Can I have a prize for the worst dress seen so far this spring

I stood in the entrance of M&S for 5 minutes this morning just trying to imagine anyone who this would suit.
It's polyester as well so you couldn't even say it would be good in a heatwave.

Another variation of the m&s beauty. You have all bases covered with this one.

Jesus; Margo from the Good Life! That's exactly where I've seen it before Grin. But she was an obvious caricature, wasn't she?

I think we should all go in, try it on and then post pics on this thread, maybe M&S might see it and start making some normal clothes for us to buy

polyhymnia · 02/05/2017 14:09

I too saw that dress proudly displayed at the entrance to my local M and S yesterday and stood gazing at it transfixed with horror.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 02/05/2017 14:10

My mum had a flared stretchy jumpsuit that exact colour in the 70's - yes those abba things but that colour. She kept it for years. It was seriously hideous.
She did wear it though; she was a 70's teen. I will report back if I find she's bought it at all Grin. She generally dresses 30 years older than she is from M&S

Redcrayons · 02/05/2017 14:12

Am I the only one who opened the thread thinking it was something they'd bought Grin
It looks like it's 5 sizes too big for her! who'd buy dress which makes the gorgeous willowy model look like a sack of spuds.

noeffingidea · 02/05/2017 14:16

It's a hideous garment, no matter what size the model is. There is nothing nice about it whatsoever - the neckline, the colour, the sleeves.
I lived through the 70's and there was some fun fashions - halter backs, funky platform and wedge shoes, disco trousers, the whole cheesecloth
and long floaty skirts look, denim, but this dress just epitomises all the crapness of the 70's.
I think the whole of the high street fashion stores are going to take a bit of a hit this year, tbh. Only people who are really hardcore into fashion are going to buy it, not casual buyers.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/05/2017 14:18

"Christ, if you designed a dress which would flatter no body shape whatsoever I imagine that's what you'd come up with."

@KingJoffreysRestingCuntface - I used to belong to a choir that had a very similar dress as the ladies' uniform. It was full length, and a hideous turquoise instead of pink, but otherwise it was so similar - and I remember saying pretty much exactly what you have said here about it. It's easy enough to design a dress that will make some women look dreadful, but to design one that suits no-one takes real skill.

JassyJones · 02/05/2017 14:18

That is truly hideous. Can't imagine that would suit anybody, except an actual lamp base.

TheExuberant1 · 02/05/2017 14:19

Lots of floaty arm outfits about at the moment of which I won't be buying!

thetemptationofchocolate · 02/05/2017 14:21

I was intrigued so I went on the m&s site and searched for tunic dresses. The pink horror is there but just below it is something equally bad IMO.

Ginslinger · 02/05/2017 14:23

that is like something I turned out in sewing at school - I failed sewing

B1rdonawire · 02/05/2017 14:26

Ha, I thought it would be this dress! I came to a complete halt and had to swallow a snort when I saw one in real life. It is MUCH brighter pink in the real world, plus you get the crackling of static as you walk past because it's so synthetic, and as a further bonus it has a charmless cut out piece and a bow on the back. I stood and gawped for a second on my way past to buy a sandwich it was truly majestic in its awfulness. I wonder whether M&S are trying to win a 'worst dress ever' competition? It's a very strong contender.

Goldenhandshake · 02/05/2017 14:27

Jesus it even looks shit on the model. I imagine she is actually quite willowy but that creation makes her look dumpy with v. short legs.

JassyJones · 02/05/2017 14:31

And £45.00! They'd have to pay me a lot more than that to be seen wearing it.

Cantusethatname · 02/05/2017 14:31

I bet I'm M&S target market. I am mid forties, average height and size, if I wanted to spend £45 on a dress I could.
But I want natural fabrics, a flattering fit that shows I have a waist, sleeves that won't trail in my dinner, a colour (well, any colour but that pink really), a flattering neckline and not a turtle neck which would make me look like a turtle. Do they do any market research? Or do they just think opinions of women like us don't matter?
There were some other shockers in our store this morning but none quite as bad as that.

Oh god... my eyes... my eyes

tobee · 02/05/2017 14:33

Why? Why? Why would they think anyone would want to walk around looking like a blancmange? And polyester! I wonder why m&s profits figures are so bad.

Butteredparsnip1ps · 02/05/2017 14:33

Very Abigals Party Smile yes it is rather Beverley.

It's not a fashion we want back.

skinnyamericano · 02/05/2017 14:36

spookle you beat me to it, Margot sprang immediately to my mind too!

Rachel0Greep · 02/05/2017 14:37

Can't decide whether it looks worse from the front or the back.
Passed near an M&S this morning, and could see some extremely vivid yellow garments on display. I didn't venture any nearer... Grin

gunsandbanjos · 02/05/2017 14:39

You definitely win the prize, that is really dreadful!

Changesorter · 02/05/2017 14:39

Ooh I do love a good M&S bashing thread-I used to love the per una crimes ones that used to crop up on here frequently.

That dress-No just no!
