To think this about Jeremy Kyle?

That he comes across as an abuser in an abusive relationship? (To be clear I mean his persona on his show not him as a person in real life as I don't know him). I find it very creepy and very uncomfortable when, after shouting at guests, yelling and snarling in their faces in order to break them down, then suddenly switches to 'kind' Jeremy, kneeling down beside them, looking up at them as they're crying or close to crying after he shouted at them and saying things in a soft voice like "I get you, sweetheart" or "You're not really that bad, are you?" And if he doesn't get an answer pushes it: "Look at me. You're not bad, are you?" So condescending and sick inducing. It makes my skin crawl and reminds me of an emotional bully in a controlling relationship.

Then why the fuck do you watch this offensive horseshit? YOU and people like you are the reason these vile shows exist, because you sit and watch them. Stop doing it, and they will cancel him eventually. While you watch this bollocks you have no room to complain about anything, you're nothing but a voyeur

Seeing as I don't have a BARB box to record viewer ratings, nor have a Twitter or Facebook account to give the show any publicity I fail to see how on the occasions when I am not at work and catch an episode, that stopping this would cause his show to be cancelled Hmm

YOU is a general you, as in all the people who are glued to catch glimpes of this shit and then complain about it.

No audience= no programme. It's on because you lap it up.

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 12:06

User, I find that hypocritical. You're having a go at others for knowing what the show is about and disliking it, while you yourself know what the show is about and dislike it. Confused

user1493022461 · 11/05/2017 12:07

No, only for watching it. I think that was rather clear.

MyheartbelongstoG · 11/05/2017 12:08

Delete-im judging him based on how he treated me.

I wasn't oh his show by the way!

100% agree - was just about to post basically the same thing. Stop watching, show gets cancelled, problem solved.

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 12:15

I agree but I'm pretty sure that those who are objecting to it here are not the people who watch it! They know and understand the content of the show. They may catch glimpses of it.

When I go to the gym it is usually on one of the big screens with subtitles and all of the cardio machines face that way so I see some of it- though I obviously choose to look away frequently! So yes, I am familiar with the format and with Kyle's behaviour and the sorts of people that go on his show. I've also read quite a lot of articles criticising the show. Everyone knows what the show is about (including you User), whether they watch it or not.

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 12:18

I suspect that the core audience who actually watch it is comprised of a) Students and b) People from the same socioeconomic groups as the guests on the show. These are the people who don't see any ethical problem with it.

inashizzle · 11/05/2017 12:43

Wow that last post was rather snobby and aggressive. Maybe tv on in background, original poster was talking about his weird, narcistic personality oozing off him.So it does sound like you're trying to say that anyone who watches it is similar to his guests? His guests are 'vunerable' as other posters have said. However I doubt all of viewers are. I'd say vast majority compelled to watch at how a little toss pot gets away with presenting at all, not for voyerism🙄

CycleHire · 11/05/2017 12:49

I only watched it once years ago. It was a paternity test - the man really believed the child was his, the girlfriend promised there hadn't been anyone else, his mum was convinced the grandchild wasn't his son, etc etc. The paternity test showed he wasn't the father and you could just see him falling apart. I cried just watching. Now, I don't deny he had the right to know, but not on TV, not as entertainment. I never ever watched JK again and I never will. If people didn't watch it wouldn't be on our screens anymore.

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/05/2017 12:53

I cannot stand the show or him.

Allergychange · 11/05/2017 13:00

I'm sure there was a teacher on MN who said the researchers stood outside her deprived sink estate school handing out leaflets to the parents trying to get them to come on the show.

GiraffesCantPlayHopScotch · 11/05/2017 13:03

He really bullies the guests. He asks a question and then cuts them off if they have a reasonable explanation.

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 13:07

inashizzle I accept that my post sounded snobby. But aggressive?

I think most of the commentary here is coming from people who don't watch the show, but who are aware of it and have seen it. (TV on in background etc as you say).

Of the people I have met who actually watch it (as in, sit down with a cuppa to watch it, watch it most days, CHOOSE to watch it) many ARE from that socioeconomic group, some vulnerable, some not. Some say it make sure them feel better about their own lives. Some watch it purely for squalid entertainment. Some watch it to take the piss out of JK himself. Clearly people who's watch it regularly do not find it unethical.

Those of us who have seen the show (but don't watch it as such) can say we find it unethical without being hypocritical.

What a load of shit.

NellysKnickers · 11/05/2017 13:42

He is vile. Rude and abusive bully. DH watches it, gives me the rage.

Lottie991 · 11/05/2017 13:45

He makes me cringe I can't watch it

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 13:46

You think I'm lying user? That would be a bizarre thing to lie about!

ItsNachoCheese · 11/05/2017 14:02

He is a huge cuntpuffin of a man i cant stand him

TheFirstMrsDV · 11/05/2017 15:00

Bitout sorry, no. JK is not like an actor because actors are acting with other actors. When they play psychopaths and murderers are they are not actually hurting anyone.
They are on a set with people who have a part to play who will walk away at the end of a day with a pay cheque and no harm done.

JK is being vile to real people. He is sending real women home with real violent men. He is sending people back to their lives after being exploited on TV. He is shouting in the face of someone who is not an actor.

How is that any different from me walking into a shop and screaming at a stranger? I am not a nasty person in my real life so does that make it ok if I go and play a part in the real life of someone else?

waterlego6064 · 11/05/2017 15:01

cuntpuffin! 😂

keenoonvino · 11/05/2017 15:37

I know his ex wife. She says he's an absolute fuck wit, just like he is on the show.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/05/2017 15:44

MrsDV I totally agree that the effects of what JK is doing are horrible. I'm absolutely not defending that at all, I hope you understand that. What I am saying is that he persona he uses to achieve those effects is an act. Not him.

"How is that any different from me walking into a shop and screaming at a stranger? I am not a nasty person in my real life so does that make it ok if I go and play a part in the real life of someone else?"

No of course it doesn't make it OK. I never said what JK does is OK or that I like it, if you read my posts back. I'm not defending the programme, I'm just saying that he's playing a part.

Actors performers often interact with people who are not "in" on the act eg Sacha Baron Cohen when he is playing AliG, the famous War of The Worlds broadcast that caused panic in America.

Anyway, clearly I'm coming across as a JK apologist / not making my point clearly Confused
