Urghhhh. This quote seems to have reared its ugly head again (in my life at least, twice on fb and once on IG) .

Clearly Ms. Moss has never eaten a millionaires shortbread from the M&S café...

I worked with a stupid cow who used to say this all the time. I would sit eating chocolate and she would tell me how many calories it had and how I couldn't eat for the rest of the day because i had wasted calories on chocolate. She was as miserable as her attitude.

Well i'm prepared to stick my head above the parapet and say i agree with her! To agree with the sentiment doesn't mean you're always automatically skinny though.

(My weight fluctuates quite a bit over the years, between babies, life's ups and downs ect)

However, for me nothing does taste as good as the feeling of being my ideal weight feels. I love it when i'm slim. The weight just creeps on again so damn easy!

Replace 'skinny' with 'not being overweight' and it is largely true for me. I have lost weight recently and have gone from being a stone overweight to being a stone under the top 'ok' weight. And it feels fantastic. I honestly feel so much better. And that feeling is not (often) going to be matched by a doughnut or a bag of kettle chips or a tray of millionaires' shortbread.
So, whilst I wouldn't post that on my FB or whatever, I do totally get the sentiment.

I fist read this quote in a book by India Knight about low carb dieting. There were a load of quotes in Idiot proof Diet book to 'inspire' the reader to keep going.

Isn't cocaine supposed to suppress your appetite?

I think it hit a nerve as I'd been hiding in the understands cupboard and snarfed a whole lindy bunny.

'Skinny' is a silly word to use but I actually do think being slim is more enjoyable than any particular food. I'm not much of a foodie though - if someone prefers to carry a bit of weight because food is a big part of their life, that's an equally valid decision.

I agree about feeling better when I'm at my ideal weight. I'm only a few pounds over at the moment.
I think my main objection is that she is held up as an example, with that quote tagged on.

As some others said, I kind of agree that nothing I could possibly eat gives me quite the same pleasure than being slim and looking great in anything, as opposed to using clothes for damage limitation to hide my fat rolls.

The trouble is though that it's not comparable, is it. It's not like you can not eat one nice thing and therefore enjoy being slim. There are many, many nice things that taste bloody amazing that you should not eat to enjoy the feeling of being slim. And it kind of adds up..

YABU! I lost over three stone 15 years ago and have kept it off exactly for that reason. No food is worth being overweight for.

'Ideal weight' and 'not overweight' are not the same as 'skinny', though.

I much prefer (I think Liz Hurley's) 'I want a small bottom more than I want that cake'. It is more a motivational thought rather than a smug slogan that isn't even true.

ive been underweight and skinny and ive been fat and being skinny was so much bloody effort and joyless. LOADS of things taste better than that feels, even if i wouldnt mind losing a few more kilos if i could be arsed.

Our weight and the gaining/loosing of it is such a personal thing. Everyone has their different triggers and mind sets which can help (or hinder) us. What works for one person might just irritate the hell out of the other. (hence OPs hit nerve Flowers)

For me though i actively keep the ''being slim feels better than how that [insert food] tastes'' in my head when i'm dieting and it helps me.
