McDonald's like Dad advert

I cannot believe what I have just witnessed!

An advert where this poor lad obviously feels like he doesn't measure up to his deceased father. We go through this sad journey, it's all grey and sad... SadSad

Then 💥Bam 💥 Tartare sauce on the chin and filet o fish burger and all is well!

My husband and I were gobsmacked, quickly followed by a huge outburst of laughter.

Aibu to think this advert is just... wow? Hmm

Maybe the father died of obesity thanks to his love of McDonalds?

Sorry to go off track, but that mother in the McDonalds ad, what have we seen her in before? It's really bugging me.

Orlantina · 16/05/2017 09:41

McDonalds apologises

I liked it. A sweet and sensitive ad.

Huldra · 16/05/2017 10:02

Even my 12 year old son started ranting about the awful mother the first time he saw it Grin

MusicToMyEars800 · 16/05/2017 10:33

It's just dreadful, the mother pretty much says that the only thing the boy has in common with his dad is that they both have the same Mcdonalds order of the fillet o fish with tartare sauce Hmm

Read the thread. It was on page four or five.

First time I saw the advert I thought it was odd having an advert about a child bereavement charity, and why are they filming it in McDonalds.

AprilLudgateDwyer · 16/05/2017 10:48

Esther hall was also romy in queer as folk.

LittleLionMansMummy · 16/05/2017 13:45

The first time I only caught the end of it and thought it was quite sweet. But today I watched it all the way through and have changed my mind. I don't really have an issue with it from a child bereavement point of view because it seemed the dad died when the boy was too young to remember him. But I have massive issues with the rest of the advert, with his mum basically saying he doesn't measure up to her memory of his dad in any way, shape or form (until the fillet of fish of course). It's really uncomfortable viewing and I feel his humiliation when he can't kick the football and the girls don't fancy him. I too just want to shake his mum and say "for fuck sake, give the boy some self belief and stop stop destroying his self esteem!"

2014newme · 16/05/2017 15:39

Really? 🙄 it's an advert.

kali110 · 16/05/2017 16:54

I thought it was sweet too.

LightYears · 16/05/2017 19:42

Yeah, uncomfortable viewing.

BollardDodger · 16/05/2017 19:53

The people who decide to run adverts like this just don't do emotions or empathy, so cannot see the issues that are obvious to everyone else.

LightYears · 16/05/2017 19:58

Exactly or more sinister they do know and use that fact.

Styturnip · 16/05/2017 20:11

All publicity is good publicity
Or is that too cynical when it comes to McDonald's?

AngryGinger · 16/05/2017 20:54

I fucking hate that Tesco advert with the salmon. Who the flip is tricked into thinking salmon is not healthy. It's so patronising. Quite like the McDonald's one though

alltoomuchrightnow · 16/05/2017 21:05

Horrible ad. Well, I did think it was Esther Hall, and that the Kris Marshall character was dead. Is it her though or a lookalike?

hula008 · 16/05/2017 21:17

The fact that there are 2 people on earth that enjoy Filet O Fish is incredulous

it's not been pulled, I saw it in the last hour

lucyandpoppy123 · 16/05/2017 23:30

I lost my dad recently (I'm 23)
and I thought it was quite nice. Sometimes bereavement is just that, reminiscing and sitting down in a café or whatever.
