thats all. I hope I'm not being impertinent with this question....

OP posts:
HomityBabbityPie · 12/05/2017 15:18

frazzled

It's fine to drink when breastfeeding

SmokeCloak · 12/05/2017 15:19

Because it's Friday.

Goldfishjane · 12/05/2017 15:20

SaucyJack "If I don't have a drink I'm up til 2am having imaginary arguments with people I saw in the supermarket 7 years ago."

best comment EVER.

I can't help out OP, I hardly ever drink, when I do it's just random "I fancy it". But I had to highlight Saucy's comment as it's so relatable.

I have only recently discovered, I am 53, that some alcoholic drinks can be pleasant. I am not a lover of wine but I do like a nice gin and tonic. I don't drink to get drunk and if I start to feel light headed I stop but after years of being afraid of alcohol (due to things I experienced at the hands of my mum as a kid) I have discovered that it can be OK to drink.

How long is OP going to wait before "adding her own reasons in a bit" I wonder. Hmm

Giddyaunt18 · 12/05/2017 15:22

Everybody likes to get high!

Frazzledmum123 · 12/05/2017 15:24

Homity - yes sorry normally it would but my baby could seriously eat for England and is very unpredictable with feeds so can't time it properly in a way I'd feel comfortable with. Not long now till I can start weaning though so hopefully she'll drop some milk and it should be doable soon!

HerOtherHalf · 12/05/2017 15:26

Mainly because I'm a really nervous driver and it takes the edge off my anxiety, especially when the kids are kicking off in the back of the bus.

NCSpanner · 12/05/2017 15:27

Sometimes for social enjoyment. Usually for sedation.

I like the taste of wine. I'ts nice to drink with a meal and I love sharing with my husband.
I don't really have any other 'vices', so I don't see why I should feel guilty about having a nice glass of red in the evening. Never smoked or done drugs. Saw enough of it at home as a child and vowed to never get addicted.
But I do think tee total people once had a problem and the only way they can beat it is to abstain.
Up to them.

Letmesleepalready · 12/05/2017 15:35

DCs.

sobeyondthehills · 12/05/2017 15:40

For me, because it makes Eurovision more fun

For My DP its because it makes Eurovision bareable

Birdsgottaf1y · 12/05/2017 15:43

I haven't been able to have a proper drink for a year, because of ill health/medication.

I've missed having wine with meals, especially on special occasions. From a Sweet white, to an earthy red and everything in-between.

I miss fruity cocktails, now it's barbecue season and a ice cold cider.

At Christmas I missed the Spirits that i'd normally drink.

I buy the non-alcohol versions, but they aren't the same. I enjoy seasonal cocktails, alongside seasonal foods.

I didn't drink between the ages of 21-32, because my DH didn't and I thought "i didn't like it", how wrong I was.

CabbagePatchKid91 · 12/05/2017 15:47

Being a teacher Wine

AntagonyAunt · 12/05/2017 15:49

Why do you drink op?

susanboozan · 12/05/2017 15:50

Because it's a legal high. The only one left by the nanny State.

Because I want to and I can as an adult. And I like it, can afford it so I do.

Because (joking), I'm always trying to find the best hangover cure, and you don't find that if you don't drink!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/05/2017 15:51

being honest I drink because I hate my life, I'm lonely, am very unhappy
and sometimes I just want to forget. However, drink is a depressant
so not always a good idea but I still do it anyway :(

CabbagePatchKid91 · 12/05/2017 15:53

Also this.
Well put Frazzled
Because I prefer the person I become when mildly tipsy. It's the real me before anxiety and shyness take over. I don't worry or over analyse things and god that's a relief!

user1491572121 · 12/05/2017 15:56

Antagony yeah, OP hasn't been back. Hmm Be careful everyone.

Wouldn't want this on the DM would we now?

Tea because its just what you do
Water to stay hydrated
Fizzy water and orange juice because i like the taste
Baileys because i love the socks off it
Champagne because life is too short and i like it
Fruit Cider if i fancy a drink but don't want the full alcoholic hit of champagne/baileys

What do you drink and why?

shinyredbus · 12/05/2017 15:58

Oh! and Mulled wine. I drink about a bottle a day from the start of December (although the last three years has been hit and miss as i was pregnant and breastfeeding!!)

OregonShales · 12/05/2017 15:59

Sorry to hear that Homity - it's certainly not a good reason to hate someone!

I usually encounter the opposite.

I drink occasionally but didn't touch a drop until I was in my mid-20s. I grew up with a non drinking family and friends (not religious, my family weren't against it, just didn't do it themselves, and I just fell into a similar crowd of friends)
I find that some (not all, but some) teetotallers are almost miffed that I accept their non drinking without question, and even more miffed that to me it is the norm Confused
Maybe they are just usually ready to have to defend themselves and are disarmed when I don't make a thing of it, but sometimes its smugness waiting for my response and then annoyance that I'm not in awe of the decision. It's weird that it's such a divisive subject.

Doesn't bother me either way! Pop a cork, pour a glass of prosecco or shloer, it's all good with me Smile

To answer the OP, I like a glass of vino with some nice food. It compliments it well! Smile

2rebecca · 12/05/2017 16:02

I like the taste. I wish it didn't make me drunk. If they did a very low or nonalcoholic beer or wine that tasted as good as the alcoholic version I'd drink it.
Getting woozy and feeling a bit nauseated aren't plus points for me. Wrecking your liver to become more tolerant isn't a good option either.

Longdistance · 12/05/2017 16:09

It keeps me sane.

I love the taste of a good wine too wine snob
