What's your most shameful crappy meal for the DC?

Sometimes I don't want to think about what to make for dinner, I make pasta with nothing but olive oil and a bit of salt on top and then I scatter chorizo on it.

The kids love it and think it's a treat. 'Grin

Today (I'm in Oz and it's night here) I made them that but served them with corn on the cob too as a side vegetable.

What are your crappy, easy go-to meals for kids?

Why would someone NEVER allow a trip to Greggs if the kids weren't at school?

Should kids be taught about a varied diet, and as other poster have said that there is no "bad" food.

There's quick food that you might not want to eat all the time, but Jesus Christ some of the stuff on this thread is scary.

Pasta and pesto and people are ashamed, supernoodles, nuggets and chips, McDonalds? All fine as part of a balanced diet where kids are taught nothing is off limits but that moderation and a bit of everything is key.

Kids who are taught Greggs is bad must surely wonder why there is at least one in every town and are probably the ones who when given a bit of cash and freedom turn into right bloaters on a first of previously banned fizzy drink and fast food

DS (2.5) is so fussy that most of our meals are shite right now. I am so thankful he's in nursery 3 days where he actually gets fed decent food. I rejoiced when he finally liked pizza as that's the easiest meal in the world....I bought turkey dinosaurs in Tesco the other day and DH was horrified! I also have an 8 week old DD with horrendous colic so my standards have been 'checked' recently....

Thanks panda

Looking forward to seeing how this is written up in tomorrow's Fail.

Mumsnetters reveal their go-to emergency kid's meals - including POT NOODLES!

^Revealed! How Mumsnetters feed their children in a hurry. Warning - some of their ideas may SHOCK you!"

Happyhippy45 · 26/04/2017 11:35

Jazzed up instant noodles (peas, corn, leftover cooked meat.)

Some form of ready made breaded chicken with beans and potato wedges.

Curry/chili from the freezer with a slice or two of store bought bread because I cba making rice.

None are particularly shameful or nasty.....just a bit lazy and a bit too processed for my liking.

DH and DS prefer these meals over ones I've slaved over.

RomanticWalksToTheFridge · 26/04/2017 11:35

DS adores pasta with a bit of butter on it.I console myself by thinking of my (actual Real Life Italian) room mate while at Uni years ago who often had pasta with butter and fresh mint. She claimed it was a traditional dish from Ravenna where she was from.

I also LOVE instant noodles, but I do put in sliced mange tout, tenderstem broccoli and swirl a beaten egg through the soup bit. DS will eat it on days he eats nothing else.

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 26/04/2017 11:36

All these Blush faces are hilarious.

Are you genuinely embarassed or ashamed? Pesto and pasta is standard food, no?

Heatherbell1978 · 26/04/2017 11:36

In fact, I'm using this thread for meal ideas....Blush

justwait · 26/04/2017 11:37

Lol at the embarrassed faces at perfectly normal food.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 11:37

Pasta with chorizo and corn on the cob seems like a pretty nice meal.

My go-to meal when I don't have time to cook is whole grain spaghettis with grated cheese and ready made pesto (red and green pesto to choose from...) with a simple green salad, where people can make the sauce in their own plate (there's some lemon quartes, olive oil etc on the table...). Yes, I'm sometimes too lazy to make a simple salad sauce...

carolinescustard · 26/04/2017 11:37

The sachet from the pot noodle!

arethereanyleftatall · 26/04/2017 11:38

Sweets

summerlovinggirl · 26/04/2017 11:39

Pasta, tinned tuna and mayo. Quick and little effort required!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/04/2017 11:39

Zaphod, that sounds lovely ! 😄

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 11:40

Baked potatoes with easy (ready made) fillings is also a lazy food in our house. Dh and I both make this quite often. It just requires potatoes and some smoked fish, cheese, pesto, tuna/corn/mayo or left-over bolognese etc...

It's such an easy left-over/whatsever in our fridge meal....

TheFlyingFauxPas · 26/04/2017 11:41

Ds' favourite meal - tinned hotdogs and instant noodles. It can be ready in about 6 minutes. So I'm a hero even if I'm feeling crap and can't be arsed he thinks it's better than a dinner I've slaved over for hours.

flownthecoopkiwi · 26/04/2017 11:41

Hot dogs those Hertz (?) Ones with brioche buns. We, I mean they, love them. Ooh with Ikea mustard...

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 26/04/2017 11:41

When I'm feeling REALLY lazy I cook up a quick slow-cooked minced steak chilli, bake a quick loaf of hand-kneaded olive bread and just chuck it all on the table with a crisp salad and freshly-made lemon-oil dressing.

Oh god, can't believe I just admitted that Blush

Faffandahalf · 26/04/2017 11:42

Oh puh-leeze.
This thread OP is the ultimate example of smug smuggy middle class shit you often find here.

Fucking pasta olive oil chorizo and corn on the cob is a shameful meal?

OP as previous posters have said you just want to feel smug and superior and boast about a perfectly NORMAL meal.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 11:42

Oh nope. Just remembered my crappiest meal.

I served my family (after DD was born), potatoes, ketchup, grated cheese and corn and tuna from a tin... I think I also put some mayo on the table... Maybe?

Ethylred · 26/04/2017 11:43

MacDonald's. Smells like sewage.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/04/2017 11:43

Tinned soup with bread and butter. Shameful because he's only 2yo and there's probably a year's worth of salt intake in there, but he loves any and all soup and thinks dipping bread is the best thing ever Blush

Whatsername17 · 26/04/2017 11:45

Pasta, tuna mayo and cheese or fish fingers and oven chips are my cba meals.

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2017 11:45

Frozen pizza.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/04/2017 11:45

Oh Christ yes, just remembered what I fed him a few days ago... noodles (egg, not instant, yay!) with peas and sweetcorn and, to make me feel more virtuous, protein in the form of frozen hot dog sausages. He picked out the sausages and ate the noodles and veg.
