thats all. I hope I'm not being impertinent with this question....

Two kids under 3.5.

ShatnersWig · 12/05/2017 14:21

I've never been a big fan of alcohol. I enjoy the occasional pint of cider, the occasional glass of wine or prosecco. Don't like spirits or beer at all. Have never been drunk.

If your question is more why do people drink to excess, that I don't know nor will I ever understand it. I have some friends who drink ridiculous amounts, are clearly unhealthy, who spend a lot of money on it and basically a weekend would not go by without having drunk too much either Friday or Saturday night and spend much of the next day recovering. Don't get that.

upperlimit · 12/05/2017 14:21

Grin so for survival then Icing?

Ecureuil · 12/05/2017 14:21

IcingSugar yes that too Grin. Mine are 3.5 and nearly 2. Coffee and wine are my friends.

PodgeBod · 12/05/2017 14:22

I'm a tightly wound, anxious and neurotic person Grin having a drink relaxes me.

NoLotteryWinYet · 12/05/2017 14:23

For the feeling of elation, the stopping of the mental whirring, a signal it's the end of the week, relaxing. I really enjoy nice red wine, good whisky, port.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 12/05/2017 14:23

I lost a baby a few years ago and started drinking then. I did stop for a while but then the 'just one glass of wine' started again, followed by a bottle of wine most nights. I've recently given up again because of a comment one of my DC made.

I wish I could just have one drink but don't know my limits so have decided it's best not to drink (at home) any more

BawbagBiggins · 12/05/2017 14:23

I forget!

CainDinglesLeatherJacket · 12/05/2017 14:23

@Ecureuil I don't drink coffee at all, it tastes awful to me, but I could drink tea all day...maybe there's a science to this? Confused

Rumtopf · 12/05/2017 14:23

I drink wine because I like the taste but also the aspect of trying something new and talking with Dh or whomever about it. Some wines pair beautifully with food and it's just nice to sit having a glass of wine, winding down and chatting.

Gin because there's nothing quite as refreshing as a gin and tonic with lime in the garden on a hot day.

Rum because I really like it, I can get quite tipsy (but not drunk) and sometimes being a bit silly and animated and merry with people is fun.

IcingSausage · 12/05/2017 14:24

Yep! Survival for all of us! Grin

alltouchedout · 12/05/2017 14:24

Enjoyment.

Miniwookie · 12/05/2017 14:28

To get drunk. Because illegal drugs are socially unacceptable when you're a 30something mother. I rarely drink because I'm not bothered about the taste of alcohol, but enjoy the experience of being drunk with good friends.

lanouvelleheloise · 12/05/2017 14:29

Because I love the tastes.
Because I love socialising with people.
Because it makes me feel close to colleagues, so that we become friends.
Because I like feeling a bit giddy.
Because I know quite a lot about whisky, and I enjoy expanding that knowledge.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/05/2017 14:33

Wine, single malt whisky and Real Ale all taste delicious.

DJBaggySmalls · 12/05/2017 14:36

I make wine. I love making wine, its like alchemy. I enjoy drinking the wine I make. A glass of wine in or with dinner improves the meal no end.
I also like beer, vodka and rum, and make fruit liqueurs.

People and animals take drugs for pleasure. Prohibition doesnt stop that, it just makes us do it when you arent watching.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 12/05/2017 14:37

Same reasons I eat chocolate, have sex, exercise.... I enjoy it and I want to

Expecting2017 · 12/05/2017 14:37

I drink to get drunk and dance with my friends and have a laugh. I don't have one or two. I have probably 5+ that's why now being pregnant it doesn't bother me that I can't drink because I only do so when I go to town with friends on a night out. Which isn't often anyway!

whomovedmychocolate · 12/05/2017 14:38

I don't drink. DP is a dry alcoholic so I committed to not drinking. I didn't drink anyway so it was no biggie for me. I have every bit as fun a social life as people who do, except I get to drive home afterwards.

GrumpyOldBag · 12/05/2017 14:44

I like the taste of good wine and the effects of alcohol help me to relax.

AliceByTheMoon · 12/05/2017 14:44

I developed a fairly hefty drinking problem as a way to (mis)manage my severe depression and pnd. I now class myself as a non-drinker and love it. :) I envy people who can drink for fun, but know that I cant drink for fun- it's too dangerous for me.

Never mind. I can't eat aubergine either. :)

GrumpyOldBag · 12/05/2017 14:45

But I rarely drink more than 2 glasses of wine in a 'session'.

GrumpyOldBag · 12/05/2017 14:46

(That wasn't meant to be a response to you Alice, just crossed posts)

AliceByTheMoon · 12/05/2017 14:46

I know, Grumpy.Grin

nInachu · 12/05/2017 14:46

its tastes nice.
