To not get the Tom Hardy obsession?

I'm 37 so maybe this is why I just don't get the obsession every female seems to have with Tom Hardy.
He just looks like an ordinary guy to me but the amount of Facebook memes and posts my female friends post about him and I don't get it. What am I missing?

He's okay, not a bad looking fella but I don't get the obsession about him either. I love the memes about him though, quite funny.
I don't get Ryan Gosling though. He reminds me of a chicken. But I don't fancy most male sex symbols that women generally swoon over. Especially the American ones. They are kinda too clean cut and sugary.

YABU.

That is all.

judychicago · 26/04/2017 12:11

Tom Hardy is a good actor and a nice looking man but I don't quite get all the hype myself. I don't get the hype about a lot of actors or celebrities even if they are attractive or talented or seem nice when interviewed it doesn't mean they are that nice and many of them aren't that healthy emotionally at least in my experiance in dealing with them on set although I have no experiance with Tom Hardy and no longer work in film or tv so am unlikely to get the chance now.

Sometimes the nicest ones are the ones you would least expect e.g. Ethan Hawke gets press as being a massive tool but he was probably the most normal, decent actor I ever worked with but I still didn't fancy him but he was a breath of fresh air!

squoosh · 26/04/2017 12:11

He's on some ad at the moment and his voice sounds strange.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/04/2017 12:11

Wondering where all these people who think he is ordainary looking live. I think he's very pretty. But I like that dark, smouldering, young Brando thing.

ZilphasHatpin · 26/04/2017 12:12

Yes of course YABU. No discussion necessary. Grin

squoosh · 26/04/2017 12:12

Physically I suspect him of being a short arse. And he has womanly lips.

So it's a no from me Thomas.

If you like seeing him half naked I'd suggesting watching Warrior, although it's about mma fighters so may not be everyones cup of tea.

This is my favourite film ever. Makes me cry every time! Blush

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2017 12:19

I don't get it either but he's a million times better than Cumberbatch which I don't get at all.

ZilphasHatpin · 26/04/2017 12:19

He is 5'9". No giant but I'm 5'2" so perfect for me Grin

I don't get him either. What is it that people like about him?

SumThucker · 26/04/2017 12:21

Have you watched Sherlock Jane? I didn't get the Cumberbatch love either until I watched him in that, I think he's beautiful now.

squoosh · 26/04/2017 12:22

Oh yeah Cumberbatch is a puzzler too! Sexual attraction is a wonderfully diverse thing isn't it?

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2017 12:22

I haven't seen it Sum but I can't imagine it would change my mind Smile

TootsyBella84 · 26/04/2017 12:23

This was me before! I didn't get it at all. And then I watched taboo and now I would like to be his wife 😂

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2017 12:28

I saw him in Wuthering Heights and he wasn't my idea of Heathcliff.

squoosh · 26/04/2017 12:28

An actor I suddenly started fancying is Chris Pine. I thought he was just an identikit B List pretty boy and then I saw him in Hell or High Water where he played a Texan bank robber.......and my oh my, so super sexy.

Although that may have been an incidence of Aragorn Syndrome (def. where an actor has one role and one role only where he is an utter sex God e.g Aragorn bloke in LOTR.)

To not get the Tom Hardy obsession?
Owlish · 26/04/2017 12:28

Had to Google him; I don't watch many films or TV much. Nope, he's very ordinary-looking, nothing special. Might be different if I'd seen him on the screen.

glitterglitters · 26/04/2017 12:30

There's certainly something about him. Covered in tattoos, his bottom teeth are gnarly... but I like it Grin not changing for Hollywood. He's a sucker for animals. And that grunt!? Tbh he reminds me a little of my dh (him with a hint of hugh jackman).

I've also had a bit of a "thing" for fallen angels/recovered lives and have an ex that has almost the exact same recovery from drugs story. I think I find people like that kind of motivating and inspirational. Plus love a brooder.

There was a film where he just driveshaft car for two hours, with a Welsh accent and talks about concrete on a mobile. I shit you not. It's brilliant. ConfusedGrin

thecatsarecrazy · 26/04/2017 12:30

Yanbu those lips. Uggh

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2017 12:31

Oh yeah squoosh loved him in Star Trek - so cocky Grin

glitterglitters · 26/04/2017 12:31

@squoosh Russell Crowe has that thing in gladiator. He's eewwww in everything else despite some being some of my favourite films!

judychicago · 26/04/2017 12:33

Do you think it is genuine sexual attraction though i.e. if Tom Hardy came out to fix your boiler or Cumberbatch was your estate agent do you think you would feel the same about any of them?

I suspect a lot of it is about exposure and status to some extent e.g. there have been threads on here about people fancying George Osborne in the past (boak).

However while not getting the celebrity attracton I do quite fancy my electrician, will need to find some else electrical not quite working so I can get him round again :)

sailorcherries · 26/04/2017 12:35

Zilphas I love Warrior but OH hates it. It's my guilty pleasure when he's working nights or weekends.

I also have a thing for Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa.
