What's your most shameful crappy meal for the DC?

Sometimes I don't want to think about what to make for dinner, I make pasta with nothing but olive oil and a bit of salt on top and then I scatter chorizo on it.

The kids love it and think it's a treat. 'Grin

Today (I'm in Oz and it's night here) I made them that but served them with corn on the cob too as a side vegetable.

What are your crappy, easy go-to meals for kids?

OP posts:

Tesco own brand (no others will do) BBQ coated peanuts and full fat milk.

Horribly addictive!

But not like 'peanut cereal' That would be TOO gross. You drink the milk...

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2017 11:45

Mind you having said that, I'm not ashamed of it.

It's just frozen pizza, not a line of coke.

arethereanyleftatall · 26/04/2017 11:46

Quite often my crap meals turn in to perfectly acceptable ones.
E.g. Last night I couldn't be arsed so was doing toast. Whilst it was toasting I rummaged around in fridge and found tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, peppers, carrots, spinach. Added a handful of walnuts. A glass of milk. And hey presto, a fabulous meal covering all groups in 3 minutes. Probably better for them than the lasagne id spent an hour making the day before.

Floofborksnootandboop · 26/04/2017 11:47

Other than things like McDonald's it would probably be just plain salted pasta, maybe with some grated cheese if they were lucky! I don't know how it started but they all loved it so I wasn't to bothered that it was a rather crap dinner Grin

Faffandahalf · 26/04/2017 11:48

Most of these meals are not 'shameful'
Fish fingers and chips. Normal. Not every day but it's just fricking real fish in a breadcrumbs and potatoes.

Leftover chicken with mash and veg. Fucking normal and good food

Frozen Pizza. Normal! Not every day but bread base with sauce and veg on it?

Pasta and pesto?? What do bloody Italians eat then?

jackef potatoes?Confused normal food!

Honestly this is just ridiculous.

RockyBird · 26/04/2017 11:49

Chicken soup by Heinz
Asda smart price noodles
Beans on toast
Cheesy pasta
Pesto pasta

YoungYolandaYorgensen39 · 26/04/2017 11:50

No shame at all:

Tomato sauce/brown sauce on sliced white bread/toast (my go to when I was a kid and it was still half a week until 'big shop' day)
Cream crackers and Bovril
Cream crackers and jam
Yorkshire pudding and gravy
Chips and gravy
Potato waffles and spaghetti hoops
'Pizza' (any bread with any kind of tomato based topping, cheese and a bit of whatever is knocking around in the fridge, eg forlorn bit of ham, lonely mushroom)
Instant mash and butter
Tinned sweet corn and butter
Tinned ravioli and cheese
20p noodles
Meat paste sarnies
Cereal

I love cheap crap processed food, but thankfully I have a choice not to eat it all the time, unlike many.

Tonight we eat like kings: veg box delivery day and I bought proper nice sausages!

RomanticWalksToTheFridge · 26/04/2017 11:55

I don't think the meals people are describing are 'crappy' but are the can't be arsed meals, which is more or less what the OP was talking about. That is what mine are ....but I am never all that pleased when I am serving pasta and butter, although sometimes it is the only thing I can get down the child.

Not 'middleclass' smugness, more 'this is what I do when the day is going awry or I'm fed up'

Personally I am getting ideas from the thread also!

Jackiebrambles · 26/04/2017 11:58

This thread is making me so hungry. Tinned ravioli on toast mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

EssentialHummus · 26/04/2017 11:58

I'm pregnant with odd food aversions and currently living off Essential Waitrose tinned veggie soup. My other fave is a homemade "pizza" comprising slice of white bread, ketchup, cheese, sliced toms and some ham bunged in the oven for 15 minutes. Tastes great.

CuppaSarah · 26/04/2017 12:00

frozen beige stuff are what all my easy crap dinners are. I fucking love birdseye beige

AudTheDeepMinded · 26/04/2017 12:00

I thought it was just me that did the instant noodles, hot dog and peas/sweetcorn combo. They bloody love it and it's on the table in under ten minutes.

Eldest son went through phase of refusing bread, that was tricky. Used to eat a lot of those cheese biscuit things (very salty). Also very hard to get protein into him then, found he liked those awful processed chicken bite thingies. Eats most things now, phew.

Cineraria · 26/04/2017 12:01

A little snap pot of microwaved baked beans to eat with a spoon like a yogurt accompanied by Ritz crackers.

Defrosted unlabelled contents of any small round plastic pot or foil package in the freezer.

Jackiebrambles · 26/04/2017 12:04

What brand of instant noodles are you using? I'm an instant noodle virgin! Do you get flavoured ones? I'm thinking my kids might love noodles.

user1493035447 · 26/04/2017 12:07

Fray bentos steak and ale pie, eaten out of the tin Blush

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 26/04/2017 12:07

When my dad was little, his grandfather used to make him a salt sandwich - just because they both loved them. Sometimes they'd have lettuce in there too, but only because again they loved it, no nod to trying to pretend it was healthy in those days!

Does anyone ever make a sugar sandwich?

SaucyJack · 26/04/2017 12:08

Crispy pancakes, chips and beans.

I bought some for a laugh so that the kids could see how awful food was back in the days before they invented taste and nutrition.

They LOVED them.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 26/04/2017 12:10

Curry super noodles, with a fried egg on top of we're feeling fancy Smile

Chamonix1 · 26/04/2017 12:10

Haribo.

RomanticWalksToTheFridge · 26/04/2017 12:12

Jackie my fave instant noodle brand is the Aldi chicken flavour. I have tried other branded sorts, but definitely prefer the Aldi.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/04/2017 12:12

fish finger sandwich

DeleteOrDecay · 26/04/2017 12:13

Fish fingers in a wrap with ketchup and a side of peas or sweetcorn.

LagunaBubbles · 26/04/2017 12:13

I used to love the minced beef crispy pancakes Saucy Jack! I saw them in Asda and thought I would try them again....dont remember the coating being so dry and hard and tasteless! Grin

Blimey01 · 26/04/2017 12:14

I don't think that meal sounds crappy at all OP! I might make that tonight.....

ILookedintheWater · 26/04/2017 12:14

My go-to if I'm shattered is a frozen pizza as there is no effort whatsoever.
My go-to when time is short is beans or spaghetti on toast (2.5 minutes).
My go to when DD stressed/hungry is pasta: any sort will do but just basil oil and grated cheese is the easiest option.
My go-to when DH knows I'm feeling horrid and wants to help: delivered something with chips (what a nice fella).
