What's your most shameful crappy meal for the DC?

Sometimes I don't want to think about what to make for dinner, I make pasta with nothing but olive oil and a bit of salt on top and then I scatter chorizo on it.

The kids love it and think it's a treat. 'Grin

Today (I'm in Oz and it's night here) I made them that but served them with corn on the cob too as a side vegetable.

What are your crappy, easy go-to meals for kids?

I microwave a packet of Doritos, topped with grated cheddar. But I do sprinkle with chopped garlic as some sort of nod to their nutritional well being!

Talith · 27/04/2017 19:56

My mum once made a big tin of tomato soup watered down go four ways. That was very lazy. Not a money issue.

SherbrookeFosterer · 27/04/2017 19:57

Surely sugar sandwiches are exclusively for midnight feasts when they can't sleep?

They get a sugar rush and then konk out pretty much straight after - never fails!

NatureIsAWhore · 27/04/2017 20:01

Supernoodles!

toomuchprosecco · 27/04/2017 20:02

rice and gravy. sometimes with some grilled chicken

uwilk · 27/04/2017 20:12

Peanut butter pasta. With frozen peas for the deluxe version.

Dolly80 · 27/04/2017 20:16

Nutella on toast
'Butter toast' the name given by my daughter to toast with butter!
TUC crackers with crisps (so much nutritionally valueless beige Grin)
A plate of prawn crackers

I'm not proud of any of these but not ashamed either. Sometimes children eat rubbish and as parents, we let them

Alidoll · 27/04/2017 20:24

Cheesy pasta. DD absolutely loves it though and I will cut up some cucumber to stir through (she draws the line if I add tuna or tomato though).

ginger1976 · 27/04/2017 20:55

Plain pasta with garlic bread DD has this regularly

pumucklsmissus · 27/04/2017 21:30

Spaghetti, butter, Maggi and grated cheddar Grin I think it's similar to the marmite pasta

Boredmum93 · 27/04/2017 21:36

Supernoodles best thing ever for them lazy days DS loves them more than proppa meals, no arguing(bribes) for him to eat his dinner. Winner winner no chicken dinner he says hahahahaha.

wtffgs · 27/04/2017 21:41

Only on mumsnet would pasta and chorizo be considered a shameful and crappy meal. And with corn on the cob too. OP needs reporting to the nutrition police

GrinGrinGrin

Beans from the pound shop and cheese on toast.

XsaraHale · 27/04/2017 21:46

Chocolate hobnob topped with Philadelphia and a bit of chocolate sauce...it's a cheesecake...I guess...well, it's a quick dessert hehe

GruffaloPants · 27/04/2017 22:08

This thread is making me hungry for lots of lovely crap food.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/04/2017 22:29

Supermarket own tinned spaghetti hoops with those mini sausages, grated cheese on top served on buttered toast. DD loved it when unwell (although once I gave it her and she spewed an hour later, imagine the scene!!!).

Back in the 70's my DM served us tinned meatballs and tinned new potatoes.

UpsyDaisy123 · 27/04/2017 22:33

'Naughty noodles'

(Those Golden Wonder ones you get in a packet with a little sachet of powdered flavoring whic you sprinkle on top after adding boiling water)

Booboo66 · 27/04/2017 22:54

I also LOVE instant noodles, but I do put in sliced mange tout, tenderstem broccoli and swirl a beaten egg through the soup bit. DS will eat it on days he eats nothing else.
Grin

Booboo66 · 27/04/2017 23:01

For us its pitta bread.. The most versatile food on earth! Spread some tomatoe puree on it, top with grated cheese and you have a pizza in no time , have with humous and some veg sticks, fill with leftover roast dinner or curry or some breaded crap from the freezer! Always a meal in minutes (and you can make it less crap by using wholemeal)

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 27/04/2017 23:04

My most shameful dinner was when I made beetroot tulles, parsnip crisps, roasted sea bass as the main event, red wine jus and soda bread served separately with butter from my daddy's farm.

My post is at least as likely as the OP's.

dramaticpenguin · 27/04/2017 23:10

Microwave admirals fish pie! My kids love it ... God knows how much salt is in those things- I choose not to look!

user1484603141 · 27/04/2017 23:26

So my cba meals
Eggs bread sprinkled with some thing nice.
My mums mock crab, don't ask about the name, haven't a clue, Greater cheese mixed with chopped tomatoes and onions.
My really cba meal is minestrone soups, I buy the chopped veggies and put then in a pot to boil with a tin of tomatoes and a oxo. If you put it in a big enough pan it lasts a couple of days.

Shockers · 28/04/2017 00:44

Mine are now late teens and we've always tried to maintain a healthy diet.

But there was a bi-monthly tradition established when they were about 4 & 5. Saturday 'Junk tea' is chicken goujons, croquette potatoes and tinned sweetcorn. The two former items must be purchased in Sainsbury's.

It's not often they ask for it now, but when they do it makes me smile.

Lionking1981 · 28/04/2017 00:56

Mr brains faggots usually with frozen mash. We love them. Way, way too much.

7Coffees · 28/04/2017 06:39

I can't believe people are acting so (reversed) snobbish about ops post. It's not like chorizo is posh or something...it's like salami!

BeyondThePage · 28/04/2017 07:20

But seasoned pasta, olive oil and chorizo - or even salami - served with veg - is not a "shameful" meal - and it DOES sound "posh" compared to tinned spaghetti and hot-dogs.
