I cannot believe what I have just witnessed!

An advert where this poor lad obviously feels like he doesn't measure up to his deceased father. We go through this sad journey, it's all grey and sad... SadSad

Then 💥Bam 💥 Tartare sauce on the chin and filet o fish burger and all is well!

My husband and I were gobsmacked, quickly followed by a huge outburst of laughter.

Aibu to think this advert is just... wow? Hmm

My Father died when I was in my early teens around the same time the British Heart Foundation released the 'Staying Alive' advert. We were horrified and upset.

Me and DH was both disgusted when we saw it yesterday, shame on McDonald's. Totally innapropriate

Can you imagine the pitch?

We have this boy talking about his Dad. He's asking his mum about him and we see they have nothing in common.

Then he goes to McDonalds. His mum says that was his favourite as well. So it all ends ok and the boy is happy.

FFS - you're McDonalds. You sell burgers, you're everywhere and it's fast. That's your USP.

Back to the point - yep, very poor taste.

Ok I didn't like the heart charity advert but it did draw attention to an issue Id never thought of

THIS advert is so so crass. How can they trade bereavement for cash like this? It's so sick and yeah no supportive to the fictional child. "Tartar sauce makes it all ok" what?!

I have to stop myself shouting at the mum, 'Just tell him he's like his dad, you thick cow!' Annoys me even though kid is fictional!

user1492 I'm sorry that campaign upset you, but its intent was to save lives. Bit different to just trying to flog burgers.

Omfg just watched it.
What on earth were they thinking.
Can't believe anyone involved agreed to have anything to do with it.

She's awful wtf would talk to their son like that!

Styturnip · 15/05/2017 01:05

Exactly. It's EA.

It's awful. I'm no advertising executive but it's really not cool to use grieving children to try to sell fish burgers.

Esther Hall also played one of the pathologists in Waking the Dead. She was between Holly Aird and Tara Fitzgerald.

Am widowed with 2 boys. Not offended. Doesn't grab me either. Certainly doesn't make me want to eat McD's. It's a bit aid a shameless ploy to manipulate emotions - but many adverts have this approach, using sentiment or humour etc

Ha ha apologised yesterday, so why was the advert being shown continually last night

Report
RockyBird · 16/05/2017 08:38

The first thing I wondered was if the dad had died from a heart attack caused in part by eating too many McDonalds.

I only saw the very last bit of the ad.

Saw it for the first time last night. Thought it was in bad taste, but then turned over to something else, so didn't bother me as much as it could have done. And I say that as a widow, with young DCs. However, I'd HATE for them to see it. I believe Winston's Wish have got involved and asked for it to be pulled.
