To be scared about the outcome of the election?

There have been so many attacks on disabled people, the NHS and public services. I am just scared that there will be even more after the election, if the Conservatives get in. It is seriously scary.

Get a grip. No-one is 'attacking' anyone. This kind of hysterical invective puts me right off listening to a person's argument

I dont think they are referring to on the thread lalegue

I think they are referring to real life attacks

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/05/2017 09:26

Sorry i realise the opening post is saying attackes but people have also referred to real life attacks

Smile should have clarified my meaning in my first post

brasty · 16/05/2017 10:11

I don't get disability benefits, got turned down for PIP and was too ill at the time to cope with appealing.
I am a frequent user of the NHS. It has got worse. I used to get things for free that I now pay for. So please don't tell me the NHS is safe with the Conservatives. It is not.

If the Conservatives wanted to scrap the NHS they would have done it in the Thatcher era. The NHS needs a complete overhaul not more money thrown at it. Labour are not competent to do the work needed.

In the event of a win for Momentum the NHS will be fucked forever.

brasty · 16/05/2017 11:15

The NHS is being privatised. It is happening as we speak.

Completely and utterly agree.

user1471439240 · 16/05/2017 12:16

The biggest problem the Nhs has is the Union scaremongering the electorate with doom and gloom.
People are tired of the political posturing, and are well informed today to make their own choices.

RoseandVioletCreams · 16/05/2017 12:21

Op I understand your scared but if its any consolation I was watching brilliant program on UK imp buildings, they did Westminster and went through Thacthers poll tax era and how it finished her off.

If there is any attempt to change the NHS we can protest agaisnt that and we will.

There would be unrest and stink and riots - and to be honest, people accuse this government of U turns, but I think its good. It means they do listen.

Personally I do not fear they can do much with the NHS as its the heart of this country - people are passionate about it - it was even the main thrust of our Olympics production. There would be civil unrest of the like never ever seen before.

I am likely to vote Tory this time, I am a swing voter and I have many reasons to vote Tory but I suspect like myself I would happily join protests, and be a very vigorous objector to any threat to the NHS.

I agree, I am no expert but have spent too much time sadly in hospitals recently, experienced utterly wonderful staff etc, but I am sure throwing more money it is not going to solve its problems.

It does need an over haul, so many things need tightening up and ironing out - and then give it more money.,

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/05/2017 12:26

NHS is being privitised by the back door. No gov would privitise in one go. Google virgin healthcare.

brasty · 16/05/2017 12:26

We spend less on GDP in our health system than most other western countries. The NHS needs money, good care costs.

And I have spent lots of time in hospital, the issue is money.
What do you mean by restructuring it? Do you mean privatising it? Like the disastrous Circle privatising the internationally renowned eye services in Nottingham, that are now not able to provide more than basic care?

OP posts:
brasty · 16/05/2017 12:28

I know the NGS is being privatised by the back door. My partner works in one of the privatised services that patients think are provided by the NHS. And I hear how the focus is now on money, not patient care.

you're not alone brasty, it's clear from a lot of the political threads there are many disabled people worried about 5 more years of tories. I wish labour had a better top team - I do think 2 things though: 1) The backlash against May in 5 years time will be mighty IF labour can get themselves a decent centrist team together by then and could be a powerful force for making things better 2) May is not standing on a ticket of cutting PIP further or cutting NHS funding/introducing co-pays, [will check when the tory manifesto is out] so things should not be getting much worse in the next 5 years, afterall we've been promised stability and that is what Corbyn has failed to offer.

brasty · 16/05/2017 12:30

I really hope things don't get worse.

Well that takes care of that, doesn't it?

GTFO. The banking collapse was not the fault of the Labour govt.
Austerity measures are not working, they are harming the economy

GraceGrape · 16/05/2017 12:39

I really don't get why people keep saying the Conservatives are good for the economy.

Reuters are reporting this morning that inflation has risen from 0.3% to 2.7% in one year!

However, the Tories keep telling people they are the party of a "strong and stable" economy, so of course it must be true.

wasonthelist · 16/05/2017 12:42

But we are just getting over the labour government financial disasters.

Bollocks. We are (not) getting over bailing out the banks.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 16/05/2017 12:45

How much do you think will be spent

on re nationalising all these industries? Tens of billions and that's not costed as it's 'investment'tax more, spend more borrow more blah blah

If Corbyn gets in the NHS will be fucked as the country will be bankrupt Bratzy but the tories don't really care either so either way you cut it it's doomed.

Unfortunately we all need the grown up conversation about the NHS instead of it being a money pit and a political football.

It's not fit for purpose for the 21st century and needs completely rewrite modelling and combining with social care.

Until we do that the NHS is fuckec.

NoLotteryWinYet · 16/05/2017 12:47

if you trawl through the IFS website and look at the minimum wage increase, corporation tax increase, free school meals expansion to choose just 3 labour policies, you'll see what people mean when they say Corbyn isn't competent. Perhaps also look into who most benefits from free university tuition whilst you're there.

allegretto · 16/05/2017 12:50

If there is any attempt to change the NHS we can protest agaisnt that and we will.

What do you mean "if"? It is already being changed. More services are being rationed and privatised all the time.

Fl0ellafunbags · 16/05/2017 12:58

Seriously considering going Nat, just to avoid the catastrophic impact on public services. And I am English!

I was living in Scotland at the time of the last election (am also English) and voted Nat to try and get the tories out of Scotland and send a clear message that the system is broken and our so-called democracy is a sham.

brasty · 16/05/2017 12:59

I already pay for things I used to get free from NHS.

OP posts:
makeourfuture · 16/05/2017 13:01

if you trawl through the IFS website

IFS is not bad. But they do have an agenda. The old "all debt is bad" canard.

brasty · 16/05/2017 13:02

FFS most of you don't seem to actually care about people. Just scoring political points.
