I stood in the entrance of M&S for 5 minutes this morning just trying to imagine anyone who this would suit.
It's polyester as well so you couldn't even say it would be good in a heatwave.

^^ OP,
Do I get a prize, too? Wink

(Love the fact that even the model clearly refused to be identifiable, whilst wearing such nonsense).

Mysteriouscurle · 04/05/2017 22:19

Haha OP. I saw that pink dress this weekend and thought it was awful. But then I thought it was maybe just me getting old and out of touch. You've made me feel miles better

BitOutOfPractice · 04/05/2017 22:49

I haven't seen a single smiling model on this thread. I can't blame them. They all look like they've just been told Father Christmas isn't real.

YouWouldntLetItLie · 04/05/2017 22:58

The models all look like they're being paid in clothes. From the shoot. As many as they can stuff into a Bag for Life.

This is the fashion equivalent of setting the business on fire so you can collect the insurance.

It really is. I don't know what their game is, but this is sabotage.

Corialanusburt · 05/05/2017 11:31

I think the dress is a distraction from the real problem. The true crimes are in the attached picture. You would have to pay me take home most of the piles of drabness you find in M and S.
It's very hard finding affordable and stylish clothes when you're in you mid 40s. M and S should tap into this market rather than aiming at an average age of 87.

They managed to pull it off for a bit when Autograph first started. They. We'd to look t what Reiss, White Company, All Saints, Whistles etc do and try to compete.
M and S do ranks of plain tee shirts, for example, but not one would I pick as they all have a mumsy neckline.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 11:41

I used to buy a lot from their Limited Collection section. Now it's either really mumsy or really off the wall. Never somewhere in the middle. Always one extreme or another. I used to love M&S and as a nearly 50yo interested in buying decent quality clothes that give more than a padding nod to fashion and style, you'd think I would still would love M&S. they have lost their way.

JoffreyBaratheon · 05/05/2017 11:48

Their pants are pants, too.

I used to love my M & S pants. The last pair I bought fell apart quickly. Used to last years. Now they are no better quality than anywhere else's.

Corialanusburt · 05/05/2017 12:38

What I do like about M and S is work trousers and jackets. You know you'll find a fit and they keep the cut as up to date as necessary.

Redcrayons · 05/05/2017 13:50

I popped into M&S today to get a look at the dress in real life and they don't have it! What kind of fashion wasteland am I living in?
We do however, have all the yellow clothes.

littlebrownbag · 05/05/2017 13:51

Another mid-40's woman who wants decent business-casual workwear (trousers and shirts/tops for winter, skirts and dresses for summer). For 20 years I used to be Mrs M&S dressed from top to toe, now my wardrobe is looking very warn and in need of refreshment and can't find anything vaguely suitable. (not see-through, no cold-shoulder, no ruffles, no stupid dangly sleeves, a sensible colour or pattern and not from the Classic grandma polyester and elasticated waist section.)

I watch the Great British Sewing Bee in awe of sewers because I can't even do a straight line on a machine, but I may have to go to evening classes or something because the only way I can see to get the clothes I want at the moment is to make my own. I can knit and crochet, but that doesn't cover all the bases!

megletthesecond · 05/05/2017 13:57

I could wear that pink one. if I had a social life and went to nice places.

Giddyaunt18 · 05/05/2017 14:06

I passed this the other day. I love the top half but the length seems all wrong and the colour reminds me of Mildred from George and Mildred!

FluffyBathTowel · 05/05/2017 14:06

I think I might try it on the next time I'm in M&S just to give myself a laugh.

Giddyaunt18 · 05/05/2017 14:16

I want to say "Well thank you very much Jerry!" for some reason...

Same here. I always found M&S reliable. At the moment I rush through it, (trying not to get dizzy at the garish patterns or trip over the ruffles), on my way to other shops. I cannot imagine what the buyers are thinking.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 17:27

The comment about the pants being rubbish reminds me of the Kitty sketch in Victoria Wood as seen on tv. The Marxist producer asks kitty what she thinks of Marx. Kitty replies:

Well their pants have dropped off, but you can't fault their broccoli

Am laughing at an email I received from M&S today - something like get ready for your most stylish summer yet...and of course it featured....THAT garment! I will remain unstylish of that is stylish Grin

What annoys me about the photos of that dress is that they all appear to show a slimmer sleeve, a more fitted waist and a better if still out-there shade of pink which would perhaps make the thing slightly less hideous.

But even if people were fooled by the adverts or the magazines they're going to know what it really looks like when they go to the shop or get it delivered and end up with permanent retinal scarring!

Destinysdaughter · 10/05/2017 16:10

God the stuff on here is just so hideous! I bet all those pp who were sniffy about wrap dresses and maxi dresses are looking at them with fond longing now...

ambereeree · 10/05/2017 16:50

OP i saw someone wearing that dress. I tried not to stare. It is hideous.
