What's your most shameful crappy meal for the DC?

Sometimes I don't want to think about what to make for dinner, I make pasta with nothing but olive oil and a bit of salt on top and then I scatter chorizo on it.

The kids love it and think it's a treat. 'Grin

Today (I'm in Oz and it's night here) I made them that but served them with corn on the cob too as a side vegetable.

What are your crappy, easy go-to meals for kids?

Jam sandwiches and crisps. Did someone say they MADE linguine before the kids came home for a quick meal ??????

RomanticWalksToTheFridge · 26/04/2017 12:15

TheDevil my mother used to make me a white bread, butter and brown sugar sandwich. At least she used butter - HER mother used to use beef dripping and sugar [shudder].

sailorcherries · 26/04/2017 12:16

I try to balance out our meals but last night DS had a small frozen pizza and half a packet of Bachelors macaroni cheese. I had the other half and a cheese sandwich.

I'm pregnant, have been throwing up for days and I fell asleep on the couch. I was not arguing with him.

Aside from frozen pizza and packets of macaroni our other lazy meals include soup and a sandwich/toastie/bread, frozen nuggets, cheese and beans on a baked potato or toast, noodles or a takeaway.

We do make a nice fruit smoothie each day though, which I feel makes up for it.

He tends to have one a week of the above, possibly two depending on schedules and how I'm coping.
I'd rather he eat something than nothing.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 12:17

Does anyone ever make a sugar sandwich?

Yes, my DM used to make these for me when I was little. Love them.¨
Either with butter and a little bit of sugar sprinkled on top.

And sometimes she would melt the butter, stir in the sugar and then drizzly it overt the bread (more of a Sunday thing). It's delicious...!

differentnamesameshit · 26/04/2017 12:18

This was to try to teach them a lesson :

Micro chips
Value spagetti
dinosaur shapes

They cried

Xmasbaby11 · 26/04/2017 12:18

Pasta with peas, chopped up ham and grated cheese. Dd always says it's the best meal ever!

RedBeanie · 26/04/2017 12:19

Maggi 3-min noodles with a side of cheese and sweetcorn

MusicToMyEars800 · 26/04/2017 12:19

pizza and garlic bread, it's my complete cheat meal only take 12-14 mins in the oven, sometimes I put a punnet of cherry tomatoes on the table for good measure as they love them Grin

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 12:19

Btw, when we were in Italy with our nonna nonna used to make sugar sandwiches with... Idk what the EnNglish word is. But it's animal fat (I mean, an animal fat that isn't sugar....)

It's actually really tasty as well... I wonder if one can still buy it.

Angelicinnocent · 26/04/2017 12:20

Dish of baked beans with grated cheese on top with bread and butter to dunk in it.

justwait · 26/04/2017 12:22

Omg this thread is making me so hungry

Highmaintenancefemalestuff · 26/04/2017 12:22

My ds lives on turkey dinosaurs, beans and sausage on toast, chicken pie. I'm not embarrassed or ashamed as he won't eat anything else, if I left a plate of something else in front of him he wouldn't eat. He has more than his 5 a day in fruit and breakfast juice throughout the day.

Dd, on the other hand will eat absolutely anything!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/04/2017 12:22

FeedTheShark dripping? lard?

LookMoreCloselier · 26/04/2017 12:23

Beans and cheese on toast
Fish fingers, oven chips, peas
Chicken goujons, waffles, beans
Mac and cheese
Hot dogs

And for me, pot noodle with a pork pie (and I dip the pie in)

user1491572121 · 26/04/2017 12:23

OP here....I really didn't (as someone said) come on to "show off"

Pasta and chorizo IS crappy! White pasta...which is nutritionally empty and chorizo which is processed fatty meat. It's not healthy at all!

Inertia · 26/04/2017 12:23

Dominos pizza . Don't even need to leave the house then.

PicardsCombOver · 26/04/2017 12:23

Tinned ravioli on toast. I found some in a bolognaise sauce rather than just tomato and it was lovely. I tried the fresh and it had no taste at all.

Juanbablo · 26/04/2017 12:23

Hot dogs. But I do serve with carrot and cucumber sticks to make me feel less guilty.

SoupDragon · 26/04/2017 12:24

Pasta with slices of lightly smoked sausage and a drizzle of tomato sauce.

Which is absolutely not pasta with sliced frankfurters and ketchup.

likewhatevs · 26/04/2017 12:25

Everyone in our house loves fish finger sarnies. I serve them in lightly toasted paninis (from LIDL - yum) with ketchup AND mayo. And I put some green leafy stuff on the side which no-one except me eats. Then I instagram a photo so everyone knows we're having posh fish finger sandwiches because I'm sad that way. Then everyone I know comments on how nice fish fingers sarnies are and has to have them themselves for tea :) Then there are lots of other comments about how nice beans on toast is. And cheese on toast for that matter. Then it becomes like a little mn thread all in itself :)

HearTheThunderRoar · 26/04/2017 12:26

When DD was younger it was:

  • instant noodles and maybe some broccoli if I was feeling especially fancy.
  • sausages and mash
  • beans on toast
  • Fish and chips / fast food

Now she's a teenager it's progressed to:

  • pasta and sauce
  • bought sushi
  • soup and cheese on toast.
user1491572121 · 26/04/2017 12:26

I wish I had some fishfingers in LikeWhatevs I love a fish finger sandwhich.

Which is far more nutritious as you describe it than my pasta and chorizo!

OP posts:
flownthecoopkiwi · 26/04/2017 12:27

DD brought a friend home that had never had a fish finger sandwich... shocking!

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 12:27

LARD is the English word I was looking for.

Whenever our grandmother used to bake certain foods (translating that in Engish.. No idea, but it's baked stuff) she also used to make us lard and sugar (or lard and syrup or whatever) sandwiches.

So tasty. Can I still buy lard in the UK?

cleanlaundry · 26/04/2017 12:27

Is it bad that all these meals are normal everyday meals for me? 🙈🙈
