He is a Labour voter. But he doesn't want the neighbours knowing how we vote, as it's none of their business.

I did say I could put a note on it saying 'not DH' but he still said no.

He's a very private person generally to be fair, but usually lets me get my own way and he won't budge on this one.

WIBU to put it up during the day and take it down again before he comes home everyday?

To be honest I don't understand the reluctance to talk about politics in this country. I am a Labour party member but some of my closest friends vote in other ways. If you believe in it, stand up for it. Nothing wrong in nailing your colours to the mast. I'm more concerned with people who don't vote at all. I have read so much bullshit on here about how it's my right not to vote. In my opinion that viewpoint is undermining democracy.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:18

Chavistic Confused. It's the future of our country!

AuntieStella · 20/05/2017 19:18

I think it WBVU to put up a poster unless all people of voting age who live there agree.

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 19:19

chavistic what a silly word!!!

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 19:19

I think we had about 30% turnout here in the last GE. Tories won by a country mile, with UKIP in second.

I'd love to get more people voting.

Why advertise a party led by an alledged IRA sympathiser.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:20

It's young people who need to be persuaded. The future is theirs.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:21

It's alleged, hth

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 20/05/2017 19:21

I agree with him... why? It wouldn't persuade me to vote labour if I saw it so what purpose does it serve?

topcat2014 · 20/05/2017 19:21

Anyone remember Adrian Mole? If I recall, his mother put a labour poster up, and father a tory poster.

Grandma Mole did not approve of either, if memory serves.

newtlover · 20/05/2017 19:22

chavtastic, .....really?
do you really see politics as equivalent to a teenage crush?
is it in poor taste to care about the people who are going to be even more fucked over if we get another tory government?
I think that kind of attitude is embarrassing.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:22

Oh yes topcoat Grin the genius of Sue Townsend

ExplodedCloud · 20/05/2017 19:23

There's a big house in a main road near us with an estate agent style board up with the shiny cheeked Tory MP on it. My little poster pales in comparison.

Ames33 · 20/05/2017 19:23

Could you put your name on, for example:
'Xxxx's voting labour'
I'm putting one up. My DH said if I did he would put a Tory poster next to it (he's not Tory!)
He most certainly will not put a Tory poster up!!

PortiaCastis · 20/05/2017 19:26

My dds a new voter and has a labour poster in her bedroom window

Bluntness100 · 20/05/2017 19:27

chavtastic, .....really?do you really see politics as equivalent to a teenage crush?

I see putting a poster up in your window as the equivalent, yes. Except slightly more embarrassing. Irrelevant of your politics, a poster in your window is beyond ridiculous.

Exactly what purpose does it serve, other than to shout to people uou "luffs" them. And just like the boy band poster, do you really think it will convince people to vote labour? Or love the boy band?

Really?

SummerMummy88 · 20/05/2017 19:28

Put it up, it's half your home too! tell him I'll have these two windows you have those two if he's going to be silly about something you want to do. An alternative is put it in your car window.

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 19:30

I don't drive.

I might buy a red 'Vote Labour' top and start wearing that everywhere Grin

camtt · 20/05/2017 19:31

I let my DH have his Labour board, even though I felt a little exposed because although I would tell people in RL how I intend to vote, I don't normally advertise it to all who pass. And I'm voting Lib Dem not labour - not that either will have a hope here in tory-land, we've had a by-election since Brexit and even though this was a remain constituency (by a small margin of about 2% - oh sorry, forgot that's actually a resounding victory) good old tory returned again.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 20/05/2017 19:31

I think it is really weird to put one up. I remember the days when people didn't even talk about who they voted for, now there are posters in windows .

Chavtastic made me laugh. Reminded me of when someone posted ''Chavalanche'' Grin

Natsku · 20/05/2017 19:31

Voting is personal and the right to a secret ballot is sacred but you also have the right to advertise your own choices if you want so that is a tough one. I think if you can't reach a compromise then just a poster encouraging people to vote in general is at least something you can do. I like the idea of putting a poster up of a suffragette to remind women how hard fought our right to vote was, and that we shouldn't take it for granted.

intheknickersoftime · 20/05/2017 19:34

Bluntness, it's to get people engaged in politics and thinking about who they'd vote for. Its not about being a die hard fan, it's saying this is how I want my country to be. I believe in this. Whatever your political persuasion. And generally speaking it's the ordinary people of this country who put Labour posters up. Because the Tories have got it covered with massive billboards everywhere. So the Labour party has to have that visibility. That's democracy. That's saying you have a choice, you can find out what it all means, not right it off with a shrug and say they're all the same. Because if we do that we hand over our rights and freedoms. I truly believe that. So be a dear and start thinking outside the box a bit.

ForthemanyNotthefew · 20/05/2017 19:35

Chavtastic?

How delightful you sound.

HammerToFall · 20/05/2017 19:35

DH didn't want me to put a labour poster up so I've stuck it in the back window of my car!!

BertrandRussell · 20/05/2017 19:36

If you want to put it up, put it up.
