To think it's rude to asking how much it costs?

I've had cosmetic surgery and it's something very noticeable. I'm very open with it but I'm sick of the first question being - how much did it cost??

People are either plain nosy and want something to gossip about, or they are considering having the same procedure themselves and wondering if they could afford it. But you certainly don't have to tell them and it is rude of them to ask! I suppose I might say "gosh that must have set you back a bit" about an amazing new purchase - are they explicitly saying "how much did it cost?"

I think if you want to discuss your plastic surgery, which is of course private to you, people will move on from the actual surgery to the next thing which is the cost. Yes, its rude because asking how much something cost is. Just tell them that's for you to know and them to wonder.

I female colleague told me she had had a nose job paid for by her dentist husband. It was an astonishingly good job. She had quite a long nose, but he had not altered the length so much but removed the bump and it really suited her face. After she told me, I could not stop staring at it. And yes that is very rude.

I knew twins who had boob jobs. They were very tall and slim and took out loans to get them done. I suppose it would be odd if one remained flat chested when the other was large breasted. Over thinking there.

I think it's rude to ask the cost. I would not ask but I'd be curious. I think it's because it's quite hard to find out how much these things cost.

You're right not to tell them and I think it's unkind of people to use it to judge. They have no idea what value you place on feeling good.
