AIBU to want to counteract the lies I keep reading on here?

Jeremy Corbyn is unelectable/ a shambles/ can't lead.

He's been an mp for 34 years, always voted on his principals, never been involved in scandal, claims a pittance in expenses, lives in his constituency, voted in as leader of his party by a large majority twice, has been responsible for a huge surge in party members, elicits genuine interest and support from the public, can debate and speak publicly without scripted answers.

The NHS is too big to be saved/where is the money coming from.
Conservatives bailed bankers out with 180 billion. 30 billion is needed to 'save' NHS. The money is there and can be costed through taxing top 5% of earners (see below). That's only people earning over 80k (not 40k or 55k or any other number I've seen on this site. Anyone earning over 80k - again that's just the top 5% of earners in this country) will have to pay a LITTLE bit more tax). Here is a break down of many other policies and how they will be paid for;

✔️Labour will reverse the Tory Party cut in Corporation Tax saving the UK Taxpayer £64 billion over a parliamentary cycle (OBR)

✔️Free School Meals for children aged 4-11, costing £900m which will be raised by placing VAT on Independent Schools which will raise £1.1bn+

✔️£10 per hour Minimum Wage for all over 18 years benefiting 5.5m workers, paid for by the private sector firms, and savings in reduced Working Tax Credit payments

✔️A 17% increase in the unpaid carers’ allowance worth £500 a year, paid for by reversing the recent Inheritance Tax cut
Renationalise the Railways, which will cost nothing because we’ll take railways into public ownership as franchises lapse

✔️Halt the tender of NHS contracts to private health, phasing out the £48bn given to private health since 2010. This will save taxpayers between £3.5bn-£5bn in reduced profits paid to private health

✔️Build 200,000 homes a year, half from the private sector at zero cost to the taxpayer. The rest would be Council Homes paid for by giving Councils the power to borrow against existing assets. Consequently, the UK’s £12bn Housing Benefit bill to private landlords would start to fall.

✔️Introduce 4 new public holidays per year that BoE say would be cost neutral due to increased expenditure by the public on those days off, £2.3bn.

✔️End Zero Hour Jobs by guaranteeing any worker on regular hours a contract. This carries zero cost to the taxpayer.

✔️A ban on companies based in tax havens, or those who pay their CEOs more than £350,000, bidding for government contracts. This carries no cost to the taxpayer.

✔️Halt the opening of new Free Schools and new Grammars which will save the taxpayer money as NAO says Free Schools cost double what was originally intended.

✔️Ban ‘sweetheart’ deals between the HMRC & Multi-Corps and make the big firms publish their tax returns. This will increase tax revenue because it becomes harder for firms to hide profits.

✔️Eradicate the Gender Pay Gap by making firms publish their pay differentials between men & women. This will increase UK tax revenue from higher wages.

✔️Labour will cut Business Rates for small businesses by £1.5bn, and end Multi-Corps paying SMEs."

Iraq war.
Historic. Not Jeremy Corbyn. He voted against it.

IRA.
Historic. JC publicly tried to broker peace talks. Same as Thatcher (who lied and said she wasn't but did in secret).

What else have you got?

So AIBU and how?

Mummmy
I agree - David would have been the better Miliband to lead the party.

I will vote Labour because I cannot stomach the Tory policies, and a vote for them would mean me signing my support to their policies. I don't believe Corbyn is the right leader but I think sanity will prevail eventually.

MrsRuby · 10/05/2017 22:21

Very interesting. I think both sides of the rather controversial situation are covered in the article.

He is almost as much to blame for Brexit as Cameron. The main difference between the two is that Cameron wanted to remain in the EU.

In the thirty-odd years I've been following politics, I have never seen such a piss-poor opposition. They are appalling.

There is a weird personality cult around Corbyn which I find both baffling and a bit scary. It's like him and the party are more important than the best interests of the country.

FelixtheMouse · 10/05/2017 22:22

If Corbyn speaks to crowds of enthusiasts it's because they are party members bussed in for a photo op. No politician of any party has spoken to a genuine public meeting with a crowd of the general public in decades. Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan were probably the last (and seeing Wilson slap down a heckler was an awesome sight!)

CodLiverOil556 · 10/05/2017 22:22

I think the last Labour government's note saying 'sorry, there's no money left' (or words to that effect) has stuck with people.

Labour spent, spent, spent and then spent a little more. We can't afford a Labour government again. No matter how fluffy JC's policies are it's not going to work.

Tapandgo · 10/05/2017 22:23

I can see Corbyn is getting slated for having Abbott in government (rightly so), but May doesn't get criticised for having Boris Bonkers as Foriegn Secretary (scary stuff).

bluegreenyellow · 10/05/2017 22:24

'Hahaha you do realise how ridiculous that sounds' i do but its true
'That's very goady and judgmental. Just as I have no care in the world who puts bins out in the May household, I also don't care what Corbyn's does in his personal life and why he divided his wife so long as it wasn't cheating.' my point isn't that he divorced his wife its he was unwilling to put his child first

Labour should walk this election. But they won't. They're an absolute fucking disaster.

MrsRuby · 10/05/2017 22:27

I am totally copying and pasting from a variety of sources interspersed with little bits of my own ramblings. I never for one second said every word was my own - they are statements I agree with. I said in several posts "here's another quote" or some such. I haven't copied anything (purely by chance) from the official labour website - it's not endorsed by them so can't see that it's a party political broadcast! They are views I believe in and agree with. Lots copied from AAV site and simple google search.
I'm not claiming I am the only person to have ever expressed these views!

My dh and I work hard to send our kids to private school due to the local below-par state school not being fit for purpose. Why should we be penalised? IMO Parents of privately educated kids should receive a tax break due to the pressure we are relieving on already struggling state schools.

Put that in your pipe.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 22:29

my point isn't that he divorced his wife its he was unwilling to put his child first
Who are you to decide that and how do you know he doesn't think it's good for his child?
In my household, DH and I have absolutely opposite opinions to each other on private schools. But we don't doubt that each has the best interest of DCs at their heart. You are very judgmental.

Tapandgo · 10/05/2017 22:29

Breaking News
A draft of Labour's general election manifesto has been leaked, including plans to nationalise the energy industry and scrap tuition fees.
The BBC has seen a copy of the document, which has not yet been formally signed off, with the Mirror and the Daily Telegraph also reporting details.
These include nationalising railways, bus firms and the Royal Mail and renewing the Trident weapons system.
Labour would not comment on leaks.

Smellbellina · 10/05/2017 22:30

If it's good enough for your child, it's good enough for his is what he is saying.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 22:31

Why should we be penalised? IMO Parents of privately educated kids should receive a tax break due to the pressure we are relieving on already struggling state schools.
But that's your own decision, isn't it? Why are you acting like a martyr to it?

MrsRuby · 10/05/2017 22:32

Looks interesting - haven't seen it yet.

You're doing what you think is in the best interest for your DC Missy is that not enough for you?
I have put in my pipe, and will quite happily smoke it too

KindDogsTail · 10/05/2017 22:33

✔️Free School Meals for children aged 4-11, costing £900m which will be raised by placing VAT on Independent Schools which will raise £1.1bn+

This would mean a hike of 20% in costs to add to the already very high fees. For every pupil who drops out of independent school as a result, local councils will lose what they have to spend on them in the form of a school place.

This may cost more than the gain and punishes the many ordinary (many not rich) people trying to do the best they can for their children. These people are already not getting an allowance, in place of a school place, which their taxes have paid for.

The proposed policy would not raise the money it resumes it would. It also smacks of vindictiveness.

ExplodedCloud · 10/05/2017 22:34

So Diane Abbott gets slated for sending her son to private school. Corbyn gets slated for wanting to stick to a comprehensive.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 10/05/2017 22:37

You don't pay taxes for your children's education. You pay taxes for the education of the nurses, scientists, sales assistants, computer programmers, plumbers of the future.... all those people that you actually need for the country to function. A tax break for those who pay school fees would be very, very wrong.

MrsRuby · 10/05/2017 22:40

bluegreenyellow
I thought the supposition was that he divorced because she wanted private and he didn't?
Because that goes against his principles of wanting a level playing field for all children.

By the way, not that anybody cares but I am now on my laptp as phone texting was killing me!

I wont be able to answer everyone as will have to go to bed at some point!

JC has no interest in winning this election - all he is interested in is the September election of the labour party. He has spent his entire political life being a protester not a leader. And frankly how they can afford the manifesto is beyond me.

Smellbellina · 10/05/2017 22:42

Well said @ComputerUserNotTrained

AllThePrettySeahorses · 10/05/2017 22:43

With all due respect, OP - your post is nothing but barefaced lies.

Low expenses? Corbyn has never been outside the top 40% and claims well above average for a London MP.

Never involved in a scandal? Well the big one is when he took 2 IRA members into the HoC a few weeks after the Brighton bombing. Don't try to play it down - it was huge. Other scandals involve parading Diane Abbott naked for his mates, Traingate, the 2003 Stop the War conference, trying to block the Islington child abuse inquiry, working for a banned Iranian TV channel, trying to raise 3 coups against 3 different Labour leaders - all off the top of my head. There are no doubt more.

IRA peace talks? That is a vile lie. Corbyn had nothing to do with the talks. There is not one single mention of him. In fact, he actually campaigned and voted against them. On the contrary, he actually called for the IRA to bomb British soldiers.

Iraq? He may have voted against it but it was in the same spirit as he voted against intervention in Kosovo and Sierra Leone. It is disgraceful that an MP would ignore genocide.

The sources for all of these are obviously disgusting, right-wing, biased, smearing things like the Register of Interests, Hansard, They Work for You and even Corbyn's own editorials.

You should be ashamed of yourself for spreading lies and propaganda.
