My children are adventurous and unless something is dangerous or unsafe for themselves or others, I don't see the problem. Increasingly I find myself being scowled at by other parents whose DC want to copy mine as if I should stop mine to help them out. I've had passive agressive comments, too. As far as I'm concerned, it's up to them to enforce their rules on their children - not me.

Some examples to give you an idea of the contexts of these situations:

Splashing in puddles
Climbing trees
Standing up on the swing
Climbing the slide (as long as no one else is waiting to go down)
Painting their hands and feet at toddler group
Rolling down hills

AIBU to continue to let my children do what I'm fine with them doing and ignore disapproving outsiders who expect me to stop them so their children won't do the same?

Only thing I'd say is climbing up the slide is not on if shoes are muddy or wet. Apart from that ignore them!

Climbing up the slide is not on IMO - they could easily get knocked if someone comes down without checking.

I find it hard to believe that anyone has queried splashing in puddles It's harder to find a child that doesn't do that. So I don't think that is accurate or that your children have masses more freedom than anyone else, tbh.

Climbing on the slide takes away it's slippiness. It really bugs me.

We have a blanket no-slide climbing policy because it makes a complete mess of the slide if it's muddy but more importantly it's so dangerous. My kids get to the top of the slide and, like most kids, don't look. If they then crash into your child climbing up it then you'd probably be upset, which is unreasonable because a slide is a one-way street.

The rest of it has no effect on any of my children so crack on.

I get internally out of proportion pissed off at slide climbers.

Climbing up the slide - I tell mine it's fine unless they have muddy shoes or there is someone who looks like they might be wanting to come down. Then not allowed. Good for teaching them to judge situations for themselves!

You should never climb up the slide if there's anyone else anywhere near the top.

You should never slide down the slide without checking the way is clear.

Both rules apply.

They're usually barefoot to enable better slide climbing so mud isn't a problem. They're only allowed to do it if no one is even on the steps, so no chance of collisions.

Do you really let your children stand on swings and run up slides no wonder parents are pissed off at you especially the slide climbing that used to really annoy me shen my kids were at playpark age,

Why would you be pissed off at someone climbing the slide when nobody was wanting to come down it?

Rolling down hills! I loved that wild feeling. Mine now way too cool for that.

Totally agree YANBU. It drives me mad too and yes I've.had parents scowl at me for similar.

Bil lost his front teeth when he face planted while climbing up a metal slide so that is a big no no from us.

Also find it puts other kids off using the slide - so whilst someone may not be queuing it is probably because they don't feel they can.

Standing on swing - not if muddy feet

Climbing trees - depends on the tree - a beautiful local one on our park is fenced off but has been damaged by people climbing on it

Splashing in puddles - not if splashing passer bys!

Common theme being - as long as you aren't being inconsiderate do what you like! Are you sure the looks aren't noise related?

It's all about context isn't it?

I don't think anyone cares about those things unless:

• Their DC is climbing up the ladder of the slide
• your DC is hugging their friends whilst they have painted hands
• puddle splashing is done next to a small baby who is crawling on the grass

Etc etc etc

Because either the kids had shoes on and shoes off cause it to be sticky slides are for sliding not climbing thems the rules

Apart from slide climbing its all pretty normally allowed here.

I do feel uncomfortable when my 2yo is halfway up a climbing net and a child of similar age or older is being told no, that's not safe for you.

It makes me worry I'm being careless but you've got to judge each child's abilities differently - plus I was probably like that with DC1. DC2 wants to follow her big brother everywhere.

Fwiw op the rest is normal kid behaviour and you are right it isn't up to you to stop other kids splashing in puddles just not walking on slides
