To ask who is happy with the way Brexit is going?

I've started a few threads with similar titles over the months but this weekend seems to have been an outpouring of bad news so I wondered who is actually happy with how things are going

From where I'm standing

-It's looking like the government are actually as deluded as many of us feared if you believe the leaked account of this weeks meeting with the EU.
-Theresa May's election campaign is made up of staged events with staged audiences and preselected questions

  • there is no opposition to speak of

Who is happy with these continued sound bites in lieu of actual answers and policies?

waves to all the lurking Leavers who have learnt to ignore Bear

Funny how ignoring me extends to posting on my threads eh infinite Hmm

It's alarming to think Juncker et al have united various European countries in some sort of European Union in order to get the best deal for them.

MakeUpMyRoom · 01/05/2017 17:03

@bearbehind

we pay £18m a day more than we get back. Who is going to fill that gap? French are rebelling. German's won't be happy if they take up the slack. Eastern EU members can't afford to and nor can the southerners for that matter.

I don't know what makes you so sure that the French won't elect Le Pen. Out of interest, did you think Trump would win? Do you think it's right that May gets a huge majority in the GE?

JassyRadlett · 01/05/2017 17:04

As are we. Don't allow salami slicing of the issues.

Time will tell on that point, but it doesn't affect the absurdity of the 'bullying' trope.

InfiniteSheldon · 01/05/2017 17:05

Oh I'm not big enough Bear I acknowledge my failings Wink

InfiniteSheldon · 01/05/2017 17:06

Oh and I'm happy with the way it's going. ProjectFear dead in the water; A strong woman to head SS Brexit out the choppy waters it's all good as far as I can see

Bearbehind · 01/05/2017 17:09

I did think Trump would win actually.

I don't think May deserves or warrants a huge majority in the GE.

The EU might not want to manage without us but they know they need to in order to stay together and are committed to doing to from what I can see.

What do we have to offer that gives us the upper hand?

MakeUpMyRoom · 01/05/2017 17:13

Money.

Why are you so sure that L' P won't win? she did well last week.

Bearbehind · 01/05/2017 17:17

The EU can and will manage very well without our money.

On the other hand, areas which are currently heavily supported by EU funds in the UK are going to struggle aren't they?

Sterling is on its arse and we are a net importer so the 'money' argument isn't standing up very well is it?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/05/2017 17:20

What do we have to offer that gives us the upper hand?

Billions of £ which they'll probably struggle to make up elsewhere, perhaps? No doubt this is why they'd like an insane amount of money from us before even discussing what we'll get in return

They've really got to be joking ...

Waterbeads · 01/05/2017 17:28

Puzzled Do you generally not pay your bills or act in breach of your contracts?

"They've really got to be joking ..."

Puzzledandpissedoff With our current government and PM acting as real life clowns the EU really has no need to crack jokes for general amusement. Tories and May are providing all the entertainment for now.

iamavodkadrinker · 01/05/2017 17:31

The thick cunts who voted for it won't have a negative word said about the whole calamity.

InfiniteSheldon · 01/05/2017 17:41

Nice that'll open the discussion up vodkadrinker

ToastDemon · 01/05/2017 17:46

Vodka is right though. The second it goes badly it's all the nasty bullying EUs fault according to the deluded idiots who think that this is somehow in any way, shape or form anything other than a complete clusterfuck.

InfiniteSheldon · 01/05/2017 17:50

Bear this is why Leavers don't even try to answer you any more "thick cunts" "deluded idiots" indeed

PinguForPresident · 01/05/2017 17:51

David Allen Green on Twitter is very good for actual analysis of Brexit. He's neutral on the Brexit/Remain thing himself (decared so before the vote) but provides very good law/policy commentary on it.

His commentary shows May/Davis woefully underprepared and very much on the back foot.

Bearbehind · 01/05/2017 17:52

Potter off then infinite

You've added nothing but a few personal insults aimed at me as per usual so go elsewhere if you dont want to contribute to the discussion.

The uk is about one thing and one thing only to the eu and that is money! Hence their opening gambits are 60 billion euros and we must treat eu nationals like citizen's. Can see us just walking away in 2 years time and go to wto rules ( which will also bring in more revenue to the exchequer from eu countries)

MarciaBlaine · 01/05/2017 18:02

The UKs position looks like a huge joke from EU side. Only wish I could find it remotely funny.

Yabbadabbo2 · 01/05/2017 18:04

Sterling "on its arse" has been lower vs the euro whilst we've been in the EU but never a let a good fact get in the way.

Yabbadabbo2 · 01/05/2017 18:06

If you were to get divorced and your spouse said give me lots of money first then I'll discuss what you might be able to have. Would that be reasonable? Certainly would not be in my book id tell said spouse to go forth and multiply!

Bearbehind · 01/05/2017 18:07

yabba, harping back to what happened before is a bit pointless isn't it.

Sterling plummeted against the Euro and the dollar as a direct result of Brexit.

We are net importers so what we buy is now costing us more.

What 'facts' are getting in the way there?

OFFS it's not properly started yet!!!!!

Well, yea, easy to hide under the pillow and hope it will all go away.

FFS!

Renaissance2017 · 01/05/2017 18:15

Ok, I voted remain however I'm not sure we are on the back foot. Juncker has taken the whole Brexit vote as a personal insult, so I wouldn't take his word as a bell weather of the way things are going.

What is interesting is the French election. Even Macron is now running on the EU having to make massive changes. However, we know that the EU hasn't been accommodating with regards to changing.

The result last week was seen by Brussels as dodging a bullet. I think if they ignore the 45% in France who are anti EU, then they could be in real trouble.

Yabbadabbo2 · 01/05/2017 18:15

No history is very important and currencies fluctuate based on a number of reasons as sterling and the euro have done. Sterling was overvalued based on economic fundamentals (excess importing vs exporting) and got the correction it needed almost overnight now we need to tap into the global market which the blinkered remainers want us to ignore in favour of the EU which swerves from economic disaster to economic disaster.
