To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

The OP's point has been proven by LouKout

Nuff said.

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:33

Very mature user.

Abraiid2 · 22/04/2017 19:35

The lefties who are worried that the term is being used perjoratively-- bless their hearts, the rough and tough of a general election will be just howwible for them. But don't worry, they can carry on calling right-wingers cu.ts.

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:36

Ok we are all heinous but its fine for you to sneer and act like a dick. Ok then.

JustAKitten · 22/04/2017 19:37

User that's an offensive opinion.

VeryPunny · 22/04/2017 19:37

YANBU, OP. There's another thread on here where a poster is looking for somewhere to move to. One of the criteria is that it shouldn't be a Tory area. It's far from the first location thread where no Tories has been specified.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 19:37

OK user , leftie is a fairly well known insult.

And I have spouted no venom. Some have form both sides on this thread. I'm not sure I have spotted a similar insult to 'leftie' being thrown around (other than a generalised conversation as to whether 'Tory' was sued as an insult in some circles, a conversation which was amicable)

I'll leave you to spout your venom. I am not assuming that this is because you are a Tory. I am assuming it is simply because you are quite unpleasant.

ExplodedCloud · 22/04/2017 19:38

Presumably the poking back into the sea image was from the Med, not Calais though?

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 19:39

And abraid, I have never used that word in my life, thanks.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 19:41

OP did you intend for this to get so nasty?

Was this what you wanted? To 'restore the balance'?

I am sorry , but some of these recent posts are nasty. obviously because I am a leftie I find them howwible

saturdaysaturday · 22/04/2017 19:42

Not RTFT.

I couldn't agree more. I once got called a Tory bastard at work (I hadn't actually disclosed my political leanings), I was young and burst into tears!

I wouldn't dream of saying anything personal to another, even if I disagreed with their point of view.

user1471545174 · 22/04/2017 19:43

YANBU, OP.

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2017 19:46

A right of centre facebook follower of theirs said 'if someone was genuinely desperate, they would stay in the first place of refuge they arrived at,' and he made a comment implying that many are not genuine refugees, and then he said the vast majority of the people trying to get in are single, young males.

And that is a pretty offensive opinion.

Leaving aside the first point, which is an opinion on how people should behave (although he is right that most asylum seekers stop when it's safe) it's true.

Even the Vice President of the European Commission has said 60% of them have no plausible claim to refugee status:

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/01/heres-a-fine-example-of-the-trouble-our-continent-is-descending-into/

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/six-out-of-10-migrants-to-europe-come-for-economic-reasons-and-are-not-refugees-eu-vice-president-a6836306.html%3Famp

And 68% were male and most of them were young:

ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php/File:Share_of_male_(non-EU)_first_time_asylum_applicants_in_the_EU-28_Member_States,_by_age_group,2016(%25)_YB17.png

And therein lies the problem with the left. If something is true but inconvenient to them they label it and the speaker offensive. Which carries the threat of Twitter mobs and forum bans so people become scared of stating facts. Which of course is the intention because if you can't change inconvenient truths then you must try and suppress them.

mirime · 22/04/2017 19:49

Some of what they have done is not great (bedroom tax, pulling folk off disability benefits, benefit cap, stopping tax credits/child benefit at two children, tripling uni fees...,) But I think there was a good reason for everything they did; they were just too harsh, and went about things the wrong way.

Are they showing any signs of recognising that they went about things the wrong way? Are they making any attempt to put these things right?

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2017 19:50

So what. Theyre fleeing war fgs.

Not necessarily true. The same EC VP said most of them were from safe North African countries like Morocco and Algeria.

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:53

I will agree to differ with you billsykesdog because i find the tone of pretty much every post you ever make excessively aggressive and unpleasant and have no desire to interact with you

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:54

I think the right wingers here are doing a sterling job of ahowing they can be pretty damn nasty too. So YABU OP.

HelenaDove · 22/04/2017 19:55

Ive seen very nasty goady posts about tenants from a right wing poster who is posting on this thread agreeing with the OP.

WankingMonkey · 22/04/2017 19:55

OK I am a 'leftie' but I do kind of agree with this

A right of centre facebook follower of theirs said 'if someone was genuinely desperate, they would stay in the first place of refuge they arrived at,' and he made a comment implying that many are not genuine refugees, and then he said the vast majority of the people trying to get in are single, young males.

I don't understand the argument that people are fleeing for their lives, but pass through safe countries to get here. And yes, it usually is young males.

I also agree that we should be taking in refugees (more than we have too...)from the camps we set up, rather than letting in those who arrive at the border.

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2017 19:58

lou, you are single handedly proving the OP right. The only person who has got personal on this thread is you, and potentially Helena, although at least she's having the decent not to point fingers directly.

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2017 19:58

*decency

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:59

Right ok whatever

Livelovebehappy · 22/04/2017 19:59

The difference between a Tory and someone on the far side of left is that a Tory will fight their corner by indicating why they vote as they do, and what policies they agree with and why. Someone on the left will fight their corner, not by discussing or defending their own party's policies, but just tend to resort to personal insults against aforementioned Tory voter; thick, no empathy, racist, bigot etc etc etc. They preach against intolerance, but the irony is there is no-one less tolerant than someone on the left.

TheFirstMrsDV · 22/04/2017 19:59

What a silly thread.
Of course there are unpleasant lefties.
Of course there are unpleasant right wingers.

Utterly ridiculous to start a thread saying its one sided and then declare 'I rest my case' if people don't agree with you, because not agreeing with you is proof that lefties are horrible.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 22/04/2017 20:01

This is why I refuse to discuss any kind of politics on facebook, I just sit back on the sofa with popcorn and watch the show. The vicious carry on during Brexit was horrendous. unfriending, insults etc etc. I won't get involved, nobody knows what my politics are and they don't need to either.
