To think this about Jeremy Kyle?

That he comes across as an abuser in an abusive relationship? (To be clear I mean his persona on his show not him as a person in real life as I don't know him). I find it very creepy and very uncomfortable when, after shouting at guests, yelling and snarling in their faces in order to break them down, then suddenly switches to 'kind' Jeremy, kneeling down beside them, looking up at them as they're crying or close to crying after he shouted at them and saying things in a soft voice like "I get you, sweetheart" or "You're not really that bad, are you?" And if he doesn't get an answer pushes it: "Look at me. You're not bad, are you?" So condescending and sick inducing. It makes my skin crawl and reminds me of an emotional bully in a controlling relationship.

I so agree with you OP

He makes money from real peoples misery (though to be fair some of them , well. . ) and is such a hypocrite . Did he not cheat on his wife with the Nanny ? Did he not have gambling problems of his own once ?

People like him I do not like .

inashizzle · 11/05/2017 09:32

Watch Steve's face when 'Jezza' brings him in on it. He has to play the game but straining to contain the cringe.
Longing for the day Steve grabs him by the throat and slings him across studio for being a smug scumbag.

Patronising , smarmy, charisma less cock

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 11/05/2017 09:35

His 'guests' are all lower working class sub intelligent neds. If they were ordinary people with decent intellect, JK would get eaten alive. He has the people of lower intelligence on there so he can dominate them.

Abs o lutely and he knows it .

Grin Grin Now THAT would be worth seeing

user1466690252 · 11/05/2017 09:36

I read an interveiw once with a guest of it. they keep them separate before the show and the team tell them "he said this about you" to rile the situation and get them really angry, stirring the pot. they are also offered alcohol the night before. He said he was on it for a drugs test that came up clean, which was a lie because he was using and he said that JK dictated the narative of who was good or bad in the interview and he stood up for the other person saying some of the atuff he was saying wasn't true, which was edited out.

MADEinLONDON · 11/05/2017 09:41

I don't know what Chase and Status know that we don't, but this probably sums up behind the scenes!!!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 11/05/2017 09:56

I saw an episode where he was attacking some guests, appearing for the second time, for "Not sticking to the custody agreement we drew up for you last time"

Of course they didn't! JK isn't a judge. They can do what they like once they leave the studio Grin

I used to go to a particular laundrette and I timed my visits to coincide with JK. The laundrette ladies would stop their work, make all the customers a cup of tea and everyone would sit and watch it together.Grin

I think the attraction for many is that it features situations that are similar but a bit worse than their own lives.
Women would be dunking their biscuits and going: "Well at least my man never did that"
It was comforting If deeply unhelpful

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 10:08

Agreed OP. The show is grotesque and JK is obnoxious.

As for people 'choosing to go on there', well yes and no. Consent is not necessarily informed consent depending on the intellect of the participant, their mental health situation, their substance use, their susceptibility etc. Interviews with former researchers have suggested that guests are manipulated and often misled. This article is really interesting:

Behind the scenes at Jeremy Kyle

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/05/2017 10:10

If he's so awful and you hate the show so much, why are you all watching it?

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 10:11

Philip Hodson (a psychotherapist whose credentials and reputation are considerably more impressive than Graham's) has this to say:

'It's extraordinary in the modern world where we're so sensitive to hate crimes of all kinds that we still find the mentally ill, or the mentally challenged, a fit subject for amusement. It isn't funny.'

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 10:11

I don't watch it Little, if that was directed at me.

Funnyonion17 · 11/05/2017 10:14

Agree 100%

His fascination with the sex lives of his guests is also weird

MyOpe · 11/05/2017 10:19

Ah yes his guests are "vulnerable" (one of the most over used phrases on mumsnet) They are not "lower working class" either, that's insulting to us who get up at silly o'clock to work in a shit low paid job. Live next to people like this for a month. See how much sympathy you have for their "vulnerability" then

^Agree 95% of the time. Once in a blue moon you see someone who is suffering who could be helped.

I can't watch the programme, most of its just a long, and often boastful, self-regarding scream of depravity. Jeremy Kyle is mostly irrelevant.

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/05/2017 10:19

It was a general question water, hence I asked why you all watch it. A lot of people here know an awful lot about it (including names of regulars like Steve and Graham).

BastardGoDarkly · 11/05/2017 10:21

Bit anyone that can scream at a woman that's been battered black and blue for 20 years, that she was a shit mum for staying, even ' playing the character' of a cunt, is a cunt.

He's a despicable disgusting bastard, the way he makes addicts grovel and beg for treatment is nothing short of cruel.

MarvinKMooney · 11/05/2017 10:22

I have a friend who used to be a production assistant on the show. They're encouraged to twist, stir and generally wind up the 'guests' before they walk on, so they're absolutely furious. My friend lasted just weeks and couldn't do it any more. She hated it. Awful show - it's a modern version of a witch hunt.

MyheartbelongstoG · 11/05/2017 10:45

Years ago I used to kice in Birmingham when he worked for BRMB radio.

It was at the time the radio station was doing two strangers and a wedding. He later went on to marry the girl that got married.

I was in an abusive relationship and he was so kind to me and gave me great advice. Shame I didn't take it.

You're judging him based on his show and not what he's like in real life.

MyheartbelongstoG · 11/05/2017 10:46

Live not kice

DeleteOrDecay · 11/05/2017 10:53

I judge anyone who thinks it's acceptable to abuse people on tv for entertainment.

user1493022461 · 11/05/2017 10:58

Then why the fuck do you watch this offensive horseshit? YOU and people like you are the reason these vile shows exist, because you sit and watch them.
Stop doing it, and they will cancel him eventually. While you watch this bollocks you have no room to complain about anything, you're nothing but a voyeur.

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 11/05/2017 11:27

I don't watch it . . I catch glimpses if I am visiting DS or a DF

User then numbers .. why are you so aggressive ? Is it because you have a User name ? The amount of "users" with aggression issues on here .

Also I joined as a User mere days ago and managed to change my name before that is trotted out .

user1493022461 · 11/05/2017 11:30

There is no aggression, just honesty.

You catch glimpses...come off it. You know far too much about it.

It's sick, voyeuristic, lowest common denominator, car crash tv designed to make sad people feel better about their crappy lives, because they see someone having a crappier life than them.

DeleteOrDecay · 11/05/2017 11:47

I don't watch it... Anymore. I've already said I used to watch it in my youth. Before I realised what a shit storm of a show it is. I doubt it's changed much since then.

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 11:57

How do you know so much about it if you don't watch it, User?

user1493022461 · 11/05/2017 11:59

I've read about it. People like the OP describe it very well.
