Why is MN so transphobic?

user1494271474 · 08/05/2017 20:36

I really don't understand it but it makes me sad. Trans people just want to get on with their lives and are at more risk of being harmed or murdered than anyone else.

OP, do you really believe in souls that are floating around waiting for a body to inhabit? Do you believe in reincarnation too?

stitchglitched · 08/05/2017 20:51

What is your definition of transphobia, OP? Because scientific fact isn't transphobic no matter how loud you shout.

HomityBabbityPie · 08/05/2017 20:51

And I'm actually not scared, I just think it's ludicrous any sane intelligent person could genuinely believe you can "feel" like a woman. You can't.

No idea why people always insist XY/penis and XX/vagina as if it's that bloody simple. Gender is a lot more complex than that..

Also that article you posted has been shot down in flames a number of times.

Annahibiscuits · 08/05/2017 20:52

I am arachnophobic. I am not transphobic

Dozer · 08/05/2017 20:53
Biscuit
Strummerville · 08/05/2017 20:53

Now everyone just seems full of anger and fear about what exactly?

You have either:

a) Not read even ONE of the many threads on the subject, or
b) "Read" them but were unable to take in any information because your outrage circuits were triggered by the unsayable truths being articulated.

Yawn.

FirstShinyRobe · 08/05/2017 20:53

Sex sex sex sex sex sex sex sex

Not gender

LadySalmakia · 08/05/2017 20:53

It's disgusting isn't it op. People need to have a whole lot more empathy and understanding.

LaurieMarlow · 08/05/2017 20:53

I agree with you OP. It's depressing.

But there's not much point in opening the debate, because the usual suspects turn up in force and shout you down until you conclude you don't have the fucking energy to argue with them.

FlossyMooToo · 08/05/2017 20:53

Mmmmm ok then OP. Very credible link there Confused

Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds · 08/05/2017 20:53

As for there being no transphobia on here ...

'I should imagine every autogynephile in the country started rubbing their hands in glee and saw self identification as something they could promote which would serve the dual purpose of benefiting them and, at the same time, be lauded for a spot of virtue signalling.'

'Being trans is one way for mental health problems to present'

'
It's "cool" to be a trans parent

Shows how progressive you are and oh so tolerant

IMO, just makes them look like a twat'

'Its maybe a mother always wanted a girl, and got a boy who likes pink... Voilá! Its a GIRL!'

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/05/2017 20:53

'Trans people...are at more risk of being harmed or murdered than anyone else.'

That's not true. There's an appalling murder rate among transwomen of colour in certain countries because large numbers work in the sex industry which is a highly dangerous way to live for women as well as transwomen. White western transwomen don't get murdered in disproportionate numbers, happily.

PerpendicularVincent · 08/05/2017 20:54

I'm really glad there's yet another thread about this.

Glad your glad. There should be more awareness around this.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 08/05/2017 20:55

I fully support the right of transwomen to go about their daily business free from harrassment and violence, their right not to be discriminated against in employment or housing, their right to dress and present however they want.

Bearing in mind that over three-quarters of transwomen choose to retain their penises however (a decision which I don't have a problem with - the surgery sounds horrific and has a very low success rate) I do not, however, think they should be taking up spaces in rape crisis centres for women, homeless shelters for women, women's prisons. Nor should they be taking part in sports where they are at a massive physiological advantage due to their male physiology. Nor do I want to be faced with a transwoman doing my cervical smear.

And there have been several excellent demolition jobs on that alleged "science teacher's" fatuous nonsense. If my child was faced with a teacher who knew so little about biology I'd be going into school to complain.

LadySalmakia · 08/05/2017 20:55

Agreed Laurie. I haven't the time to bang my head against a brick wall ask the time to I only post on the ones with positive OPs to show support now.

FlossyMooToo · 08/05/2017 20:55

Pansie not one of those comments is transphobic.
Do you even know what that word means?

HomityBabbityPie · 08/05/2017 20:56

A transphobic comment would be something like "I hate trans people and don't think they should have the right to access healthcare", not "I don't think transwomen are women".

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/05/2017 20:57

That "science teacher" article is embarrassing in its incoherent content and rambling lack of sense.

"Gender" is a socially constructed phenomenon, which differs according to culture/society. Sex is a biological reality, and like all mammals, humans have only two sexes. Before you bring it up, people who are intersex are not a third sex and the existence of intersex people is not evidence that sex is any kind of "spectrum". Otherwise they wouldn't be intersex.

user1494271474 · 08/05/2017 20:57

"Bearing in mind that over three-quarters of transwomen choose to retain their penises"

Ehh, that doesn't sound right. They would want rid of it I think given it causes them distress.

Trans girls have been known to attempt to cut their own penis off as they've been so distressed by it being there.

OP posts:
WonkoTheSane42 · 08/05/2017 20:57

If being transphobic is not believing a woman can change into a man and vice versa then I'll happily admit it.

Yes, the denial of the genuine existence of trans people is a textbook example of transphobia.

Annahibiscuits · 08/05/2017 20:58

It's not really our problem if you don't understand OP. If you WANT to understand, do some research. DO you want to understand?
