Reasons to not vote Tory this GE

Bluebeedee · 09/05/2017 13:24

  1. Bedroom tax
  2. Denying disability benefit to 165,000 people
  3. Scrapping housing benefit for 18-21 year olds
  4. Benefit cap
  5. Rise in uni tuition fees
  6. Junior doctors' contracts
  7. Scrapping nurses' bursaries
  8. Snoopers' charter
  9. Social care cuts
  10. Public sector pay freeze
10. NHS "10 year diet"

There are many many more!

Corbyn wants to invest in public services- education and health by taxing the rich more. Surely you'd have to be completely ignorant and selfish to not agree with this? 4 more years of the Tories will be the end of the NHS, we'd be fucking stupid to let this happen.

Sea people tell you why we hold these opinions (and that's all they are for all of us)

And it's like you just don't listen, you are so convinced we are all brain washed.

Most people don't just accept blindly what they read and are capable of making an informed choice. That said I find it disturbing that people start threads to ask who they should vote for - at least make yourself as informed as possible instead of asking a load of randomers.

There is something about Corbyn that causes a lot of his supporters to talk about him in almost spiritual tones - it's like they have been brainwashed too (not saying liking Corbyn is being brainwashed just that there are supporters of his who can't say why they want him to be PM, they just keep repeating what a principled, brilliant, caring man of the people he is).

I guess he's the embodiment of Marmite

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 10/05/2017 08:42

Sorry if that wasn't clear. I agree with Seawitch that people should inform themselves as much as possible.

There's plenty of left wing media bias as well - read all of it, make your choice

SeaWitchly · 10/05/2017 09:22

No Tess, I am genuinely interested to hear why posters are voting or considering voting Tory. I don't agree but I respect their right to make an informed choice if that is indeed what it is.

What I don't respect is people who tell me that TM is strong and JC is useless but then can't back it up. FWIW I believe that sometimes TM is strong and sometimes she is useless and vice versa for Corbyn. Because they are both human and not perfect and are in their own ways trying to do what they feel is right for the UK and it's people.
And it depends of course on your own viewpoint and priorities in life, whatever they might be.

What I am saying is I agree with Livia, read widely, inform yourself and don't blindly follow the media mantra. Think about who might benefit most from what policy, be it Lib Dem, Labour, Green or Tory policy. Where might the vested interests lie, who would most benefit and who would be disadvantaged. Basically, what sort of society do you aspire to live in.

Then vote according to your convictions.

Anon213 · 10/05/2017 09:24

the Tories 'strong and stable government' and that a vote for JC and Labour was a vote for incompetence and anarchy

Exactly this ^^

I wake up this morning to find JC has spent another several Billion on education. Great but how the hell is he going to pay for this, where is this magic money forest, he is just pulling it out of his butt. He is trying to bankrupt this country, we are going to drown in debt. What a joke.

TessTube · 10/05/2017 09:25

You know one reason and (there are a few) that I wouldn't vote Tory, to get back on topic.

They seem to be swallowing UKIP back in whole. They pander to that vote. They don't make a positive case for immigration.

TessTube · 10/05/2017 09:27

Every election we get told Labour can't do the money. Admittedly I don't think that the current leadership are doing much to help themselves here but they are releasing a costed manifesto - it depends what's in there really.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:27

So you'd rather education was underfunded and goes down the pan?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:28

That was to anon.

People shpuld read the costings and then decide not just bang on about bankrupting country and vote for more education cuts

RoseGoldProsecco · 10/05/2017 09:29

JC has spent the same money several times over. And it's all coming from tax hikes and reverse tax cuts, which just aren't as easy to implement or as consequence free as he seems to think!

Nicemil1 · 10/05/2017 09:30

It does make me smile when people who disagree can't understand that people have actually different points of view. it's all a right wing/left wing conspiracy and people are too stupid to understand.

People just disagree.

I know Corbyn is useless and his front bench are ridiculous and they are ruining my Labour Party but others think he's the second coming. Each to own

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:32

Am prepares to believe people understand if they can say why they think he is useless.

Many can't and just go around repeating that he is shit and useless

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:33

Nicemil you have said why 10000 times so dont need to tell me again though

pavlova71 · 10/05/2017 09:33

Wilful and deliberate destruction and sale of the NHS
Increasing child poverty
Increasing social inequality
Bringing back Grammar schools
6 week benefit sanctions linked to 4000 deaths
INCREASING the financial deficit whilst continuing with austerity.
Electoral fraud on a massive scale.
And just for good measure - throw in a repeal if the fox-hunting ban! Yay!

It makes me feel sick.

SeaWitchly · 10/05/2017 09:35

NoLottery thanks for your explanation.

I personally feel it is important that wages are raised in the UK so that those in work can afford to rent/buy accomodation, eat, afford public transport etc and so am happy to vote for a rise in minimum wage and reduction in zero hours contracts [except for those who genuinely want a zero hours contract, i.e students wanting a bit of extra income not anyone trying to raise a family on a fluctuating and insecure wage].

I also agree that students being well fed improves their learning experience at school and am happy for my taxes to go towards an initiative of free school dinners.

That said, I will have a look at what you say and whether economists [left and right] believe these policies will be a poor use of tax payers money and lead to job losses / reduction in working hours for those who can least afford it.

If however it means that coorporations might be making a little less profit because they are compelled to pay their staff a living wage, well I am not sure this is a bad thing. But I will do some more research into this.

Nicemil1 · 10/05/2017 09:37

Oh sorry monkey didn't realise you were hanging on my every word.

And I and many posters have explained why but you still think he's amazing, good for you love

TessTube · 10/05/2017 09:38

I've not posted on any of these threads before but I've read a few and people have given perfectly valid examples of why they don't hold him in high esteem.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:39

I have never said he is amazing.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:41

Yes those people obviously have made informed decisions.

Many havent

You can tell me again if you want nice, i was just saving you the effort.

Women who call each other "love' in sneering manner arent really my cup of tea to talk to though.

No I would rather the country is well run so we generate the money to be able to fund our services more. Or would you rather we start competing with Greece to see how low we can go?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 10/05/2017 09:51

It isnt being well run and we arent generating any money though.

TessTube · 10/05/2017 09:53

Why do you think it's being well run now?

We are in the process of being sent off a cliff.

Nicemil1 · 10/05/2017 09:54

You think he can win though
