Underclass is not my word, its one been used for describing the class of people either unable or unwilling to be economically productive.

Swedish economist Gunnar Myrdal is generally attributed as the creator of the term so take it up with him not me.

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 22:31

Joffers I've read your posts and kinda know what you do.
You're worth a lot more than that and please don't call yourself underclass because without people like you and others in your line of work where would we all be.

ExplodedCloud · 20/05/2017 22:31

Ah well, if nothing else it'll save any other parties the effort of canvassing us.

Ravenblack · 20/05/2017 22:42

@RALE Please do show us some links that back up what you say. Seeing as you clearly know SO much more than me about all these economics and suchlike, you should have no problem coming up with proof of all your claims.. And don't bang on about other countries; we are on about the UK.

Many people do not have paid employment, (Stay at home mums for example.) When I see the vicar's wife at the little corner store tomorrow, I am sure she will be DELIGHTED to hear she is underclass because she has no job and earns no money herself.

And the same to the gentleman who lives near me who worked in middle management in environmental health for 25 years, but had to go on disability allowance 5 years ago due to having chronic MS. I shall tell him that he is underclass too.

Same for the lovely lady who lives 2 miles me who has a little smallholding that she runs with her husband, and they live off the land, and have 3 dozen farm animals. Neither one has a job. Also underclass I presume?!

Ravenblack · 20/05/2017 22:44

@portia. Joffers didn't call herself underclass. RALE is saying she is with that silly 'class list,' that says anyone earning under 17 grand a year is classed as the underclass. Pretty awful thing to say.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 20/05/2017 22:46

I was joking.

That weird BBC class calculator thing said I was 'established middle class'.

But I kind of ignore the class system. It seems a bit pointless.

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 22:47

Yes I'm disgusted

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/05/2017 22:48

Labour area here.

No Labour posters up. Seen a few Tory and Lib Dem ones.

Had info from Torys and LibDems. Nothing from Labour.

This is a seat that could go on June 8th. It's like Labour can't be bothered to try and retain it.

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 22:49

Joffers I realise you were joking 😂 but I meant it when I said we need folk like you

Do people still do the door = political party because I really want my next front door to be purple.

Other posters have said no one does that any more but I'm still worried about being branded a Kipper.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 20/05/2017 23:04

Mine is a burgundy colour

Reddish...

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 20/05/2017 23:04

As long as its not purple and yellow

rale124 · 20/05/2017 23:26

Ravenblack

YES all underclass aside from the farm couple depending on whether they are earning via enterprise of selling farm products. Although to be fair people who own signifcant assets such as property wouldn't generally be considered underclass anyway. Underclass is generally people who cannot survive without government assistance.

Get a grip you sound like an uppity prat taking offence because your ignorantly taking economic analysis as some sort of moral judgement.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underclass have a read through there to start with.

There is absolutely no need to get all sanctimonious and pretend offended over someone using well established social science terminology. Especially considering I have already said I come from that background myself. Please for the love of god get your ignorant arse some books.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 20/05/2017 23:32

Meh. That wiki page doesn't mention unemployment due to illness or earnings.

It does have a nice list of 'characteristics' of the underclass which includes 'female-led households'. So independent women, women bravely bring up children alone, widows and lesbians?

Oh, how forward thinking...
Grin

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 23:53

Rale I do think you've missed the point about underclass.

I'm laying in bed in the house I own, belly full of nice food, cashmere bed socks firmly on. I might be ill and unemployable but I don't fit any of the definitions of underclass according to your wiki link.

Perhaps you'd like to read a book and educate yourself...?
